  1. From the album: 14 Jan 2012 - Snow

Taken at 14:22 - the snow just gets heavier.
  2. Woke up to a white covering of about a centimetre. Started snowing again around 11am. Has been steady and heavy most of the time. A few photos from my front and back windows. Will pop out later to take some of the village, park etc. PS: Now falling much more thickly and heavily.....!
  3. Oh dear. Was she the woman who turned from a group trying to push her car up a hill and shouted "how the fe*k is she able to drive up like that?" I swear she shook a fist at me...
  4. I remember that day for the sheer chaos! The snow accumulated very quickly (very exciting!) and by late morning Barrhead (where I was working that day) was in full evacuation mode. I tried several routes out of town but despite being able to whizz around in my new winter tyres, kept being stopped by the gridlocks of those who didn't have them. Eventually decided to give up, park the car and walk back to Clarkston. Every road was blocked with traffic jams. Gritters stuck with nowhere to go. Have never seen chaos like it. Although it took me a long time to get to my flat, I heard from colleagues who stayed with their cars that it took up to 11 hours to drive a few miles. We did get an amazing amount of snow though...... *sighs in hope*
  5. Hi Onemanmows, you won't get that sort of negativity in here! This thread is the best, imo, on N-W. You get knowledgeable and understandable technical information, great humour and friendliness in here - just what the doctor ordered after the sheer hysteria and bitter commentary in some other parts of the forum. Even if all the sacrifices at the alter of the Snow God aren't successful for everyone we are pleased that it snows somewhere in Scotland! I love it in here. I feel I should post a chart but haven't got the courage to drag one out of the Secure Ward, so here's my ramp.....
  6. Ha! Must be someone up there - 19 pages worth of nice ones anyway... !!
  7. Post by Ian in the Secure Ward a short time ago....... "Some fascinating analysis from UKMO for weekend. Snow probability increasing later Sat for places such as Birmingham etc, but heavy rain event to south, until retreat of rear-edge into early Sun offers wintry potential further south. However, UKMO focus firmly on developments into Mon with potential for "significant snow event" into W Country and environs. UKMO GM heavily modified to EC for this stage: raw GM and MOGREPS track of low to E/N not favoured solution. Confidence re Mon still too low for any early warning." Doesn't make a lot of sense to me except I'm pretty sure I can't see the word Scotland....?
  8. Oh dear God; 1,702 on N-W. 1,156 of those in the Secure Ward aka the MT and 49 pages since this morning of fevered, incoherant jibberings whilst rocking back and forth on their beds. So nice to pop in here for an understandable and efficient update, as usual. I'd quite like to sacrifice the spoiled prima donna who is renting our home in Scotland (and complaining about the heating system - nothing wrong with it) while we are stuck in exile down inside the M25. Beam me up Scotty...!! Please!
  9. Happy New Year to you all! Oh it’s a joy to be back in the sacrosanctity and saneness of this Scottish thread! I confess I strayed (into the MT) and am now in need of a strong single malt or three. Well, we went home and I would like to talk about the proud warrior nation, that comprises my Outlaws, complaining about the English b***tards in Government in London but they were cowed into silence. Depressed, dulled silence. It rained. It rained the entire journey up the M74. It rained the entire time we were there. It not only rained the entire time we were soggily seeping around the Southside; it hurled itself with the intensity of The Three Furies at the windows and kept Himself and I, softened by our exile Down South, twitchily awake and stunned with fatigue for 4 out of the 5 nights we were confined to our Ten Foot Apart Single Beds in the guest room. Even my sleep deprivation-induced nastily provocative “it must be the English at Faslane firing missiles at Holyrood to see the New Year in†in response to the older Outlaws’ “what on earth are they†– (Chinese Lanterns, just after the bells, wheeching across from West to East at about 170 mph) was met with indifference and no comment. I think the last 13 months of constant rain has finally pushed them over the edge. For their sanity I fervently hope this does indeed happen…….
  10. Afternoon all, I hope no-one suffers flooding due to the present / next couple of days. If the following link has been posted already I apologise but if not, I was reminded of how tough a time our fishermen have, and this is just getting into the parking space as it were - even when we think we have it bad on land... Happy Christmas to the best of N-W ! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-20800411
  11. Thanks Paul and team. Probably the closest I'll get to snow for ages, so I thought I'd wear it in here!
  12. Same here! -1C has been our warmest and now dropping again. That's 2 (tiny) snow falls and an ice day this autumn/winter. I didn't know things like this happened inside the M25! Whatever next....??
  13. After an overnight low of -5 we have warmed up to the current -1.1 C Dewpoint -1 C Visibility 1.7 km Pressure 1021 hPa UV: 1 Mostly still frozen with heavy rime. Where the earlier sun reached, the grass has changed to green but car windows etc. still frozen. We may achieve our first ice day,,,
  14. Agree totally with you - usually it will snow and settle at our height without problems even when Glasgow and the southside are being rained on. Living vicariously through the Kiltie photos though!
  15. Ha! Lots of curtain twitching all the way down here too (virtually anyway). Can remotely report that my village up on the Fenwick Moors is, unfortunately, experiencing rain. Which is disappointing at it sits at just over 122m asl.
  16. He's not the only one..! Good morning (sorry, afternoon) to the Sensational Snowy Scots. I've enjoyed reading about the snow and even the icy conditions, even though its made me homesick. Only 26 days until I get back Enjoy and take care. Hey Mondy, welcome back! I missed you. (You were the only one who ever bothered replying to the few, admittedly very basic, posts I plucked up courage to put in the model thread - and you were always very gentlemanly toward me.)
  17. It seems safer to ask the question in here - what is that tropical/sub tropical low doing this late in the year? (I thought I was hallucinating when I saw it, or maybe that's just caused by the manic depressive atmosphere of the model thread.)
  18. Oh my indeed. Oh my, Oh my, Ohhh my!! Surely the Christian Grey of the day? Ahem... Carry on, you erudite chaps. (BBC1 weather just had Glasgow at -1 under fog with definite talk of snow for some Friday into Saturday)
  19. When I read your forecasts and, indeed, your posts, I'm always amazed at how young you are! An interesting, enticing and informative forecast. Thank you!
  20. Good morning. 5 degrees C and sunny here and looking beautiful with the trees glowing.
  21. Morning Sir, I know, I know, like the lack of rain compared to the west of Scotland....(still missing my home and extended family in spite of that) Utterly shocked to see that it was cold enough to snow (well, flurry) though as it has always felt so much warmer down here! Thank you!
  22. And an exile within the M24 in Hertfordshire reports it too! Nothing to compare with what you must have though. Here are a few photos I took earlier to send back to amuse the family in Scotland (only a dusting mind but nevertheless a dusting close to London. In October....)
  23. Completely shocked to find a light dusting of snow on the cars and surrounding roofs, especially having recently moved down here from Scotland with no expectations of snow inside the M25. It looks pretty out there with the sun up now and the trees still in leaf. Currently 2 C but feeling much colder in the strong wind.
