  1. Great storm in Northampton area past 20 minutes. Torrential rain, sheet lightning, violent thunder. Still ongoing.
  2. Heavy rain shower accompanied by thunder in Northants.
  3. So winter ends tomorrow? That's disappointing to hear. I should take up a less frustrating hobby like, I dunno, meditation or something.
  4. Temperatures up to 7C. Snow melt as you'd expect has rapidly accelerated under these conditions. Only patches now survive.
  5. Nice one! Enjoy. I'd love to stay up to see what happens here but work beckons at 7am so I'm off to bed. Good luck for the rest of the night folks.
  6. Measured 4.5cm fresh lying snow as of 2330GMT. That's the minimum depth as it's more like double that in places where there was existing snowcover from Saturday's event. Pic attached. Great night! That band over Lincs well worth watching as it is STILL intensifying.
  7. Interestingly there is still some snow coming in off the North Sea! And it seems to be bucking the trend this lot by intensifying over Lincs. Any thoughts on this?
  8. It is but I wouldn't read too much into it at this stage. If you look on the ensembles there is serious spread beyond day 5. I think the 18z will turn out to be one of the mildest solutions.
  9. Snow is varying in intensity from light to moderate and currently back to light again. The precipitation to our north is definitely weakening before it gets here unfortunately, but I'm confident at least of another hour of two of snow here. We've been very lucky tonight so can't complain! Gritter has just been along my road.
  10. The supercomputers weren't so super this time. I guess they couldn't use the graphics pre-loaded for earlier due to how wrong they are.
  11. I think not, that is perfection right there!
  12. Haha! Good man. I keep running back and forth. Radar looks juicy especially if that heavier stuff to our north can hold it together just a bit longer without weakening.
  13. Where have the Northants posters gone? Surprised there's not more excitement at what's showing on the radar. It looks to me as though there's quite a bit of snow with our name on it over the next few hours, and heavy snow too!
  14. Turning into a good little event this! Measured 3cm fresh snowfall at 2130GMT and it's still coming down nicely. This is also settling on top of existing snow in places so depth varies. Snow intensity is currently moderate, and if the radar is to be believed should increase to heavy shortly.
  15. When not lampost watching, my eyes are fixed firmly on the radar and those brighter echoes showing up to our north-east. Oh yes, come to daddy! Hopefully it doesn't just miss here to our east but possible. Rushden looks certain to benefit.
  16. Same. We could do with it starting to back west now otherwise we will miss out later. The track of this has been totally different to what was forecast so far.
  17. Hi. It's been snowing lightly for about 45 minutes now. A fresh layer of snow is forming on all surfaces. Radar looks a lot better than I was expecting with the band further south and east than was forecast by the models. Northants should see some heavier snow over the course of the evening.
  18. TEITS is making the point on the other thread that at the moment the high-res NAE model does not match up with what we are actually seeing on the radar. Apparently it's further east than it should be. And that is one straw I will go to bed clutching. There could be more twists yet to get more of us involved. Night all.
  19. Yeah, that is true. But I agree with you that the NMM is probably too slow at turning it to snow and that could be significant.
  20. Here is what the NMM is showing for 0600 Friday. All the while the snow line is backing further and further west and we see an intensification of the precipitation. Heavy snow for many parts of central, southern and western England, as well as parts of Wales eventually.
  21. Except it now has support from the NMM. Worth noting as well that the NMM intensifies the rain/sleet/snow significantly through the West Midlands, South Wales, Central Southern England and SW England on Friday morning. There could be some very big falls locally going by this output.
  22. Wow, the NMM really ups the intensity of the rain/sleet/snow Friday morning across the West Midlands. 15cm could easily be achieved in some areas if it comes off like that and it's mostly snow. Definitely a downgrade for the south east Midlands tonight, it's all too far west now. Oh well.
  23. I agree about it possibly being a rain to snow event in the west, which is why what the UKMO are saying surprises me. If we take Birmingham as an example, the GFS/NMM forecast 0% potential for snow until 0600 Friday. From there on in this percentage increases as various factors become more favourable for snow.
  24. A lot of confusion about this upcoming event now given that map the UKMO has issued. Surprised they think 'West is Best' as it doesn't really tally with the output we are seeing. Oh well, as long as we are part of this one as it looks like we will be then I'm happy. GFS/NMM look great as it stands for a fresh 4-8cm here.
  25. Very nice 06z for Northants. A pleasant surprise for me when I logged on this morning. Obviously some changes to come yet but so far so good and looks like snow all the way for here IF it stays like this.
