    I realised I’ve neglected looking at the satellite pics up until now. It allows you to get an idea of where storms may be forming well before they appear on radar.

  2. Cracking pics of that funnel/tornado from North Yorkshire. One thing I find odd is how people really like to emphasise between a funnel and tornado like there’s something fundamentally different. I get they can be formed by different mechanisms but the only real difference is one is on the ground. Also people writing it off as a funnnel because the condensation isn’t on the ground! 

    Anyway we had a storm pass to my west about an hour ago. Once again more than I expected to see like the other day.

    The Met Office and BBC forecasts never, ever mention thunderstorms to the extent you'd expect them to. The only time they do is if there is a warning for them out, otherwise it's just "heavy rain showers" with thunder/lightning being almost an afterthought, if mentioned at all.

    The metoffice do seem to avoid using the word thunderstorm unless theres a really certain risk. Maybe they avoid getting people too excited when thing are so uncertain.
