  1. very dry light snow falling in a strong bitingly cold wind. about 2cm on the ground temps risen from -2.4c to -1.1c which must mean cloud cover and more snow to come. Time to turn in but what a winter . Dec/Jan/Feb laying snow- cant remember when that has happened even in the seventies and eighties.
  2. Light Snow falling 0.7c -trying to settle
  3. Very light snow in Biggin Hill Kent/Greater London -Starting to get a little heavier now.
  4. Very good cold spell for Biggin Hill Kent. About 18 days snow cover this winter so far and almost a week of freezing temps. The good thing about being high up is that the snow is deeper the temps are colder and we are not that far from Central London. Before Christmas a max snow depth was about 5 ins after Christmas max about 8ins the difference this winter the snow did not disappear after 36 hours . Today is awful with heavy rain temps at 3.6c snow all washed away.
  5. //forumcache.netweather.tv/uploads/monthly_01_2010/post-5278-12633803916528_thumb.jpghttp://forumcache.netweather.tv/uploads/monthly_01_2010/post-5278-12633802802228_thumb.jpg8-12633800270228_thumb.jpg Biggin Hill snow today
  6. Heavy snow in Biggin Hill and Keston. Just returned home after trying to get me and three Biggin Hill work colleagues to work in Bromley but everywhere is gridlocked .Probably about 10cms has now fallen.
  7. The perfect morning for me Temp in Biggin Hill -1.6c Fine dry alpine snow falling covering the 6ins of snow still lying making it about 8ins on the grass. Icicles hanging from the roof dry crisp air I want to capture this day :air_kiss:
  8. Come on folks is this not the most interesting winter in two decades. Here we are disappointed that temps are going up to 3c or 4C The charts still look good and who knows Wednesday could bring something interesting. Its happened before. So much cold about. Some have not had much snow but these cold temps are exceptional. Just look back even to last winter OK In Feb a lot of snow but it was gone withing 36 hours. The winter before last was the most boring mild of all time. All cold winters have a mild period but they reloaded quickly and I am hoping this will happen. Dont write off February. Hands up who thought we would have a month of almost freezing temps by the 10th of January. Biggin Hill is nearly 650ft High and I am lucky( If you like snow that is) to get a lot of extra marginal snow days. Today we have had a maxi 0.05c and its now below freezing so melt has been minimal but the snow is not dry anymore which is a shame. A -6c or -7c night would turn it to dry snow again
  9. Light snow most of the day in Biggin Hill Max temp 0.5c so just above freezing for a short while. First time since Monday so little melt away from the house. Icicles formed as the temps back to freezing. In any cold snowy spell unless it is exceptionally cold you will always get snow melt near the house. A Hunch but this cold spell is not over yet and a reload is on the cards. Still have 6 or 7 ins on pavements and garden. We have been spoilt for cold and our expectations are higher.
  10. Hi Scrat good snowfall for us today temps are below -2c and Mr Deacon did say 20cms for the hills . We seem to have a lot more snow on the Downs than surrounding areas.
  11. I am of course looking forward to a summary of this next snow fiesta from Nick F of Tunbridge Wells our resident senior Forecaster drinks:
  12. We had a cm or so in Biggin Hill and it has been snowing on and off for the last hour. Min Temp -4.4c currently -3.3c dew point -4.2c .Heavy swirling snow at the moment just lovely to look at -adding to the 7ins still laying from Tuesday/Wed. but doesn't look to be setting in. My weather station shows sunshine which is odd. Mr Deacon did say 15cm today over the Downs and heavier snow to the South of London later today.
  13. Heavy snow just starting in Biggin Hill been snowing lightly all day total snow about 20cms ins -Roads clear this morning so drove to work in Bromley where only about an 3 cms had fallen. Dropped a colleague off in Warlingham which is bad and drove back up Westerham Hill looks as though I just about made it as heavy snow is now falling with a biting wind.
  14. Just measured properly and we have just over 7ins of snow (18cms) we are just on the edge of the big snow although this a heavier fall than December by 3 ins- Just wondering about Croydon-Yamkin where are you
  15. Biggin Hill which is on the Kent/ Surrey borders we have about 15cms of snow very pretty Temps -1c so no melt going to attempt :o get to work.
  16. Steve M whats your take on the weekend. This snow is intense and will be with us for sometime as temps plummet -very rare. Will be even colder for the weekend. BBC going for heavy snow on Sunday with very cold temps from the East. Jan 1987 event maybe.
  17. Are we in for more this weekend The BBC forecaster who hates snow said North East-Humber to watch on Thursday. The guy really hates snow. :o
  18. How long is this going to last as I would think we are on 6 cms per hour min Biggin Hill 650 ft NW Kent or Greater London if you like <_<
  19. Snow heavier than ever complete covering in such a short time. If Croydon is to get ten inches of snow then add another five inches for the North Downs.
  20. Very very heavy snow in Biggin Hill for the last 20 mins covering everywhere. If this goes on then it will be the heaviest since Feb 2009
  21. Biggin Hill -3.3c Carol Kirkwood on BBC said snow tomorrow over the South/South East will be heavy and slow to clear 5 day forecast for Biggin Hill heavy snow Wednesday then snow rest of the week and not getting above freezing all week -
