  1. Lots of abandon cars in Biggin Hill can you believe just walked two miles across fields as I left my car at the White Bear. Work Mate had to walk from Keston to Biggin Hill -only about 7cms of snow but road are like ice rinks. B)
  2. Heavy snow still falling in Biggin Hill -Roads are blocked just over in 4cms has fallen in 30 minutes. Wife just phoned and said its taken 30 minutes to drive 1/2 a mile. Nothing in Bromley
  3. A colleague who left work early today has just phoned me to say that Biggin Hill has heavy snow which has settled and the roads are treacherous. Just been confirmed by my daughter. All pavements and road. covered l
  4. Wet snow in Bromley Kent Temps dropping . Supposed to be the coldest weekend of the winter temps in London will be -5c on Saturday colder on Sunday. Country areas down to -10c . Anyway if it does snow tonight it will certainly stick for the whole weekend.
  5. Just to say- although the SE missed the snow last night and today the mist and fog rolling in are making the temps drop like a stone. This really is a much better winter and makes it feel so much more seasonal and although I hope there is another 6 weeks of winter when spring does arrive it is so much more pleasing than having experienced a horrible damp mild winter with hardly any frosts which makes it seem as though winter and spring have merged, a bit like the last two we endured . High ground should see another 10 to 15cm of snow in the next 24 hours with Greater London seeing at least 7cms -Just my opinion
  6. Great thread- People always remember exceptional weather events and distort it as though in the good old days winters were always very snowy and cold. This is a myth and cold winters in my opinion were the exception rather than the norm. In the sixties, seventies and eighties there were several winters where snow was very rare . Not every winter in the eighties was a cold one but we just happened to have a run of colder than average winters for two thirds of that decade. Purely based on my location which is over 630ft on the North Downs this winter so far would fit very nicely into the last 4 decades of my weather watching life and be near the top of every decade. A bit of snow in November and December a couple inches lay for a week in early January . 1ft of snow early February which has lasted until today and I daresay it will be topped up tonight. Min temps over these last 3 months have gone down to -10c and there has been a few Ice days. best winter since 1996/97 and you only have to compare it with the last two winter which in my opinion where so dire that I will remember those as the worst in my lifetime. This winter isnt over yet and March can deliver great snow especially over high ground. Best winter for at least 12 years and if i remember correctly 96/97 ended very abruptly with a very early spring.
  7. Light snow finished min temp -5.9c no thaw what so ever and temps predicted to be tops -1c
  8. Heaviest snow of the day . It has been snowing for nearly 24 hours and the measure of snow is about 38cms hoping for at least 40cm which beats Feb 1991. According to the forecast London and Greater London it will remain as snow. Ice today and the Temps are starting to drop again.
  9. According to the latest forecast there will be a period of heavy snow from about 5pm onwards -all snow as temps remain below freezing. Some places will see another 30cms on the hills -Central London to see another 10cms . Tonight everywhere out of town will be well below freezing -even Central London will be -1c. Tomorrow is going to worse than today as far as travel is concerned. We now have 37cms and still coming down in blizzard fashion . Is the heavy snow early or are to have even more. The met-office have said this cold and snowy weather is going to stick around for a few days yet. At Last its been a long time coming but we have another date to talk about rather than 87/91 over the last 20 years Feb 2009
  10. ][ Cant seem to really capture the conditions but I think we have about 14ins of snow. temps just started falling from -1 to -1.5 hopefully with height we wont get any thawing snow and temps are expected to dip to -5c-I simply have to get into work tomorrow as the VAT man needs paying.
  11. Blizzard like conditions in Biggin Hill -Just made it back in time from the shops. Snow is blasting against the windows. Pictures to follow. Temp -1c . Our road blocked with about a foot of snow.
  12. JPG][a ttachment=77370:046.JPG] Some photos of our garden in Biggin Hill at least a foot of snow now and still coming down fast.
  13. Just to add we for London and parts of the South East we can finanly add my dad is gaaaay
  14. Hi Tom Biggin Hill has a foot of snow already and I am not even going to attempt to get to work in Bromley where there is 10" of snow. More heavy snow to come by lunch time so this may top February 1991
  15. I think it was 1987 when 24ins fell on the North Downs and parts of Surrey. The main Westerham Road was cut off for a day or so. At the moment on the Downs have about 8 ins and it is still falling fast .It could beat February 1991 but not the temps.
  16. Was going to bed but the snow is getting heavier temp -3.6c Camera battera run down . Dont know when the next time we will get such fantastic snow. Nick F has a great link to Leicester Square with people walking around in the heavy snow. Now that doesn't happen often.
  17. Last report Dry fine powder heavy snow still falling fast. 15cm . Snowing for more than 5 hours. The Downs are getting a real pasting . Wouldn't be surprised to wake up and it will still be snowing. Max- I'm going for Surrey and N W Kent 25cms and possibly 30cms on the highest part of the Downs-Titsey Hill Westerham Hill just nearly 800ft high. Even Central London will have over 10cms
  18. Still snowing dry snow 14cms and still adding -Looks like this will remain as snow for the next couple of days and daytime temps will be lower than expected. More to come later this week.
  19. Ok still snowing hard and the official measure is 13.5cms. we are lucky but like most people we have missed out before so I hope you get your share by tomorrow . definitely the best dry snow event since 1991 temps -3.9c good luck getting to work tomorrow. -
  20. Temps -4c and still snowing hard what is cms to inches is 2.2 cms so at least 14cms this is a dry powder snow event -god forbid if it had been marginal . Got to say Biggin Hill does do well but this is the real deal. Might just have a day off work if the snow continues. Feb 1991 had these sort of temps-you know the wrong kind of snow. Gatwick closed the M20 closed. Just hope everyone keeps safe because out of all of this however beautiful the snow we all hope people are ok.
  21. Just looked out on the back garden to see a half moon but still snowing now snowing heavier than ever daughter measured 5.5 ins .
  22. Im sorry folks the snow is heavy and were heading for 12cms at least it just keeps on coming
  23. My Daughter just measured the snow and Biggin Hill has now got 4in s of snow and a complete white out with dry powder snow temps -3.6c fantastic.
  24. My wife my kids think I'm nuts 7cms and blizzard conditions with dry powder snow surely this is going to be the best event since 1991
