  1. For those of you wanting rain, feel free to pop over! Hot drinks and towels will be provided. A number of heavy, albeit short, downpours during the day. My weather station has just reported "ITS RAINING CATS N DOGS" Maximum temperature here today 18C at 11:38. Currently 14C Humidity: 88% Wind: SSW 12mph, average over two minutes 8.5 and over 10 minutes 7.0 mph Pressure: 1009.7hPa falling slowly There has been 10.0mm of rain today, with a max rain rate of 62.6 at 13:16. Weather highlight of the day - our dog has just gone to the door, took one look at the latest downpour, turned around and put himself into his bed. Yay! - must admit, I didn't fancy a walk in the dark, rain and mud.
  2. Woken at 6am by noise of high wind. Max temperature today: 18C at 16:25. Currently 13C Humidity now 74% Wind has now calmed to 6mph, average over 2 minutes = 5.6 and over 10 minutes = 5.3mph Pressure: 1016.5hPa rising rapidly 3.6mm of rain has fallen today. Max rain rate of 5.06 at 08:48 Weather highlight(s) of the day - Dodged heavy shower for morning dog walk. Big drop in temperature reminded me to book chimney sweep's annual visit!
  3. Expect you will be proved again correct BB! Felt exceptionally warm on this evening’s dog walk. Today’s max temperature here was 25C at 16:37, currently 19C which is rather nice for this stage of September. Humidity is 79%. Wind SSW at 2 mph, average over 2 minutes 2.2 and 2.6 mph over 10 minutes. Pressure 1014.3hPa, rising slowly. Off to Norwich tomorrow for the weekend, wonder if there will be an improvement on this month’s local torpid wind effort in that fine city? Weather highlight of the day, erm it fell on a Friday. Which means that, now I’ve finished work and done my weather update, it’s given me wine time Rather like our benevolent and generous weather
  4. Big fat bright moon rising over the house tonight after another amazing very warm and sunny day. Pity August wasn't more like the last couple of days... Max temperature here today was 23C at 15:12. currently 14C Humidity: currently 84% Wind: what little there was dithered between SW, WSW, W, WNW and NW - currently 0pmh and has been for a couple of hours - clearing decided to work to rule today before voting to walk out. Pressure: 1018.2hPa steady No rain in last 24 hours. Highlight of today; clear sky, warm sun all day, a crisp evening with the delicious smell of a bonfire as I walked my darling dog to the village hall to vote for the new Neighbourhood Plan (he's a very democratically minded youngster)
  5. Good evening after a beautiful sunny day for the Autumn Equinox. Today's max temperature here was 21C at 15:30. Currently 14C Humidity currently 81% Wind: SW 3 mph, average speed over two minutes 3.4. Over 10 minutes 3.6 mph. Yay, we have a break from the evening zero readings since 5th September - so the anemometer is working! Pressure: 1023.2 falling slowly 0.2mm of rain fell at 05:30 which is the only rainfall registered in the last week. Highlight of the day; the pre-dawn stunning bright, fat moon hanging over our back garden, then en-route to working from another site, the drive soon after sunrise with an autumnal mist softening the outlines of sunlit woodland and outline of Barton Hills. Beautiful start to my favourite season.
  6. After the cool start it got to a max of 22C at 14:40, was aware it was sunny but didn't get a break to go out to feel the warmth unfortunately. Currently 13C Humidity currently 84% Wind: West at 0mph, average over two minutes...0.0 again. Pressure: 1030.1 steady Highlight of the day... it certainly looked nice out there!
  7. Thought it felt cold on this morning's dog walk, checked on return and found it was 8C here at 06:30. Felt very autumnal. Sun's out now and a glorious morning
  8. No sun at all today, although felt pleasant between the 6am and recent evening dog walks. which did both require a light jacket (and a torch! ). Today's max recorded here was 21C at 14:37. Currently 14C Humidity currently 86% Wind: ESE 0 mph. Average over 2 minutes... another 0.0mph Pressure: 1026.6hPa slowly rising Highlight of the day; watching @Norfolk Sheep live feed from Cumbre Vieja This on-going evening pattern of zero wind is puzzling as MetO app says 4mph for this area. Photo of weather station attached showing there has been light wind today - any ideas anyone? Could it be the shelter from the neighbouring trees and dense brambleberry hedgerow circa 6 foot high that's affecting the reading? Grateful for the experts' comments thanks
  9. Thank you @Weather-history for the articles and have had more memories of that winter very clearly triggered. I recall my father being concerned about the 1978 storms with Portland being cut off and Chiswell badly affected as he had family living there at the time (he’s a Portland man, born and bred as he puts it). It was the cold, as well as the snow, that I particularly remember about that winter, hot water bottles all sold out and going to bed with as many warm clothes on as possible.
  10. Nothing, nada, not a drop. On the plus side all the gardening and lawn mowing rushed through yesterday has resulted in more time to experiment with new recipes. Max temperature today 19C at 14:57 currently 16C Humidity: 85% Wind: NW 0mph average over last 2 minutes 0.0 and over 10 minutes 0.0mph - weather station serviced yesterday so I am tentatively beginning to trust the evening drop to 0pmh over the last week. Pressure: 1015.8hPa rising slowly Highlight of the day - eating outside again this evening and then going down to the bottom half of the garden to drink a cup of tea in the late sun and watch the sun set.
  11. After a clear night and morning it got warm very quickly today, weather station recorded maximum of 25C at 14:46. Current temp is 19C Some cloud build up from 4ish this afternoon with a much appreciated light breeze but again cleared for a lovely evening. Humidity: Currently 70% Wind: has shifted to a NNE direction and 0mph. Average speed over 2 minutes = 0.2mph following a similar pattern for more than a week now. Pressure: 1013.2hPa holding steady Highlight of the day - got a lot of gardening done and warm enough to sit outside in short sleeves to eat again this evening. Forecast for tomorrow looks miserable - although, despite the deluge the other day, the garden could do with some - just some mind; not the entirety of the forecast thank you very much.
  12. Max temperature recorded by weather station 21C at 13:55. Currently 15C. Humidity: 81% Wind: SSW 0mph average over 2 minutes 0.0 and over 10 minutes 0.0 again... Pressure: 1013.4 steady Not long back from walking my dog across the fields in pitch black. It feels exceptionally warm and slightly humid out there, almost a Mediterranean feel. Today's highlight was being out in the sun and realising what a lovely very warm day it was; possibly something to do with wearing hard hat, heavy steel toe boots and far too heavy hi viz jacket while on construction site for one of the big new health facilities that I'm delivery lead for - a business as usual day, not a redeployment day to a front line jabbing for England day. I like construction sites, far more more than vaccination sites. Wine time now. Night all
  13. Some intermittent cloud this morning gave way to a gloriously sunny day. Apparently. 5 MST video meetings and 2 long telephone meetings reduced ability to look up and out of the window... Max temp 22C at 16:08 Currently 15C at 22:50 Humidity now 86% Wind: SSW 0mph. 2 min average = 0mph Pressure: 1016.4hPa rising slowly Today's highlight - have just logged off work computer and now off to my bed
  14. A more pleasant day today with a welcome return of sun. Max temperature 21C at 15:37 up from a low of 14C at 06:00. Currently 14C at 21:35 Humidity: 89% Wind: SW 0mps Average over 2 minutes: )mph Pressure: 1016.2hPa rising slowly Highlight of the day was pottering in the garden early evening before sunset, deadheading flowers with my dog and cat nearby quietly sunning themselves and being nice to each other. Relaxing and therapeutic after the madness of another day in the life of the NHS.
  15. Heard weather forecast on Radio 4 just before 6pm referring to some parts of East Anglia receiving 60mm of rain today. Am very surprised looking at the Cambridge totals that my weather station only recorded 19.4mm today because it rained from just after 7am for most of the day, varying from shocking Amazonian torrential (by which I mean my experience of the daily afternoon deluges in the rain forest near Manaus) to heavy constant rain, via downright pishing it down. Worked from home today in my east facing office and confess to putting on fluffy bedsocks to support the very smart top half outfit (the best part of MS Teams meetings ) and increasing radiator setting to 22.5C - it was freezing being surgically attached to the computer without moving for hours. Max temperature today: 18C at 16:05 up from a low of 13.6C at 06:00. Currently 16C. Humidity 93% Wind currently NNW 2mph with 2 min average speeds of 2.4mph. Pressure 1011.6hPa rising slowly. Today's highlight... not having to water the vegetable and flower beds Edit: Seem to have earned 15 new badges including a '15 years in' which apparently is deemed Rare - could this be reference to a prison sentence that I've forgotten about I wonder? Whatever, 15 badges means it's more fun in here nowadays than being in the Girl Guides. Haven't had to once break a sweat, put up a tent in the dark, cook up a nifty meal for entire camp via one filthy frying pan, or rescue someone when the fire gets out of control.
  16. Today's max temp recorded as 21C at 13:34. Currently 15C at 21:12 Humidity now 78% Wind ENE 2mph average 2 minute speed 1.5mph Pressure: 1016.3hPa steady Able to eat supper outside again this evening which was very pleasant. Highly unlikely with tomorrow's forecast from 07:00 for light rain, heavy rain, yellow warning of rain rain, reducing to light rain by 20:00. More than in the garden methinks
  17. Evening all Anyone? Missing the sunshine. A quite dreary day of heavy showers and the Kiltie thread’s Permagloom down for another Southern softie visit - someone should explain its not August any longer.. Max temperature here today a surprising 24C at 14:58 Currently 19C. Humidity 83% Wind SSW 5mph. Average over 2 minutes 5.7mph Pressure 1007.9 hPa rising slowly
  18. Thankfully for my dog’s sanity it’s quiet and rumble free here. Today’s max temp according to my weather station was 29C at 13:50. Currently 20C at 22:25. Humidity 71% Wind from east at 0mph, with 2 minute average of…0.0 having again dropped from a decent breeze to zero in the space of a couple of minutes- pattern all week. Pressure 1009.2hPa and steady Hope those in the thundery areas further south manage to get a decent night’s sleep.
  19. My weather station is claiming a max 30C at 15:11 today. Currently 21C with 58% humidity as I type. Today’s pleasant breeze dropped here just after 8pm, just as it did yesterday evening. Wind now from East with average 2 minute wind speed of…..0.4 mph. Pressure 1018.6 hPa steady. A short evening walk with my dog before the wind died away was very pleasant. Watering the vegetable and flower beds in the zero breeze, less fresh, darkness felt far less so. The high point of today was the ability to ignore the guilt at stepping away my NHS work for a record busting 20 minutes to go outside and sit in the sun with a cup of tea - yay! Am so pale from lack of daylight since Covid hit us hard at work last year (and hasn’t eased up) that it looks as though I have resident vampires using me to assuage their nocturnal obsessive eating disorders
  20. Warmer than MetO forecast for my area today. Weather station recorded: high of 29C at 16:42 Current wind E at 0mph having earlier been a more comfortable SE with 8mph humidity 84% pressure: 1023.0 rising slowly no rain in last 24 hours Bedrooms currently unbearable
  21. Late afternoon yesterday stopped me in my tracks when the sun appeared. Brother and SIL (staying over for my dear Daddy’s 99th birthday celebrations at our house today) were most surprised to see us rush outside like excited children seeing the first winter snowfall. They live on the Hampshire south coast and clearly haven’t been as sun deprived - is this a quaint village sun dance they asked…
  22. They’ve gone offline; lost power for a bit and trying to reboot servers. They got a message that a rig had come loose, thought it might be one of Shell’s but were trying to verify it before making a formal announcement. I haven’t found any confirmation myself so hoping it wasn’t a statement of fact they received. Very interesting and informative chat - one of their few remaining live cameras was monitoring the floodgate at Golden Meadow; unnerving to see the storm surge at just over 12 feet and still rising as they went off-line, with only a few feet left before over topping occurs.
  23. HTV 10 Livestream WWW.HTV10.TV HTV 10 Livestream These two laid back guys have gone to an ad break while they check out a report that one of the rigs has cut loose in the gulf
  24. Reason for edit: causeway link showing terrible driving conditions didn’t work. Causeway will be closed at 11am.
