  1. With such model uncertainty until the SSW outcomes begin to emerge I’m tempted to prescribe anti anxiety medication, therapy sessions and finally, circa mid next week, a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic such as Zopiclone to aid desperately needed sleep, after each and every model run is pounced on, forensically scrutinised, over analysed and discussed in minute detail during the next three to five days. Should the nw server crash in the meantime, meltdown referrals for inpatient care will go through the roof.... Now, do I self prescribe or forceably limit myself to a once a day model watching-only brief?
  2. Steady snow here, small flakes but steady. How do I know this? Not, unfortunately, by any sensible lampposting - my (1yr today birthday boy ??) lab took one look out the back door, noted the cold and refused to go out. Dressing gown and slippers to accompany him eventually persuaded the wee wee. And I got to see the snow in the torchlight ? God...
  3. They are real in my village (south east of Bedford) or they were, seems to have stopped now.
  4. See mine above Daniel. Light snow started circa 06:40 resulting in a very light cover on cars, roofs etc. Air is dry so no frost and flakes are tiny, albeit pretty. It has now virtually stopped but am under an unexpected yellow warning for snow and ice during the day and wasn’t expecting anything until tonight. Not anticipating more than light flurries, which is just as well considering the state of the A1 at the moment!
  5. Good morning! Here is the non travelling forecast.... Boring Bedfordshire 0 feeling -4, expected 0 imminently. NNE 6, gusting 14. Visibility poor due to (very) light snow, expected good. Inevitable “oh look it’s snowing!!!!” pile up on A1 has duly happened, taking an hour to travel through Junction 8 to 7 southbound...?
  6. Couple of hours snow, heavy at times, resulting in this pile up... actually it was still only a smidge over grass, furniture and conservatory roof. Can’t upload photos again ? getting the same error message I got a few months ago that Paul said had been fixed. Anyone else getting it? A -200 problem uploading error.
  7. Pressure rising, now 991 from 989 an hour ago and getting some interval between gusts. Hopefully we’ve seen the worst of it now *she says crossing fingers*
  8. Crazy wind woke me at 04:00. Clear skies at that time and could see my trees thrashing around but now cloud has blacked out garden and can’t see what the massive thud was just now. Too scared to go out and check. Accepting I face west, with open land beyond the garden and to some degree more exposed than most of the village, these are still the strongest winds experienced since moving down from Scotland in 2012. No idea what it’s gusting at but sounds like a plane engine prior to take off!
  9. Clear skies, windy and feeling bitterly cold. Local roads slippery even with winter tyres. Temp: currently 3C feels like -3 Wind: west 20 gusting 34 Pressure: 1002 steady Humidity: 74% Visibility: Good
  10. Aw bless her. It’s lovely for children to have enough to build a snowman nowadays. And great to see all your photos with such a large geographical spread, reminds me of 2010 and the fun of walking five miles home from office in Barrhead. Am delighted so many (excepting those within @Hawesy bulb effect ?) are under the showers. Expect tonight’s more organised snow will be awesome. Hope everyone gets some. Oh and it’s top news headline down here, even pushing the awful Carillion debacle into second place. Lots more photos please!
  11. Temp: 8C feels like 3 Wind: SSW 20 gusting 37 Pressure: 997, falling Visibility: Good (if able to see through heavy rain...)
  12. Squall is driving the rain into my bedroom window with such force it sounds as though bullets are hitting it. Some powerful gusts livening up this normally silent little spot. Alarm goes at 05:15 and I’m hoping for a quieter night than this!
  13. A miserable day here with heavy squally showers. Temp 9C but with wind it feels like 5C. Notice the MetO has reduced wind gusts for my area to a max of 46mph overnight and tomorrow morning.
  14. 0C here and snowing heavily. My MetO app showing heavy snow until this afternoon then light until 10pm. We shall see but not looking forward to the long drive I have to do later. Got winter tyres (legacy of living in Scotland) but not many others have around here.
  15. I lived in Canada for some years when I was a teenager/young adult and the winters there were amazing. Although I spent the first winter permanently terrified when driving, even with studded snow tyres. I did get used to it, with the exception of the roads through the mountains between Vancouver and Kelowna, which were hair raising. I was also living in Scotland during the memorable winters of 2009/10 and 2010/11 so I can't help wishing for snow. Bad Mummy
  16. Oh I'm torn. Between wanting snow this weekend, as any normal nw member would or being a good Mother who ought to not want any snow as my son is moving house Saturday and driving from tiny village near Milton Keynes to Teddington in a van, then back Saturday evening, overnighting at his cottage (with the steepest drive in middle England) again driving back to London Sunday afternoon, having thoroughly cleaned it. Decisions, decisions!
  17. Hoping my Scottish friends stay safe and don't experience any damage tomorrow, although if 90mph gusts do hit... If you're all still standing enjoy the snow over the next few days; you'll deserve it after tomorrow. Photos please so I can vicariously relive the winters when I lived in Scotland (models aren't being kind to my snow shielded boring bit of Englandshire). I'll be thinking of you, although bitterly regretting the name of this storm. This rubbish has been going around my head since I heard its name. Am trying to purge myself by passing it on - share the suffering and all that... (promise I'll never do this again!) Damn Caroline Where it began, I can't begin to knowing But GFS knew it's growing strong Was in Model Mania FI becoming real Who'd have believed you'd come along! Hands, touching hands Reaching out, anchoring me, anchoring you Damn Caroline Bad times never seemed so bad GFS was inclined To believe they never would For the Scots Look at the night and it don't seem so lonely Its filled with flying trampolines And when I hurt How to explain that concept How? when blown to Norway One, touching God Flying sheds, flying mee, flying youuu Damn Caroline Good times never seemed so bad Model ranters inclined To believe they never would As not IMBY Damn Caroline Bad times never seemed so baw Damn Caroline Southern Softies wished it could Oh Caroline
  18. Currently 3C, feels like -2 in bitter NW wind 14/gusting 25 Pressure 1009 Humidity 84% Visibility very good Am trying to pluck up courage to walk the dog over the shelterless flat open farmland now. Or wait until it warms up to the expected high of 5C.
  19. Morning the Sane Scots! Is this the one you were after? And be kind, the nice Weather Ward inmates are quite correct, the country (meaning south of the border country) will grind to a halt with a mere dusting, let alone proper snow. So they aren’t delusional in that respect. The expectations of it happening however...... God, I’ll be deported for this
