  1. My session timed out. Has it landed safely yet Robbie? Desperate for some sleep but couldn't go to bed until I knew it had got down OK.
  2. Over Sittingbourne atm. Heading back to Heathrow?
  3. The time between the really wild gusts seems longer. Although about 5 minutes ago I thought my bay window was going to be sucked out. Am hoping we've had the worst of it here.
  4. Rain started around 9am. Heavy and constant until about 7pm; now eased off. Wind has been steadily increasing since 5pm. Gusts are now causing north facing double glazed bay windows to creak alarmingly and its howling down the chimney. Between the strongest gusts the wind is a low sounding roar. I was going to go out the back of the building and stand on the south facing high ground parkland (overlooks the M25 in the distance) but it seems too wild to be wondering around out there. Our beautiful trees (bought out here for safety from Kew Gardens during WWII) are thrashing around so much I don't know if they will all survive this, especially if it is due to get worse by midnight before it eases off. Unsure what the gusts are unfortunately, although local weather forecast just said we are getting recorded gusts of 50 plus mph. If this is just over 50 I feel sorry for those who are getting much higher gusts.
  5. T'was quiet and calm, almost the norm On the evening of Poets Day With prose in our hose And rhymes on our minds We forgot to report the new storm Then Jo, she produced a small cough Which then set everyone off With rain on the plain And breeze in the trees And Jo felt she was being told off Oh and wind is now picking up after the earlier calm.
  6. I've been up all night too. Unfortunately not out having a good time! The sound of water trickling onto window cills in bedroom woke me for the second time this week. Spent the wee hours into dawn mopping up, placing bowls, more mopping... The stonework above the bay windown in bedroom and drawing room is so saturated that water is leaking through the plaster. With tonight's expected heavy rain I fear being awake clearing up bits of ceiling plaster as the whole lot gives way. About to try the roads to get to work; there was quite a lot of localised flooding on the way home yesterday, and that was before last night's little lot...
  7. That's where I would be if still living in East Ayrshire - my favourite place when its stormy. Poor Laura Bicker on BBC news doing a stirling job of staying upright on the sea front at Ardrossan - and at some risk of being hit by the waves and sucked out into the boiling sea behind her. Very dramatic at high tide 30 minutes ago. Mind you, down here in soft southern parts, it keeps getting almost totally dark with my local roads flooded, thunder, hail, some sleet and monsoon sideways rain. I almost feel like I'm back in Ayrshire! Take care all and send me a postcard from Norway after Sunday's incoming hits you.
  8. Yup, just about to say I think he managed to get it down at last. Phew. I was getting quite worried about him. Can try and get to bed now - just as it is ramping up out there....
  9. I've been watching him. Watching him going round in ever decreasing circles.... It must be dreadful for those on board. Very glad I'm not on one of those planes and safely indoors. Even with the windows creaking and flexing and the roaring getting louder. Feel for those of you further south. Hope you get through the night without damage.
  10. Haha! Have come in here because it is safer....I just wanted to say stay safe tomorrow; that I hope no-one loses power and you can all get your Christmas dinners cooked, that chimney stacks remain intact, roof slates stay in-situ and no-one gets hurt or is unable to see their families over the festive period.Missing Scotland dreadfully!! Although it is now beginning to feel a bit like East Ayrshire, when Bawbag started knocking on the door, where I am at the moment.Take care tomorrow and on Friday and Happy Christmas to the best nw thread!
  11. It is a lot higher in my part of Hertfordshire I can assure you. 49 mph gusts recorded for St Albans. Looking at the trees surrounding me I don't want to think what tonight's gusts will do.
  12. I'm expecting you all to be reporting in from Norway tomorrow. I'm glad I don't have to do the old commute up over Fenwick and Eaglesham Moors to work. I sincerely hope none of you experience damage - and stay safe if you have to go out in the morning. Will be thinking of you all.....
  13. Same here, gone very quiet. BBC national and local forecasts keep saying we are due the worst between 8am and 10am.
  14. Someone flicked a switch and it has just gone from windy to crazy. Am surrounded by huge trees and can't believe the angle they are at. The air is full of flying debris and it is howling. Windows creaking. Those cars I saw driving out a bit earlier as they thought we were through the worst of it...... I'm not going anywhere.
  15. And the best of luck to you Mr Sykes for a safe journey. We'd all want to know that you arrived OK, so please message us when you make land...from The Hague
  16. Only four days to go and I can legitimately post in here again. Can't wait to get up to stay with friends in my most favourite place in the whole world (near Northernlights - so sorry about your calf btw, poor little mite), I shall be wearing my warm jacket SS as I see the temperatures are going to fall. Still, lots of single malt, an open fire and the company of dear friends in beautiful Morayshire, when it is cold outside, can't be beaten in my book! Diligently revising useful bits of Doric such as, Fa's roond is it?
  17. Seems apt..? Apologies if this has already been posted but just got it on facebook and it amused me.
  18. Heavy graupel waited until I had to get out of car for 10 minute walk from car park to office at 8am. Continued until 2pm with varying degrees of intensity. From 2 - 4pm turned to heavy sideways snow, with 50 pence sized flakes. Needless to say I didn't pay much attention to the 2 hour meeting I was in. (Work is in Welwyn Garden city btw). Has remained dry since. Which I'm quite relieved about as I had my winter tryes swopped to summer ones at the weekend whilst visiting family in Scotland and they are uselessly stored under the stairs in my house up there. Feels warmer at around 3 degrees tonight.
  19. Thanks Lorenzo! He is adorable!! Oh, I wish...... No, no you aren't. Oh, I wish.....
  20. Congratulations to you both. Looking forward to photos of your wee man.
  21. Cloud today from late morning after a sunny and stunningly beautiful start. Heavy frost after a clear and starlit night. Got to drive back down south this evening unfortunately. The weather in East Ayrshire has been lovely since Friday with snowdrifts still in place all over Fenwick and Eaglesham moors, which the daily sun hasn't yet managed to shift. I shall miss my home in this quiet part of Scotland very much! Looking forward to a bit more warmth in a month when next home.
  22. Some very high thin cloud but looks another promising start. It hasn't rained since I arrived back home; that's three whole days! Must be nearing the record for the West of Scotland..... Mountains to the north of Glasgow looked spectacular yesterday against a blue sky. The air must have been unusually clean as the Argyl Highlands and Ben Lomand's white peak looked very close to Newton Mearns where I was gazing at them from. I had my winter tyres taken off on Friday and been experiencing a niggling concern ever since. Have I been a premature numpty? Happy Easter to all!
  23. Not much fun being a Methodist Catholic.either. Its bad enough not drinking. But to have to feel bl**dy guilty about it really sucks......
  24. After moderate dandruff yesterday morning for a couple of hours, the snowflakes increased to 50 pence sized slow, lazy, fluffy light to moderate intensity. Didn't settle though. Sky then cleared with beautiful sun and bluest of blue skies. Very cold night leading to a cloudy start in Glasgow south side. However by late morning sun again appeared. Had to go to Stirling and was treated to the most beautiful day with the castle dour and broody against that blue sky that Scotland does so well on clear winter days. The best treat though was the stunning circle of hills and snow topped mountains with mid afternoon sun hitting them at just the right angle to make them feel touchable. Then back on the M80 listening to BBC Radio Scotland's last 15 minutes of rugby commentary (that should really read BBC Radio Scotland's pub chant 'n chat). Partisan? Incoherent yells and cheers, or erudite and accurate observational commentary? You decide: "with his nose dripping blood and snotters...." and intelligent radio "oh will you LOOK at that!!" *eyes obediently flick to radio* Haven't laughed so much in ages.
