It's where your barnet will spontaneously combust lest you wear a woolley hat for at least 2 weeks solid. You cannot take it off, not even to wash your hair, but it causes a rash on your head and a mild fever due to the wool creating a lot of heat on your head, so you are prone to chills etc and you get flu like symptoms. Take the hat off too soon, and well, my friend, I'd hate to be the one cleaning up the mess.
The rash and fever are the most common forms of side effects from this type of condition, hence it is so called, 'hatfever'
