Looks like it is slowly starting to stick very heavy snow
Very heavy? Radar showing no red in your area. Must be another glitch. On a scale of 1 -10 with 10 being the heaviest snow you have ever seen what is it?
Latest wind observations and forecast. Its after midnight I expect snow showers to come in off the sea

Don't like to bash the met office but the warnings this week have been shocking . Us on east coast all week for frequent snow showers, hardly been any. The amber warning today , yes we are not in it but looking at radar its does not look disruptive unless im jumping the gun and its a system coming in later
Their warnings are based of current data and they always warn of the worst case to cover themselves... Well the data changed at the last minute... Northerly lasted literally hours and this system is not coming as far north as expected.... Does make you not believe them!

Although temps are high, dew points are still low. This is an unusual set up. Could snow for more than expected..... unless of course the wind picking up off the sea throws a spanner in the works!!!

It is now snowing in boro
Snow Shield broken? When did you get this shield anyway? Back in the early 90s I used to come down your way a fair bit and can remember many times you had more snow down there.

Light snow falling here, which is surprising. I am expecting another dusting by morning, which will be 4 dustings in a row!!!

Current temp is 2.7 degrees. We need something much heavier to allow evaporative cooling to take hold and allow for snow to fall and settle. Not sure this first front has any oomph in it, we are seeing something a bit more moderate now but temps are not falling much.
Indeed the snowline is about 350m at present which is much higher than anticipated. Hoping the second front will produce the goods, coming later this afternoon will help and there is colder air digging in from the north at the same it.
So far a frustrating day.
As always!

All we've heard over the past week in the mod thread is these systems always correct south. But yesterdays and today's seems to be further north than modelled
From memory I don't think this is correct. I recall them going north into Scotland and South into the midlands when supposed to be here. I think they are hopecasting!

Just checking out the Midlands group. Some have 15cm already....

When the winds pick up off the sea temp will rise and it will be rain/sleet. You will need to be 10 miles inland or at 500ft elevation to get snow. However, later as the low moves away it will drag in colder air from the NE. This is set to happen early tomorrow morning. This is the best chance for most of us. If you are lucky enough to be inland/higher up.... good luck.. hope you get a dumping.

For NE coastal areas, I am not expecting anything until the low clears away early Friday morning, pulling the colder air back in via a northerly flow.

More light snow here giving a covering. That will be 3 mornings in a row, albeit small amounts, but decent for March.
In fact moderate snow 5/10 intensity. Nice covering

Moderate hail falling here now. Showers seem to be popping up out of nowhere and heading inland. A good sign

Probably the best winter I’ve ever experienced. I was working up on the west road in Newcastle and my car was snowed in by the end of each day.
This is what a PROPER NEly brings. Shame its a one in 20 year event!!!
