  1. Lightning is starting to kick off here in Meopham
  2. After the near misses this winter (where we were either too far west or two far east), it's good to be in the direct line of fire for once! Approx 7cm in the last 12 hours.
  3. I'm impressed you braved Wrotham Road (A227). I left work at six and at Victoria it was clear skies and no snow. The wife and I were surprised to arrive at Meopham and the roads were gridlocked with a good 7cm of snow. You know it's a bad sign when the police go past, lights flashing, but only at 10 mph!
  4. Potential for a yellow warning for Friday when it comes into the five-day time range? http://meteoalerte.com/france/prev/vigilance.php?ens=ncep_geps&run=00&map=SN&day=7〈=fr&area=fr
  5. Temperature has plummeted. Working from home today so I thought it would be possible to go for a run (too dark and slippy the last few evenings) and any health benefits I got from my jogging were outweighed by the hypothermia!
  6. Synoptics - 8/10 - the recent ones have been fascinating but I can't forget the zonal muck that formed part of this winter Snow - 4/10 - Last Friday gave us less than 2cm and Sunday's, though constant, was never large flakes Frosts - 4/10 - there haven't been many recently but the run-up to Christmas during the 'failed beast' gave some good hoar frosts Total = 16/30 = 5.33/10
  7. 2.6 degC and it's starting to thaw quite quickly. TBH that's a good thing as I can't go running at the moment for fear of breaking my neck!
  8. Some pictures from a stroll around Meopham earlier. We're now up to 8.5cm, seems the precipitation has decided to finish on a high
  9. 5-6cm here so far, so not too bad. I'm not sure if the snow has been weaker here or if we're just in a radar blind spot (heavy patches seem to dry up over here and then reform once they're past).
  10. 12Z NMM showing approx 3cm of snow for NW Kent on Sunday morning. Given its performance was superior to NAE/GFS today I think the fact it's going for Sunday snow is very welcome to those of us that missed out on the main snow today.
  11. Hi Dan, Could you (or others) explain the relevance of the vorticity chart. I remember what vorticity is (thanks to an Aerodynamics degree) but am not sure of its meteorological relevance? Any explanation gratefully received!
  12. Just done the first tape measure check... a disappointing 1.5cm. Clearly, the NMM has won for snow predictions for Meopham. GFS had me down for 8cm, NAE for 7cm, NMM for 2.5cm. On the plus point, should get another cm or so overnight and then it's all to play for on Sunday...
  13. Just been for a run and can confirm the wind chill (-9 here) is very very bad!
  14. Liam Dutton still thinks we'll get snow: Liam Dutton â€@liamdutton Having looked at latest info closely, I think even S coast of Eng EAST of Isle of Portland could see 4-6 hours of snow on Friday. #uksnow
  15. Looking at the 18Z NMM for 18.00 on Friday, it would appear that the front is slightly to the west of that shown by the NAE for the same period of time. However, all is not lost - we can't see the later runs so it's far too early to be writing off this episode. Let's see what the 0Z runs show.
  16. The most interesting thing about the Met Office's warning is the impact matrix, which shows probability in the lowest section and impact in the highest, hence the Yellow Warning. That would indicate that, if the probability increases, we could end up with an upgrade to a full Red Warning in due course.
  17. According to the other thread, Met Office are going to have another try today. Nothing guaranteed though. Using the 'Euro' option on the radar shows very light snow coming in off the Thames Estuary, which it was a bit more high-res though!
  18. Maybe they're up at the Vigo end, that's got a good additional 100m in altitude. But we've had no precipitation so far. Am about to go and pick up the wife so hopefully I'll see some on my travels!
  19. Met Office radar is now showing a 'gap' over much of Kent so one of their radars must be down. What a time to choose to fail!
  20. I was just wondering the same - people here reporting snow but nothing on the radar
  21. http://twitter.com/#!/GrittingKent/status/289840217911861249 The Kent fritters have just posted this pic of forecast minimum temps for the next days, looks cold!
  22. Definite streamer potential for Sunday based on the NMM. This will be down to window-based nowcasting though...
  23. Oh, and I totally concur with the adverts recommending the Netweather radar subscription. This winter I treated myself to 6 months of Netweather Lite, and for those of you feeling flush I can highly highly recommend the NMM model that comes with that.
