It's having another go at turning to snow here, some very fine snow falling, mixed in with the rain. Will be interesting to see which way it goes!
-
It's absolutely pants here!! Absolutely freezing, frozen rain making a racket outside, sheet of ice along the garden path... got a few snowflakes about half an hour ago but it's turned back to freezing rain pellets now. Pants!
-
Frozen rain here in Nantwich, didnt expect anything else though
-
Throwing it down with rain here, has been for quite a while now this morning.
-
Been raining most of the morning here in Nantwich. Showers have turned to hail in the last ten minutes, turning back to rain again now.
-
Wow... that structure is just unbelievable. Can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to see it in the flesh!

Thanks for that link Jason!

Thanks for the explanation John, very much appreciated.

Really looking good for todays chances, good luck guys and stay safe. Loving the live streaming this year, so much smoother. Thank you! Any plans to switch the sound on at all?

Woke up at around 7am this morning to find 3-4 inches of level snow on the grass and maybe 2-3 inches elsewhere. Beautiful scene with snow even blanketing the trees. I took a walk to get some bread and in some places the snow was around my ankles. Best snowfall of this winter for here although it is melting fast now
Aaron
Indeed it was/is a beautiful scene in our neck of the woods this morning.. biggest snowfall of the winter so far.
-
Wow woken up to nearly two inches of snow here this morning!! That makes a change, lol!
-
Some lovely heavy showers left a 2cm covering here in Nantwich, Cheshire.
-
Morning all Between nine and ten last night we received approx two cms of snow, left a lovely unexpected covering!! C.S. we're just missing that unfortunately! Good for you though!
-
It's slowed down to slight talcum powder now! And the thaw has started already. We have two and a half cm's though - not bad from a couple of hours of very light snowfall.
-
still snowing here and thats since 4.55am although its light at the moment, showing signs it could get heavier in the next half hour or so
I can't see any signs of it getting heavier, I can only see it fragmenting.
it is seriously starting to fragment, for a better view of this band go to http://www.raintoday.co.uk it shows it more clearly.Met office have lost the plot completely now...they have put orange warnings for the east coast..this stuff is highly unlikely to make it there surely.
Sorry but I think to say that the Met Office have lost the plot is crazy!! You obviously don't have much of an idea of how hard it is to forecast these kinds of 'events'. I think they should be shown a bit of respect for the extremely difficult job they do. An orange warning is just that - a warning to be 'prepared for'. If you read the warning for the east coast, it includes the warning of icy roads, not just potential snow.
Better to warn and then take the warning away if need be, than not to warn at all.

We have 2cms now, it's been constantly falling for around 2hrs but the grains really are so tiny, and not a huge amount of them - haven't seen any proper flakes yet and probably won't due to the band only producing light precip. At least it's not sleet or rain though.
-
Well after the 'big thaw' and thinking the ground was way too wet, I've woken to a nice covering everywhere, approx 1cm, maybe a fraction less. Very suprised tbh. Nice to see it kinda stuck overhead too although it's not snowing at the moment.
-
Just started drizzling in the wind here, and I have to say it's not feeling all that cold out there at the minute. Can't imagine we'll get any snow as we're always on the wrong side of marginal anyway here but anywhere with height might get a dusting if it makes it that far. Fairly light precip on the radar now, but still a lot of it. Wrong thread I know but Ireland has some really heavy precip again, and it's just not shifting, good grief!
-
Morning Lousie,
If your getting rain then ill be suprised to get snow here further north. However like to make a point that the main atlantic system is very intense, more intense than i thought it would be. Currently steam rolling toward the UK/Ireland.
Interesting times for some i feel, Northwest weather forcast 9C on friday, going to be a big change
John
Morning John
Yes I noticed how intense the system is, certainly here it feels like the cold air's just vanished so I just can't see any cold v mild happening where we are.
-
Morning all. Temp +2, dp -1 and currently raining, making for very slushy and slimy conditions underfoot. Treacherous. Can't see us getting any snow, but will be pleased to be proved wrong
-
The thaw has most certainly kicked in here. Looks like we got a dusting last night, but it's raining now so we've not much snow left at all
-
Looks woeful for the south of the region particularly the mersey...may change later but the way things are currently going intensification as occured to the north of the region around 30/40 miles north.
the coldest air is currently out toward the sw of ireland.
And the precip usually falls in a perfect circle does it?!
