  1. The sun came out at 5:30pm!!! ? prompting my young dog to voluntarily go outside for a sniff around. Mind you I wasn’t in Boggy Bedfordshire. It’s still dark, chilly and threatening rain there. Vile.
  2. Good morning. Happy to report it hasn’t rained yet today! Grey and damp but not raining, although heavy showers, possibly thundery, forecast. Current Temp: 6C West 6mph Pressure: 1004 Humidity: 98% Visibility: Can see the bottom fence for the first time this week!
  3. @Wimbledon88 He’s not daft....he buried himself under the mattress, as a protest to being told he’s going for his 06:45 walk ? He’d gone out to the garden earlier for a wee and promptly got soaked, so knew what to expect. It looked so funny I had to take the photo.
  4. Am desperate for next week’s warmth and sun. Here we’ve had the 4th consecutive day of monsoon downpours, accompanied by fog - how can that be? Last week it drizzled most days, accompanied by occasional heavy rain. I can’t remember when the sun last appeared and my 13 month old big puppy buried himself yesterday morning and today even refused to come out of his sleeping crate. We both want to hide away from this cold, wet and depressing awfulness! I’ve had to drag him out for the past week to walk around the thick mud of our local fields. In the rain. nb: the black bit is him under his day bed mattress.
  5. Nope I meant 5cm or 2 inches in old money. I went out and checked the amount on the back lawn. It would have been a lot more if only the flakes had been larger than a pin head....
  6. About 5cm here after a day of almost non stop snow. This is top half of back garden, the wiggly snake is my young dog’s meander to find a suitable spot for a wee. I’m off to bed after lamp post duty all evening instead of taking the chilled out option...
  7. Snowing heavily here for the last three hours but small flakes creating less than impressive accumulation. Pity as while out walking my dog around 5pm over in Royston (hills around the golf course) fluffy flakes dropped an inch in just over an hour.
  8. Thought you might like to see what some wags did in the centre of George Square, Glasgow last night. Am missing their sense of humour even more than the snowy winter they’ve had this year.
  9. It’s been snowing here since before 07:00 here and still going. Unfortunately the flakes are too small to prevent wind from whipping them off somewhere but at times the flakes have been bigger and we’ve had.......wait for it...1cm on top of yesterday’s meagre offering. In five hours, I ask you! ? My son, however, living in central Norwich had 9 inches of snow by yesterday lunchtime and couldn’t get out of his road. He was lent a Range Rover this morning and managed to get out of the city so will be working today. The drift in first photo looks like it should be in Scotland but it is either A140 or another road heading south; his destination is Stoke Holy Cross. Last photo is the incredible drifting along my side path..?
  10. Stay warm, stay safe, stay indoors. Best of luck in what sounds like dreadful conditions
  11. It’s an avalanche barrier. You see them on maps in the Alps
  12. Haha no. I found Nessie loitering yesterday off the coast of East Anglia and sent her back to you - no doubt buried in the eleventy billion pages of my old regional thread. I think her sense of direction is as bad as mine...? I SO wish I was back in Scotland!!!
  13. Ridiculously irresponsible of your niece’s boss. I hope she gets home safely. My son stays in central Norwich, they’ve had over 9 inches of snow with a new amber warning for the next few hours but his boss told the staff via WhatsApp this morning they had to get to work (restaurant situated in a village south east of the city). He’s very experienced driving in snow, having lived in French Alps for a few skiing seasons, but got 100metres along main road and got stuck and that’s in the sheltered city centre. Companies should put safety first. Stay safe everyone - I hope you all get home ok.
  14. Haha I thought they wouldn’t show despite you being expected to walk through blizzards. Seriously, can you get to the GP for your required documentation? My other half is a GP and has been on his knees with exhaustion since Christmas because of the number of patients/call outs etc. But he rang this morning to say there were 17 appointments still not taken and the place is practically deserted ? Maybe everyone is too busy taking photos of the half inch of snow to feel ill?
  15. Even when the police in Suffolk are advising people not to travel? I’m so sorry you’re under this much pressure when half the staff probably won’t be there today.
  16. My son sent this an hour ago. He’s in central Norwich. His work, south east of Norwich and in a village, has said they are expecting everyone in today! ? No snow in Melbourn, near Royston, and daughter caught her train to London with much disgust. Less than an inch - or 2.5cm to you youngsters - where I am. Although snowing heavily atm ??
  17. Found Nessie lurking off the East Anglia coast and sent her home to you ?
  18. I’ve learned a lot from you Knocker and also hope this thread will become permanent. Thank you for the professional way you present your regular posts and for the time and effort that must go into producing all this information - I notice you always seem to be up to greet the 0z outputs and have often wondered if you can survive on very little sleep.
  19. No! Don’t do that please. I’ve learned a lot from you this winter and am relying on your continued informative posts - you can come and stay here! Got spare bedrooms and while there may not be a lot more weather excitement, it will be better than the south coast. ?
  20. COME ON the boys in blue! Stay calm. This is more tense than waiting to see if GFS insists on bringing in mild air this week ? Will be homeless if ??????? win..
  21. ‘It’s crashed!’ I squeaked. ‘What am I going to do all evening now?’ I cried. ‘It had just better get fixed before the 18Z comes out, that’s all I can say’ I threatened with blood pressure rising. Response: “Does that mean I’ll actually be allowed to speak to you this evening? *cheeky sod*
  22. And pop in to make sure they are warm enough and have enough food. Meals on Wheels, if they can deliver are often late in adverse weather conditions. Older adults are frightened to go out in icy conditions in case they fall and break something so often stay indoors alone. Isolation and loneliness is a health hazard as much as physical problems. Sorry mods, I probably shouldn’t have put this here.
  23. Gosh these outputs have given me pause for thought. Anyone else struck at how small, vulnerable and defenceless Britain and Ireland look with these huge Siberian Snow Devils advancing upon us? (I’m not ashamed to admit I’m beginning to feel some trepidation and unease if any of these deliver all those kinky snow lines). Oh and if the models do deliver such awesome/phenomenal/Just Wow/ (take your pick/delete as applicable) snowfest chaos and there are the inevitable power cuts, no-one will be able to come in here and obsess about how quickly the GFS brings in the mild. We’ll have to actually go outside in it. Hmm, have you thought about that ? ?
  24. There's a skull face over the UK in the above run. Probably apt if this verified...
