It's looking very promising today and this time I'm sure I'll get a storm wherever you may be good luck and keep safe, e.g .which includes no standing on top of hills in any fierce thunderstorms or hanging from tops of trees with your camera trying to get lightning shots and getting stuck up there in a strong lightning storm with no one there to rescue you lol! ( you know who you are lol say no more)

I've been checking the Met office rain radar for the past hour and it's been showing heavy rain over my area, I've been outside to check a couple times and there's been nothing at all! I'm wondering if its anaprop.

Posted 7.38pm WedsModerate Risk of Elevated Thunderstorms Early Phase SW UK and Late Phase SE UKA relatively low risk for categorised severe weather though certainly some potential for localised electrical displays.A near 'Spanish Plume' scenario with a very elevated layer of theta expected to slide northward from the continent through Thurs. Looking at the forecast soundings it appears unlikely that any of this lot will be capable of becoming surface based. ML CAPE looks to start from around 700mb upwards. Spanish Plumes are typically very hard to predict timing wise. In this case even more so when the theta looks mixed in with the primary cold front then post frontal surface troughing. Some broad variation within the WRF and GFS models; WRF giving scattered thundery showers primarily early on across the SW whilst GFS concentrates the best instability much further east later in the day. If we look primarily at the GFS we see the strongest risk zone to be Herts through to Suffolk late evening. Whilst this region shows the strongest ascent between an elevated layer at 650mb and 500mb I am not sure if the increase in vertical shear at this level will have any significant effect in isolating any embedded storm cells.
Good luck all.

Wow you lucky lot who are getting storms
Don't forget to share any pics or videos.
I hope these storms travel up to Gloucestershire but I doubt it very much.

Synopsis
Upper trough/low west of Biscay will migrate eastwards towards France. On its northern flank, advection of a very warm and humid airmass will occur from NW France to SW Britain, with associated mid-level instability. At the surface, a frontal boundary will remain close to Biscay coasts towards Scilly.
DiscussionAlong the plume axis, scattered elevated showers and thunderstorms are forecast to drift northwestwards across the highlighted SLGT area throughout the forecast period, with some 400-600 J/kg MLCAPE. Given such instability, some stronger cells may produce small hail. Decaying cells may drift further north later in the day, although some uncertainty exists as to their northern extent.

Please lets keep on topic! any post that offends anyone please use the report button and please do not use this thread to discuss the complaint. This is a convective/storm discussion thread.Yes! some of us have had nothing much to discuss convective wise this year. But there is still a little hope for the rest of the year yet fingers crossed .

Me n my junior scool buddy were terrible eivl little blighters at school. If we caught one in class the trick was.... If you gently removed all the legs then released them, they were incapable of landing thus causing havoc to the girls for the duration of the lesson.I don't do things like that now, ive grown up a touch since then.... I think!
When I was young my brother used to pull off the legs and wings and put them in my bed and throw handfuls of them at me. That is why I'm petrified of the horrible little things. Yesterday the farmer cut the grass in the field , so there aren't so many but there are still enough to scare me lol.

From September sightings so far. I've seen thousands of crane flies, the robins singing for their territories, plenty of house martins and a gathering of starlings yesterday. September onward is always an interesting time for wildlife.

I've been getting my storm risks from the Netweather local forecasts and from Staverton Airport. But I know not to take the storm risk seriously until the actual day.

When will we ever get a good storm Lol I'm not far from you. I live on farm land and there are thousands here. Last year wasn't too bad.I spoke to a farmer who said that this has been the worst case for several years.
-
Please could anyone tell me when the Dll will die off. There are thousands in the field next to me and I'm petrified off them. It's been 3 weeks now they've been hanging around! Do I really have to wait until the first frost before they are killed off!

Fine I was stating your own websites words...

I was stating the forecast for my village...
Yes, Wills, but remember the whole of Netweather knows where you live anyway .We sure don't need reminding over and over again thank you. How about writing NP instead!
I think they may be right, this weekend.
I'll eat my hat if they are right lol but somehow I don't think so.

For some though they have had some of their best storms in as little as 2 weeks for 6 years.
I'd say it's the North east that does well nowadays and I know not all in the NE gets them but those that do have had a good couple of years of them. Could it be something to do with the North sea? years ago we used to get some breath taking storms her in Cheltenham! autumn ones were pretty cool.Summertime was the best though for all nighters but sadly nothing happens anymore.. Oh, how I miss the storms, the best weather of all in my book.
-
According to GFS my area is supposed to have Thunder storms all day on Saturday....is this likely? I know its a long way off still but I hope this comes off.....See summer out with a bang!!!
I'm sure you'll be okay.If You're working in London lol
