  1. Just had a look over this morning's radar. A fair amount of mod/heavy rain crossed right over your square during those times. So yep, I'm pretty confident that one should be a winner for you!
  2. I have just won a tenner for the third day in a row! It's not a con at all. It's being done in conjunction with Met Office data. If you don't want to take part because you're worried the crisps will make you fat, fair enough, but don't spoil the fun for the rest of us. The promotion is completely legitimate and to their credit is being extremely well run by Walkers.
  3. I got three predictor plays from one multipack. Can't remember how big the multipack was but it said triple chances on the packaging. Also from one single packet I received 2 predictor plays the other day, although generally you only get one for these. And you also get a free predictor play by completing their survey. (very quick to do) But yes generally we're just buying loads of crisps!
  4. Another win yesterday. Great stuff, I'm loving this game! Looking at the radar my pick for today doesn't look bad either with a steady stream of showers coming in off the North Sea to affect E. Norfolk this morning, often directly over my spot! Fingers crossed - three in a row would be super. In the meantime I have just made my punt for Saturday. This time I've gone for somewhere closer to home. But on Saturday there are lots of options with this front sweeping through the country Saturday daytime. Timing is a bit uncertain though so no guarantees, but definitely plenty of rain about.
  5. Yes! My square won yesterday. Most of Scotland is blue on Monday's map so it looks like there were a load of winners.
  6. A well explained LRF. Things look finely balanced right now with some factors working in our favour and some against us. But at least the experts don't think it will be a total write off. Winter 07/08 was a hugely disappointing affair and not one I wish to see repeated.
  7. Yet again I was one square away from a winning grid spot with my prediction for Sunday. This time I went for a spot in NW Scotland near Achallander along the A82. A square to the top left of mine would have been a hit! My prediction for today was again in the north-west. This time on the Sound of Sleat opposite Isle of Skye. Watching the radar this morning there were frequent outbreaks of rain moving through the area so I've got my fingers crossed for this one! Tomorrow I've gone for a spot in N. Wales and Wednesday E. Norfolk.
  8. My first stab at this on the N Norfolk coast yesterday near Hunstanton didn't pay out. But a square to the very left of mine did. Gutted! Fun game though. I will be playing daily from now on. (rain dependent)
  9. Ahh, just a generic response back about the new weather contract. How irritating.
  10. Just sent a stonking e-mail to the Met Office, with a tweaked version on the way to the BBC shortly. It's been "in development" for days, but I finally got round to finalising it this arvo and I'm well proud of the finished version, even if I do say so myself! I hope they actually read it and reply, and don't just send me a generic response back, else I won't be amused. Please guys, if you haven't already done so, take the time to write to them about this and tell them what you think about the decision to remove Rob from the TV forecasts. Joining a Facebook campaign is all well and good, but the most effective way of making your voice heard is through the power of speech. (including written) Never underestimate that.
  11. No harm in e-mailing the BBC as well. They might not have made the decision themselves but it's the BBC that Mr. McElwee appears on and if they get a large volume of correspondence on it then they might intervene.
  12. The thread can't be that unkind. Let's remember the core purpose of setting it up was in support of a Meto Forecaster.
  13. Well done! Sterling work. Seems I was a bit late to the party here.
  14. If Netweather could get him on board somehow it would be a massive coup for this site.
  15. To be fair to Harry I think he made those remarks in the heat of the moment. I can't speak for him obviously but I doubt in reality he harbors any particular ill feeling to the forecasters mentioned. It is fair to say however that Rob is extremely well liked by us enthusiasts and in many people's view few if any of the other national forecasters can hold a candle to him. That's why people feel so strongly about this, but it is perhaps wrong to get into the nasty business of "x" or "y" should have gone instead. I think, quite evidently, as Gavin pointed out, it's the end of an era as he is the longest serving forecaster there. It just amazes me really that after nearly 20 years as a BBC forecaster Rob is being treated like this. Clearly he is still at the top of his game, as is made clear by the fact he remains very popular with viewers who hold him in as high regard now as they did all those years ago. It is for those reasons that contrary to the beliefs of the Met Office, this move does not place him in a role that "best fits [his] individual skills and strengths" as his excellent presenting skills will be wasted in that capacity. I'll fire off a couple of strongly worded e-mails later to both the BBC and the Met Office. I suspect the most I will get is a generic response back, but it will feel good letting off some steam and vocalising my concerns about this in the proper way.
  16. How long ago was that? Jim gave the local forecast on Radio Northampton just the other morning and he often pops up on Look East.
  17. A lot of love for Rob on the Daily Mail comments section. And that's saying something because they are a notoriously miserable bunch generally! I've just spent a good few minutes giving the "thumbs up" to all the pro-Rob messages. Someone hit the nail on the head when they spoke about how passionate he is about the weather. That's what sets him apart from the rest and makes him so brilliant to watch. He's like one of us, only a million times more knowledgable. (pro forecasters on here excluded) I really hope something can be done to keep Rob on our screens but I fear the BBC have already made their minds up on this WITHOUT consulting the viewers!
  18. How many members? I can't view. I'm worried it won't have as much impact as previous campaigns. How many did the successful 6Music one get?
  19. You get the sense there is more at stake here. Not just the legend that is McElwee remaining on our screens, but also the continuation of quality in-vision forecasts with weather professionals. Sky have all but ditched these apart from breakfast, ITV weather is a blink and you'll miss it affair and now the BBC is moving in a similar direction with these cuts. Not a good year for TV forecasts. Weather as far as I'm concerned is in the same category as news and as such should be the last department to be affected by any BBC cost cutting.
  20. Wow. What an absolutely LUDICROUS decision by the BBC. Rob is by far the best forecaster on the box. His take is always on the money and delivery second to none. I am absolutely furious to learn that they are shunting him to a back room role. What an unbelievable waste of his talents! Dan Corbett better? Not a chance. He relies on silly catchphrases to make the weather interesting, whereas with Rob it just is.
  21. Friday/Saturday could be quite promising for this looking at the latest charts. I'll probably make my first punt tomorrow.
  22. Should have gone south coast of England. Rob M on late forecast said a chance of some heavy stuff down there with thunder.
  23. Did the Met Office tip off Walkers that a dry October was expected? Still, a good idea for a promotion.
  24. Long range CFS looking a lot more promising since the last time I looked. Below average Dec, Jan, Feb? Yes please! http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/people/wwang/cfs_fcst/images2/euT2mMonNorm.gif
  25. Ooh, fantastic photo. Really got me in the mood for (a hopefully snow packed) winter.
