  1. http://awberrimilla.blogspot.com/ 1st hand accounts from a sail boat treking the NW passage. Also another one going the other way: http://www.69nord.com/english/expe/logbook.html
  2. If you stop heating a pan of water, it doesn't immediately cool. Now substitute 'massive oceans' for pan of water.
  3. I thought this was interesting - http://environment.newscientist.com/article/dn14456 'At over 3 kilometres beneath the surface, sitting atop what could be a huge bubble of magma, it's the hottest water ever found on Earth. The fluid is in a "supercritical" state that has never before been seen in nature.'
  4. Blimey - I'm in shock. Second month dead on, somehow. :o
  5. True, but that's not what the thread title says. I was just interpreting for BFTP.
  6. Bascially, the seasons are defined by the time of year, so summer is summer and winter is winter, no matter what the weather.
  7. I'm going to punt for 16.2 for July. Thanks!
  8. I'll punt a 14.5 for June, thanks!
  9. It was the active Atlantic that gave so much snow to the western highlands. Hence the excellent skiing that was had by many this weekend, under blue skies and warm sun.
  10. Hadley: http://hadobs.metoffice.com/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html Currently 6.9 (0) Eden: http://www.climate-uk.com/ Currently 6.8 (-0.9)
  11. A lot of daffodils here are still just in bud, hawthorn leaves are just starting to expand from their buds, the trees are bare altho' there is bud burst on most of them. Grass doesn't seem a any longer than it was after it's last haircut last year. The fruiting cherry is in bud burst as well - no sign of flowers as yet. Blackthorn is still flowering altho' it is at the end of its flowering season. Bluebells are just greenery at the moment. A definite North-South divide as far as I can tell.
  12. Lots of snow showers this morning/afternoon, along with heavy hail and some rain earlier on. Temp around 5ish, dropping to 2-3 in the showers, DP was 2ish about 1/2 hour ago but is now 0, gusty in the showers.
  13. Temp falling rapidy now as the rain front heads over - about 20mins ago it was 8, now 5.3. Light rain and a bit gusty.
  14. Scotland, especially in the north had a March with mostly below average temps. NE Scotland for example was -0.6. Northern Scotland was around -1 to -1.5 according to the Eden site. http://www.climate-uk.com/monthly/0803.htm The CET zone is central England only - and only a few stations within that area - Manley & Hadley use different stations for their calculations.
  15. I think I'll go for 7.9 - thanks!
  16. Nice fat snowflakes falling (well, blowing about in the wind) at the moment.
  17. Meto reporting rain showers here in Aberdeen but it is actually coming down as either sleet, snow or hail (usually all three in one shower) in sometimes quite heavy showers. Actually seeing a bit of sunshine right at this minute. Very gusty, but a bit mild for any snow to stay on the ground. XCweather was reporting light rain in Aviemore but when I looked at the traffic cam near Aviemore it was snowing.
  18. It's got really gusty here in the last 15 mins or so - up to 53mph apparently. Certainly the windows are shaking. Temp got up to 5ish this morning but has dropped back to 3ish. DP back to 0 after a rise to 2. Ppt is currently what looks like small clear irregular ice chips. 5 mins later is it now snowing.
  19. Snow-forecasts take on snowfall over the next 3 days: http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/uksnow_next3days.shtml
  20. Snow off and on through the night but none on the ground this morning. If you look at the traffic cam south of Aberdeen (north view) you can see laying snow on the low lying hills in the distance.
  21. Tipping down with sleet at the moment - snow inland looking at the traffic cams. DP 0, temp around 2.5 (dropping with the ppt). Edited - it's now snow.
  22. Ah, but you get the days off work, don't you? We don't. :o I'll be snow watching from my office tomorrow - maybe there will be enough for snowball fights for the kids in the school opposite.
  23. We don't get Easter off up here. We get a spring holiday in April - nowt to do with Easter.
