    Just a quick aside, but I'm in Canada at the moment and the Weather Channel has just had an expert on predicting this winter to be similar to 71/72. If this happens, and is duplicated over here, what doest that bring, I can't remember anything memorable from about that time.

    Well FI 500mB charts are starting to repeat, run to run and may indicate a move towards cooler weather. It all depends on where the jet goes from mid Nov onwards. A dive into Africa would be nice :-)

    Not sure if this is the right place to post so mods please move if appropriate. I remember from the last couple of years that there was a thread on sea ice arounf Greenland and also in the Baltic. Does anyone know what the current status is for these areas and what, if any, effect this will have on weather patterns? (There I've managed to vaguely link it to the models )

    John, Just measured on garden table 5 inches (I'm old lol). This may include about 1 inch of previous snow but I can't tell. Snow started at 5.30 and is still going but much lighter than earlier. LS29 6 EY

    Woke up to an accumulated depth of about 8" this morning and snowing heavily. Had to get a friend with a 4X4 to take up the Chevin to get the turkey. Glad he was able to help or Xmas would have been cancelled. Onlydown side is the only money machine in the village has broken down so don't know how we're going to buy beer :-)

    We had about 2-3" and started snowing again. Forecast says snow showers all next week . Glad I don't have to go out but will probably have to go to the supermarket later for essential supplies (wine)

    Damn I spoke too soon. We had 4 large flakes then nothing. The cloud has moved on, waiting for the next 'flurry'

    I like the GFS Control today. It shows a small area of HP pushing the LP S allowing another pulse of cold air to drop over the UK around 29 - 31st
