  1. There must be someone on this thread that can report whats happening. It looks to be entering the Hexam area now...anyone.
  2. Heavy snow in the Aberdeen area......http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/index.aspx I cannot believe its 2.4c in Fenham. Thats just 5 miles west of me. I am expecting a sudden rise here very soon...
  3. TWS - You are correct. the temp has risen here to 0.2C the warmest since saturday.
  4. That band looks like the most promising since Saturday. Should give a few inches on high ground between carlisle and newcastle and maybe a dusting in low lying areas two the east. All eyes on the radar....
  5. Sound nice. I have a feeling we are going to be seeing more of the white stuff. Not only this winter, but for the foreseable future. I think we broke the pattern of the 'even larger teapot' in Feb / March 2006.
  6. Thanks. According to that its going to miss me and clip Morpeth before moving off into the sea via Alnwick.
  7. The moderate shower to the NW of Newcastle looks very close to me. Can anyone put a hi-res picture up as I can only see the meto one. -1.9 here by the way.
  8. I live in Forest Hall and it always suprises me how cold it is compared with most of the area. I got in from a party this morning at 2.30am and it was -6.8c. Its still -2.5 now. Anyway the snow last night was good (1"), but the radar built my hopes up a little as I was sure we would be getting 3" at least. Although there was a 10 minute period when the snow was the heaviest I had seen in years. I think we will be getting more snow before this spell comes to an end.
  9. I can't believe its not snow in Consett. That mild sector must have just missed me in NE Newcastle. Jusy spoke to my Dad who is in Morpeth and he says its chucking it down up there. Infact it is here now, this is very impressive.
  10. I would class this as Heavy snow now, something I have not seen for years and the flakes are huge
  11. 0c here now and getting heavy. I have to go out in about an hour...that should be fun
  12. Proper wet snow here now with bigger flakes and its starting to settle on the cars
  13. Started as sleet here at 1.4, but temp has dropped rapidly to 0.5 and its snowing. Just small flakes though so its not settling yet...
  14. Thanks for that Have a look at some of the webcams from N.Scotland. Try the two north east of inverness.... It looks sleety there, but the ones inland are getting a pasting.....http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/index.aspx
  15. Could you explain what a lapse rate is and how to read the chart please?
  16. The cold front coming down from the north looks promising for late afternoon / early evening. I have seen 3-4 inches at low levels from these systems before. I am hoping it will intensify to the east as the northerly will pull moisture in off the sea.
  17. NORTH EAST NEWCASTLE Can people please start putting the their location down as its good to see where the reports are coming from. Moderate snow falling here now. I would say around 2cm down with drifting. The activity is definetely intensifying to the north. It looks like there could be showers till morning now.....
  18. Thats an impressive area of snow heading in the Thames Valley, looks heavy, should put a dumping down. Back on topic... Shower activity has picked up a little to the north of Newcastle now so there is still some hope for tonight. But the main band is still to the south. I bet there are many roads blocked by morning as its readily drifting even here at only 250ft ASL. They are reporting THUNDERSNOW in Kent with a couple on inches down already...
  19. NORTH EAST NEWCASTLE A few LIGHT to MODERATE hail / snow showers here, enough to put a good blanket down, but they are certainly not what I would call heavy. Heavy is when you can't see 100M and its putting approx 2 inches down in half an hour.
  20. Another near miss here in the Newcastle area. This area used to be good for snow, but recent years it all seems to be heading south. They get the warm summers to Nothing will come of tonight, but there is a small chance of a few more flakes on saturday.
  21. Its lashing down with sleet and hail here temp dropped from 4.5 to 2.0. Radar is showing a heavy band which I think will fall as snow further inland above 500ft.
  22. I don't think the first wave of -5s has reached here yet, maybe at higher altitudes. Its certainly reached E.Scotland as they are reporting temp drops of 4 degrees. This is totally backed up by the GFS, which indicates the cold won't arrive here till after midnight at least. Then the -10s won't get here till tomorrow lunch time and thats where the fun starts...
