  1. Moderate to heavy snow here adding to the covering earlier in the night. Actually i would say heavy snow now. But I dont expect much as the shower intensity seems to be decresing. My brother just left here and is turning back because of the amount of snow falling. Its now very heavy.... This is very heavy snow i would say 4 inches per hour rate
  2. Showers really starting to pack in around the Alnwick area....and they are developing further south all the time.
  3. Light snow here now at 0c. I have a good feeling about tonight....
  4. That makes things even more complicated. Its 0c here and I am only 7 miles from the coast at 250ft. i would have bet money that it was at least -1 up there. You must still have good cloud cover?
  5. No. They will just come later on. I would not expect anything before 8pm. Where the most intense showers will lie is a total luck of the draw....but thats what makes radar watching
  6. Very true. I remember once (about 10 years back) there was barely a covering of snow on Gosforth high st. and just up the road in kenton there was 3-4 inches, and thats at the bottom of Kenton road.
  7. Temperature is now falling. Its now 0.2c here and i think the colder air is starting to hit now. You can see the shower activity is sinking south and they are starting to form in the sea to the east of us. Let hope the intensity increases as they get here, although the ones to the north do look quite good anyway. Have a look at the traffic cam around the Jedburgh area.......My link
  8. The GFS charts for tues/wed/thurs are stunning and would surely bring widespread heavy snow to all our region. Looking at the FAX charts over the same time period there are more troughs than on a farm! Chances are superb, but as always the devil is in the detail and we have to wait till literally hours before the event before any certainty can be given for snow.
  9. The cold air is now starting to tuck in behind. Temp here has dropped from a max of 1.4c down to 0.7c now. No shower activity in the vacinity though and it i think it will be at least 6 before there are any (it will be colder then anyway).
  10. This is definitely a Co Durham event. There was no heavy ppn here at all and it formed south of here. I am waiting now to see what the showers will bring later. Temp still 1c here so i don't think the cold air has dug it properly yet.
  11. Well I hope all this cold air is lowering SSTs so later in the winter there will be less of a cooling effect. Its a catch 22 situation at the moment.
  12. It seems the wind has changed direction and we are about to loose the sea warming effect.......My link Temperatures should drop away nicely now, especially when the cloud cover clears. Its currently 0.8c here.....
  13. Thats weird as I am 1 mile east of you and its 0.7c here.
  14. Temperature is falling here now from a high of 1.6c now down to 0.9c. I made good use of my snow shovel this morning. Its nice to dig through a decent snow depth. I made the mistake last time of not clearing it off the drive and paths till the morning after. Well it was frozen solid and I could not budge it and it stayed that way for a week, meaning I was slipping everytime I went out. TWS - are you sure the band of showers currently intensifying to the North is going to be blown out to sea before it gets here?
  15. We must be in a mild sector now. The temp has risen to 1.6c and there is light sleet.
  16. There is a mild sector coming down tonight. I hope it does not melt some of the snow away here.
  17. Snowing here again. The wind has picked up and pushed the temp up to 0.5c.
  18. It stopped here for 10 minutes and is starting again now.
  19. The radar is showing the band intensifying. This is incredible it looks to be over 40 miles long now.
  20. Visibility down to roughly 300M now, I can't see the buildings down my road. This matches the showers of 1991 no problem.
  21. Still heavy here. Just spoke to my Dad in Morpeth (13 miles north) and its still heavy there (they have 5 inches), so I expect this to keep going for some time. Already over an inch here and its getting very heavy now. Is this a Polar low?
  22. I have to say this is very impressive snow. The sky is very dark and its getting very heavy. The band is stretched out along the coast and it looks over 30 miles long with red intensity. I think at least 4 inches will fall out of this
  23. Heavy snow here now and judging by the radar this could be a prolonged outbreak. Looks like just reserved for the east (about time!) though....
