  1. Red means take action. Perhaps they mean avoid travel on Friday but race off now to stockpile wine and chocolate? Bye, see you later...
  2. I was wondering about that too. Particularly as we still have lying snow from Monday and we have tickets for the Outdoor Show at Excel London for Saturday. Now wondering if the trains will be running into London on Saturday.....
  3. Good Morning, -0.4 °C Clear Humidity: 92% Wind: Calm Dew Point: -2 °C Pressure: 1018 hPa The above latest recordings are slightly out of date as it clouded over a few minutes ago after a lovely sunny start.
  4. Hmm, typical indeed. I bet the back of my house and garden will get buried with this - I wonder how many inches I'd have got if I was at home? If I start hitching a lift now d'you think I'll be back by tomorrow night? For the snow starved Westies, enjoy!
  5. This was in the Secure Ward a bit earlier. The GFS becomes clear... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JmH56ypfFeA
  6. Goodness, where is SS in his kilt? BBC weather forecast at midday is showing lots of snow for Scotland on Friday. And GP's post in the Secure Ward a short time ago is as close to a full scale nervous breakdown ramp as I've ever seen! "I think we need to start to plan contingencies for a potentially sustained and very severe spell of wintry weather, of which Friday could just be the start. NWP is presenting a number of potential snow events next week, which could well provide substantive accumulations. The longwave trough migrating eastwards off the eastern coast of North America is consistently being modelled by ensemble means as cutting through a developing mid Atlantic ridge mid to late next week. That provides an eddy in the flow which is likely to enhance the easterly flow off an already frigid land mass to our east and north-east. Thereafter, the ridge could retrogress towards the NE Atlantic and Greenland bring in another surge of Arctic air from the NE. That would give us a sustained period (with snowcover for much of the UK) of below normal temperatures. I've grabbed the 06z GEFS at day 13 which depicts the synoptic pattern with a trough firmly ensconsed over Europe and high pressure to the north." Does he mean getting in extra wine and chocolate?
  7. Met office updated warnings for Friday. I expect these to be modified between now and Friday and wonder if the amber area will extent over our region? http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map

    14 Jan 2012 - Snow

Gosh, it does snow Down South....
  9. Am confused! And lost, obviously. Posted this in London and South East thread, whilst wondering why there wasn't one specifically for the East of England anymore..... Edit: Snow stopped about 20 minutes ago. Woke up to a white covering of about a centimetre. Started snowing again around 11am. Has been steady and heavy most of the time. A few photos from my front and back windows. Will pop out later to take some of the village, park etc. PS: Now falling much more thickly and heavily.....!
