  1. UKMO shows potential for heavy snow and if the t48 - t72 came off then 20+cm is on the cards in elevated areas no problem. And if the following is a failed Feb then no one engaging in LRFs has a chance.

The cold hasn't been as impactive [the scurge of winter 12/13?]...but that's not a bad general outlook compared to what happened SSIB?

Anyway, as per usual the snowcasts are to be nowcasts...and its certainly looking likely to be more impactive than the beeb forecast a couple of days ago where the quote was the snow will NOT be problematic anywhere in the UK.....I think there are chances it will be?

    BFTP

it already is problomatic in Tow Law.

  2. end of the day it's coming and we know that,i'm not worried regards snow and how much for different areas of our domain.

it will do whatever it chooses to do on the day, nobody really knows the outcome because the event hasn't happened yet.

short lived blast of winter is how i see it at present, with the proviso of less cold but below average temps as the week draws out.

  3. That just gives a general outlook the north sea can strike at anytime in situations like this as 2010 proved any snow though will only be temporary the next 48 hours will be crucial its just a case now of seeing if we get any downgrades or not

    Here is the 16:00 update

    Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Cloudy again Saturday as further outbreaks of rain, this turning wintry on the hills later. Colder and windy on Sunday and Monday, with perhaps a few sleet or snow showers.

Which was outdated at 16:01 today.

  4. Hi Geordie - I did write notable rather than noticeable - not meaning to be pedantic mate. I' sure there will be some frost about but based on the T2M ens the nightime temps won't be especially low, examples below

    MT2_London_ens.png

Mancheter not bad and could get to -5C

    So not notable wink.png

EDIT : to put things into perspective the record for March was: March* -21.1 °C 4 March 1947 Houghall (County Durham)

My first college on leaving school, wasn't 1947 though lol.

a well known local frost hollow.

Scarily, 10 years ago today, armed with a free bit of software from the front of a pc magazine I started Netweather (or as it was then Net-Weather). Initially it was just a small hobby site with a few pages and a forum, but it quite quickly grew and as of today we see over 1 million people using the site a month!

Obviously a lot of people have played their part over the last 10 years, all of our forum team past and present have put in countless hours to keep things running smoothly on here, the forecast team have kept the site regularly updated with alerts and forecasts, Karl joined the team back in 2005 and is still with us working on the development side of things. Ian (my brother) invested as things began to take off in order to help us buy some kit, and is now with us full time too. There are too many people to individually thank, but to all our team members, community members and site users, I sincerely thank you all for your efforts, posts, enthusiasm and help with word of mouth over the years .

Over the coming weeks and months we're going to be holding events and running features to mark 10 years, looking back and forward in terms of what's to come. so stay tuned for that - I even have all the code for an early version of the site here which I may try to get uploaded as 'live' for a bit of retro fun.

For now though, I'm off to the pub for a celebratory drink Posted Image

Brilliant success story well done to all involved.

  6. UK Outlook for Friday 1 Mar 2013 to Sunday 10 Mar 2013:

Rather cloudy on Friday, the cloud thick enough for a little light rain or drizzle in places, but mostly dry. More widespread rain reaching the far northwest later on Friday, before moving southwards across the UK on Saturday, but becoming increasingly light and patchy. Clearer skies with wintry showers following into northeastern areas later on Saturday, persisting through Sunday, and perhaps a few wintry showers for some Irish Sea coasts as well. Northwestern areas remain unsettled and a little less cold, but elsewhere conditions mainly fine and dry into next week, with the best of any sunshine towards the south and east. Temperatures generally near or a little below average at first, turning cold, locally very cold in the northeast for a time, then generally a little less cold later.

UK Outlook for Monday 11 Mar 2013 to Monday 25 Mar 2013:

Most areas are likely to stay colder than average, perhaps more especially across the eastern side of the UK, with some more frosty nights to come. Generally, there are no strong signals regarding precipitation, but taking the period as a whole, some northwestern areas of the UK will probably end up a little drier than usual, whereas southern and eastern districts will perhaps be wetter than normal.

looks kinda promising this outlook., does this spell a northerly?

    NO!

  7. Is the Boro Millwall match on TV tomorrow night, just noticed it's an evening kick off? Chances of finding a pub that has it on is a different matter down here.

Assume its snowing in Yarm then also - my hometown - particularly if the showers have got inland as far as Darlo.

Only very light snow on and off here for what its worth.

    here you go M S.
