  1. I've read news reports that authorities in Antigua and Barbuda turned electricity off at midnight their time. If that happened those cams showed that moment but nothing further except those loops. Which indicates what we've been watching was hours before Irma's eye went over the island. How much worse did conditions get I wonder? Poor people.
  2. The very first bit appears to be Barbuda. Then prep footage in various area and back to the poor chap trying to stand up and present what's going on.
  3. He's still there, being well and truly thrashed. He looks like my hair on a bad day.. Edit: Hector not Trump, unfortunately.
  4. Both webcams keep losing their streaming. Difficult to see how they will keep going for much longer. Really concerned for those on Barbuda, or what is left of it.
  5. My son, who lives in Italy, CASTELNOVO di Isola Vicentina, took this photo on Saturday evening during an intense thunderstorm. Apologies for delay but I though it worth posting.
  6. Hope it manages to land at Birmingham. The Virgin flight is still on his trail. Oops, just read that Snow_Joke. Presumably London is calmer than Birmingham?
  7. Don't think 17 made it down? It appears to have gone past and done another tight turn. Wonder if VIR873P, which was following it in, will make it down..? Snow_Joke do you have a subscription to watch them land?
  8. Really glad I'm not trying to land at Manchester today - that would have had me making all sorts of deals with God, the angels and even my stroppy sister. Notice UAE17 has been around in tight circles several times now. I feel for those on board!
  9. The only thing that'll make me feel better for being in the central belt a sodding week too early is to sit in front of my wood burner pretending I'm back up there, while hoping the garden trees,in this normally weather dead zone, survive the mild *spit* wind. Please, please post eleventy billion photos to help mitigate my poor timing and facilitate this unhealthy fixation with being back in snowy Scotland. Thank you so much! Really hope you all have the amounts you want, especially Catch!
  10. This probably made a bit of noise as it went over - hope none of you need to cross the Forth Road bridge imminently. Have a lot of driving tomorrow and must be the only nw member not praying for the southern snow. Hence hiding in here to vicariously enjoy yours
  11. I hope you left straight after you posted. Take care.
  12. Yes, yes you should! Think of it as community service, or weather famine relief. Text 666 and donate Dirty Gerty and Hoolie Henry's unholy offspring to those of us in desperate need. Now living down south and working in the centre of weatherless Welwyn Garden City I have to vicariously live in Scotland via my obsessive daily forays in here. The paper, as newspapers often are *chokes slightly* was entirely correct. It has been windy here today. I went to Sainsburys at lunchtime and my hair got blown around. Seriously, the twit that wrote and ran the headline quoted the expected mean wind speed; there have been consistent gusts of 39mph and probably higher; enough anyway to turn my umbrella inside out 4 times in a 200 yard dash from office to shop. I found myself thinking, as I nearly poked out the eye of a traffic warden, that if this was Weatherless Welwyn, imagine the carnage Henry is going to create for my NW friends in Scotland this evening and hoping you'd all be alright - Mistyqueen's roof wouldn't end up in Edinburgh and Scotland would still be stuck on top of England come the morning. Then I read this.......time to share that sympathy! ** Hope you all stay safe.
  13. Take care, stay safe and I sincerely hope you get through today without damage. Woke up in the night thinking about Misty and hoping her house will survive this one. From your reports it sounds dangerous to be on the roads everywhere at the moment - hope you all get safely back home to enjoy lamp post duty tonight!
  14. Really feel bad for you in the flooded areas. Hope you are all safe; it must be devasting to have that lot flowing into your homes and businesses.
  15. Favourite chore! Photos please of your log pile. With snow; after the 9pm watershed, obviously.
  16. Morning all - hope you are all well. Happy 2015 to everyone! Having spent a great Hogmanay in my old area and due to visit again in February, I regularly read this, the most friendly and informative regional thread on n-w and am delighted to read of snow reports in my old stomping ground. Hoping it will stay cold and with snow during 9th to 16 Feb. Just to avoid the confusion : It is my understanding the Met Office has a partnership agreement with Health to issue cold warnings so health authorities can plan services which are particularly impacted by cold weather, e.g. for older and vulnerable adults, pressure on A&E with fractures from ice and other cold related serious health issues etc. I don't know why NHS Scotland hasn't got a reciprocal arrangement with the Met Office because, although I work in the NHS in England, NHS Scotland operates independently and is a separate organisation so I have no idea why they haven't set up a similar warning system for the country. In this case the Met Office (maybe they get funding to offer this service?) isn't being biased, although it is easy to assume this is the case if people aren't aware of why these cold alerts were set up. Perhaps a regular in the kilty thread, who works in NHS Scotland, or knows someone who does, might know why they haven't set up a similar arrangement with the Met Office? I'd be interested to know why, given the more extreme weather the country gets which must have a significant health and well-being impact on older/vulnerable people? (Am saying 'must' have as a question - silly really as I know it does; because that was my patient cohort group when I had responsibility across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire). Plus all the extra demand on health for all age groups, as well as social care providers....I did try to find out at the time but didn't ever get an answer - probably wasn't high enough up the food chain at the time. Right, that's the sensible bit over with, let's get back to the much more amusing hypotheses... Reason for edit: spilling mistake. And I saw reports of lying snow in Killie (nearest weather station) whoo hoo!
  17. What a great thread, thank you! I shall read this with interest. I have family in the north of Italy and they are all concerned at the lack of snow.
  18. Beautiful photo PM. Feel I could simply walk into it...
  19. Evening all. After quite a long break away from here I'd like to report...em, nothing much today really. Misty, muggy morning. Dank and dreary all day. Evil black sky on the way back from work. Heavy and steady rain for an hour or two. Now returned full circle to misty, muggy...
  20. Good morning all. 2oC this morning. A wee scrape needed on the windscreen but the air is wonderfully dry compared to yesterday and consequently feeling less cold. A beautiful morning. Cloudless sky when I drove to work although a fair bit of it seems to be drifting over WGC as I type. Did I dream it was snowing yesterday.....? Roll on the warmer weather for the weekend. Have a nice day y'all.
  21. Edit above post: Apologies should have said I was reporting from the centre of Welwyn Garden City.
