  1. Think that's my lot for here.

Streamer unlikely down the Thames I feel.

Oh well, cannot complain, got a couple of inches here and was great seeing the blizzards and thundersnow earlier.

Hopefully a couple more cm's will fall before morning.

    Night all.

Roll on Sat night, when we could see a little more from the North..

EDIT: Kold, your gonna make me stay up a little longer now! :D

Beeb graphics seem to suggest more snow from 3am here until about 8am... :D

  2. thanks for the update. Feel a little disappointed with the current depth. so fingers crossed it comes off.

    What you got?

I have about 2" maybe 2.5" now. Not bad and can't complain really, this close to the N.Sea.

Still no sign of the streamer, winds do look close to being right for it now so will be very much a wait and see set-up over the next 3hrs or so. Anyway we still have a very convective flow, asn't really stopped snowing here since it started though its been very variable in strength, though it doesn't seem to have been adding depth, more then likely all its doing is replacing the slowly melting snow...

Yeah. Was hoping it would of showed it's hand by now. But alas at the mouth of the Thames, light snow on and off.

  3. I'm still hanging in there to see what occurs. Not sure how long i can last. pardon.gif

Wind seems to have really picked up again, coming from a more easterly direction that before.

Gonna give it another 30 mins. Whats happening in Southen, that should give me a clue as to whether its heading my way over to NW Kent.

Steady stream of light/mod snow showers for last 20 mins or so.

Nothing major though. Perhaps it will pick up shortly. If not im turning in!

  4. Latest radar shows bands of ppn lining up more east-west in the Thames Estuary, although only light at the moment, some heavier echoes showing over Essex. Looks to be a window of between 3.00 a.m and 9.00 a.m where a Thames streamer could set-up.

If so, imo, favoured areas would be S.E.Essex then W.S.W. into N.W.Kent and perhaps clipping into S.E.London and E.Surrey.

    Regards,

    Tom.

Yep. the angle of the showers in the S N.Sea is classic TSS setup.

I guess I will be first to see any such occurrence being in Southend. Will stay up a little longer, just incase.

EDIT: Now snowing moderately...Can it be...

  5. Only just started to get going to be honest. Absolute white out at the moment.

I know everyone is going on about the Thames streamer but at the moment the action is through the Wash. Personally I can't see a Thames streamer developing.

Look at the radar TEITS. here

Look at the angle of the showers in the S N.Sea (E-W angle)

Could of course be wishful thinking on my part...

Hope you get a decent covering after missing out earlier.

  6. It has definitely gotten colder in the last hour. Before virtually nothing was settling, now all is settling and the snow is not wet. I really hope this continues. Looking at the radar, convection seems to be deveolping in the north sea and pushing westwards through the thames estuary. If it develops into a full blown streamer it would be fantastic. Any of the more informed members on here think this is happening?

Quite possibly. Def convection happening around 50 miles from the mouth of the Thames.

Will be the first to report any snow falling as I'm at the mouth!

EDIT: Here comes the snow again after a dry last hour or so!! Hopefully this IS the Thames Estuary Streamer...

  7. Let's see if this stuff is any colder :wallbash:

I would have thought it was merely elevation - they say center of Chelmsford has 1.5 ins which is not far off what I show in my picture (1 ins?) - compared to 4 ins on the "hills", if Essex can be said to have those.

But... Bradwell and Southend have 3 inches? Doesn't make sense on my theory, unless they had even more PPN... and I had a lot. spectacular and scary with the wind for just a while

Side note - to the north of South Woodham is a hill, called radar hill. wonders if that has micro climate effect?

More like 2" in Southend AFT...

  8. AFT, the snow does look fairly wet but I was somewhat expecting that, the thames region does look a touch warmer then surrounding areas however that hopefully will be balanced out by the snowfall coming up.

The fact that the MO have issued a warning of 6 inches for S.Essex, N.Kent and London strongly hints that they are expecting a thames snow streamer setting up in the next hour or so. Front is weakening further inland, probably suggesting the forcing is shifting back to the north sea where weak contvection firing up, hopefully these will explode when they reach the thames.

Check the radar. Def setting up a streamer for the Estuary...

Watch it build up to my ENE.

    here

  9. Yeah about the same here, temp profiles upto now have been clse to marginal so depsite what radar would suggest snowfall hasn't been quite as high as you'd expect, esp compared to places away from the Thames...

Anyway MO issuing a very heavy snowfall wartning is something I've not really seen before too often, indeed I think you can see the start of what wil lbe the thames streamer in the North Sea, winds should turn ENE/E in the next 30-60 mins...

Im using this radar Kold - Here

Looks like some showers brewing to the ENE of me...

Was going to turn in. Think I may give it an hour or so yet...

Winds just offshore Suffolk and Essex are now ENE, And as such there are now the 1st Inklings of Showers forming moving in towards the Estuary :)

Was going to go to bed. Think I may just stay awake a little while longer...

    :)

  10. Morning SR!

I had them too, they were frozen rain rather than lighter moisture/mist laying on the car screen causing a more general covering of white. It was ruddy difficult to shift!

I have to say I still need convincing that I will get a descent covering of snow along my part of the SE coast, as the SST's are acting like a hot water bottle at the moment.

Yep. Same here on the SE Essex coastline. Too marginal for my liking. Just for once I wish it could be a simple transition to snow!

  11. The way I see it is those in the W will be relying on show showers. However for those in the E of our region it will be persistant heavy snow. I know which I would prefer!

    Indeed TEITS.

Fingers crossed some prolonged bands make it your way.

Funny isn't it, your concerned about getting the showers and I'm concerned whether or not my "prolonged" spells of snow, will indeed be snow or sleet! :yahoo:

Never simple in this country is it.

  12. For the guys in the East worrying about missing the showers. Dont!

With a NE flow in theory those in the East should see the heaviest and most prolonged showers. Whether they are of snow nearer the coasts is up for debate, certainly until the early hours anyway.

I think the wind is a bit stronger than they originally thought, allowing the showers to push further inland across Western parts of our region. Good news all round really. We should all get a slice of the action.

  13. Yeah I live practically right next to it haha, how much snow did you see yesterday? The radar showed snow for you yesterday but it seemed to break up as it crossed the Thames which was quite annoying.

Haha. Hope it doesn't cause the air around you to be too warm, what with all that steam/heat it throws out!

As for snow yesterday. Not a lot to be honest. We had small flakes falling from about midday, blowing in the wind. Then we had a heavy spell of snow around 2.45pm, which lasted about 30 mins, before turning to rain for the rest of the day. Didn't settle on anything.

What about you? Any snow showers yesterday?

Anyone care to comment on Rob M's forecast on the Beeb last night?

Chance of a marginal channel low type situation on Monday and warming up?

  14. Haha yes it does, but surely the warmer sea temperatures will mean its more likely to be wet snow?

    On the Isle of Grain

    Hi Daniel.

You are just across the Thames to me, about 3 miles away. Are you near that monstrousity of a power station?!

I too share your concerns we may just see sleet/wet snow. Let's hope all the synoptics work in our favour eh.

There's nothing worse than looking across the Thames and seeing a blanket of white on the other side, when you have nothing. That's how marginal I think it could be though. Here's hoping I'm wrong :good:
