  1. What was your personal final tally Fitzwis, how did it measure up to others on the Islands?

EDIT: beaten to it once again, but you should really get your tape measure out, tut tut.

ok, ok, my bad :) although I did use a ruler to measure the depth outside our front door at half 7 yesterday evening and it was 3 inches deep (after the first 12 hour onslaught) so double that for the next 12 hours and add another 1.5 inches for the next 6 to 7 hours and my grand total was approximately 7.5 inches. The drifts in my back garden were at least 2 to 3 foot deep. Oh, and here's the link to more pics I took today around our area - don't get too jealous now blum.gif

  2. The snow has finally stopped falling here in Jersey. Approximately 31 hours worth of continuous heavy snow has brought the island to a stand still. Flying to and from Jersey Airport is suspended until 14:00 tomorrow and schools will remain closed as many roads are treacherous. Snow showers are forecast here tonight with the temperature expected to remain around freezing. Pictures to follow shortly good.gif

  3. Yes those channel island folk won't have any reason to moan next winter if they miss any snow lol :p not after what they've just experienced, a 24h+ blizzard! I've been waiting over 31 years for that to happen imby and the wait continues! Dec 81 is the closest we've ever come close to what they've just experienced.

And still experiencing. Heavy drifting snow still falling, temp -0.9c with comparisons being made to 1979.

  4. Extreme conditions remain here in Jersey. Lots of trees down, power lines down (approximately 200 homes without power), roads are now virtually impassable and the snow is relentless. At least 3 inches of fresh snow has fallen since 4pm on top of the 2 to 4 inches we had this morning, but with much deeper drifting occurring. I've a feeling it's going to be a long night.

  5. This is the scene in my back garden taken just a few minutes ago. Note the metal private property sign in the garden to the left of the trampoline. The wind has ripped the sign clean off the wall next to the wheelie bin in the top left of the picture and launched it unceremoniously over the fence into our garden! I am just glad none of us were hit by it good.gif

It's still snowing here although we appear to be having a respite from the deluge we had this morning and it's now very windy indeed. The strongest winds are expected between 3pm and 6pm this afternoon so time to batten down the hatches.

  6. Put some pictures up later Fitzwis if you get a chance please. clapping.gif

Goes without saying. I think your island may well be making the headlines later on today. A proper snowfest for your shores. drinks.gif

Yes, I would say we have an outside chance of a few more snowflakes to add to yesterdays snizzle. I don't expect anything other than that though, to be fair.

Will do and yeah, a snowfest indeed. Many of our roads are now becoming treacherous and almost all of our public transport has stopped.

  7. Nothing Springlike for at least a week I'm afraid and maybe even further out than that.

Hopefully get to see some more sun eventually which will please a lot of people who are downbeat about missing the snowy action.

For this region, good places for some snowfall of any consequence today remain Southern Dorset, most of Hampshire and potentially into parts of East Wiltshire as the day wears on.

and of course the Channel Islands drinks.gif

  8. Stay safe....

Thank you coffee lover :) We (the family) are all safe indoors and well stocked up with essentials. The littleuns are keen to go out and play but with a wind chill of -8 and a blizzard incoming, this won't be happening today. No doubt the schools will be closed tomorrow (as well as today) when the forecast is set to improve so they will have plenty of time to play out in it then good.gif

  9. Think it's all gone broadly to plan with the extreme south coast the only area to see anything other than a flurry.

Dartmoor and Cornwall are probably the places that have lost out a little, with the forecast over-suggestive of snowfall there.

Otherwise I continue to maintain that the best place in our region for anything today (and even there its nothing more than decent light snow) wil be the Southampton/Portsmouth and Isle of Wight area.

Any reports from the Channel Islands? They were one area forecast to get something significant?

It's been snowing moderately here for the last hour and a half with some heavier bursts mixed in and with plenty more to come looking at our Jersey Met radar:
