  1. The snow has picked up a bit here in the last 45 mins or so. Lamp post watching has been at its most mesmerising, especially as I've had a few beers! Met Office are now forecasting heavy snow here at 3am whereas before it was showing light snow. Nice upgrade that, but I can see myself dropping off before then.
  2. There's definitely some heavier snow headed our way judging by the radar. Just a question of how heavy. I can deal with that. It's not too bad out there at the moment, in truth. Coming down quite nicely in fact, and not even remotely sleety. Not much has settled so far though.
  3. Similar story here. But great to hear the band is intensifying as it pivots. Indeed, the radar picks this up very well. The night is still young!
  4. Birmingham and the surrounding area is currently the place to be according to the radar. Good night ahead for you. Enjoy it.
  5. Worryingly though that heavier precipitation just north of Oxford appears to be weakening before it gets here, from what I can make out on Radar Today.
  6. Just seen the forecast on BBC News. Northants looks to be in the sweet spot for once! Many many hours of snow ahead if that is right, stubbornly clinging on here as it fades away all around us. Just need it to pep up a bit now for this to get really interesting.
  7. Missed what was said about tonight by a few seconds. Deakin already ramping up the return of milder weather later in the week.
  8. Only light snow here at the moment, but going by the forecast tonight could provide the deepest snowfall here in at least a couple of years. Looking at the radar, some heavier snow is showing just north of Oxford and is heading this way!!
  9. Interesting forecast for my area this evening! Hope it comes off. Temperature is currently way too high at 4C, though.
  10. But you guys are great. Hopefully the next cold spell won't be far away and it'll deliver something a bit more memorable.
  11. Absolutely lashing it down with rain. Typical. Words can't describe how annoyed this makes me after days and days of cold but nothing more than light stuff coming across us. Only when the milder air moves in do we become a hot spot for precipitation. I don't know why I bother sometimes, the weather will do what it wants and it's scarcely what I want.
  12. Sleet, rain, and back to sleet here. What a truly crappy breakdown this has been. I honestly thought the cold had been entrenched for so long that we were practically guaranteed a snowy breakdown? How wrong I was. This has been a beyond awful 'event' and having done so well up to now the Met Office and the BBC got it badly wrong for this area.
  13. Hope it doesn't turn to rain on the back edge which looks likely. I just want to enjoy some heavy snowfall before this cold spell is over. All I've seen here is light snow flurries, which is all well and good, but... I'm a greedy sod. There, I said it.
  14. Have you lot seen what the 12z is showing for Saturday? Probably won't come off, but that's what I call a heavy snowfall !
  15. Me too. 7-8cm of snow here from this event if the NAE is correct. I'd happily take that as I was thinking more along the lines of 3-4cm yesterday. Anyway, I guess we're at the point now where it's time to ditch the models and move on to radars etc. It's not as if the models nailed today anyway so expect the unexpected !
  16. 18z GFS is rolling out. Slight upgrades for Northants in terms of snow intensity early tomorrow afternoon: http://cdn.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20130117/18/18/prectypeuktopo.png
  17. Definitely magical to have an unexpected snowfall like this, even if it is mostly light. Met Office called it right for this area, but GFS missed the snow completely.
  18. Wow, if I lived somewhere in the south-west corner I'd probably have creamed my pants at the 12z! Sorry for the crude remark, but I don't know how else to put it. About as good as it could possibly get for them. Nice to see the Mon/Tues event upgrade for us though. Not going to be a classic here in the East Mids but we should still see some heavy snowfalls over the coming days.
  19. Looking through the ensembles, quite a range in possibilities. I'll take P7 as best case scenario for Northants...........
  20. Pfft, I'm sending this run straight to the bin. It can't possibly be THAT dire for us in terms of snow prospects. That said, it's clearly not going to be a classic either.
  21. Ensembles offer some hope. 18z operational is probably overly pessimistic for Northants as far as Friday's event goes, the mean and control show more precipitation here. On the negative side, it was an outlier for Monday. I'm just going to focus on the lovely yellow line even though its chances of coming off are incredibly tiny, as it shows me what I want to see... http://cdn.nwstatic....amptonshire.png
  22. To be honest, I've been quite disappointed by this event. Nice to see some snow of course, but it's the ultra slushy stuff and not a lot of it. I dunno what it's going to take to get a substantial fall here again, even 3 inches seems a big ask nowadays.
  23. Wow, that'll teach me for having a lie-in on my day off. I thought the main event wasn't until this afternoon but we look to have done very well this morning !!
  24. Finally, some snow in the forecast! To celebrate, I have come out of my long spring/summer/autumn hibernation. In even better news, as luck would have it I'm off work Mon and Tues so I can follow this one every step of the way. Hope it's not a disappointment, but I like what I'm seeing so far.
  25. We had a great storm here in the past half hour with torrential rain, sheet lightning and violent thunder. Prior to this main event there was also a weaker storm earlier in the day at around 4pm.
