Temps down here now but heavy rain. Liking that more showers are forming out in the North Sea

That it is but I am sure the N Sea will finally pay us its dues this winter: it's overdue!
A nice A380 over the tC in your avatar
Thank you, its my two obsessions summed up in one picture.
It certainly is overdue. Interesting week to come

3.7°C here now, still with 99% humidity - grrrr.... Some patches of green have been appearing over Hull and N Lincs on the NW Radar in the last hour or so in association with the heavier bursts of precipitation. Nothing sleety here yet today.
Its going to be a slow burn isn't it? Note the heavy showers forming out in the north sea for a bit later on though.

Not sure which Radar you are using but I was told a few years ago, and reminded this year, that the Radar colours are not an actual representation of what is happening. It’s a combination of ppn as seen by Radar and combined with input from models such as temps, dewpoints and other factors to predict where it will be rain, sleet or snow. I assume this is still the case...
This info needs to be pinned somewhere. Save the endless, 'it shows snow but its still raining over me' posts

Noticed that the Arome (using windy.com) is showing precip persisting a little later on well past midnight.

Well its turned a bit grim here in Hull, because of the weather I mean. I cant see us getting anything meaningful this close to the coast later on this evening. Hoping for a bit of a dry slot before any snow showers overnight really.
-
I’m working on my philosophy of being pessimistic, that way things always turn out better than expected.
It’s going to be an interesting week anyway. Monday booked off work too so very good timing.

Finding ourselves slap bang under a dry spot. The moaning southerners have stolen our snow after crying about it not being south enough last week. All those tears must have increased the moisture levels.
Fingers crossed guys and gals we see something. Maybe have to rely on the streamer set up possibilities
A month ago I would have been one of those southerners! The weather always seemed frustrating down there, snow always North of the m4 etc. My only conclusion is that I’ve brought the snow shield with me. Sorry guys.

Beeb forecast looks kak. All the concentration for the far SE. The graphics are dreadful it showed nothing till Monday which is totally against most other output.
Maybe there is a bit of a question about how many showers we will see on Sunday butI wouldn't worry too much. The BBC graphics never show showers properly.

You'll have to englighten me here?
Surely careering the Atlantic low pressure system into the existing Easterly cold air would provide a nationwide snow event, rather than sending it to the North of France to retain us in an Easterly which is less likely to provide a nationwide snow event?
You have to remember that a low like that would bring typical Atlantic weather to the UK as the low pressure brings a milder air mass with it. Yes you might get a transient snow event at first but typical wet, windy weather would follow. We absolutely don't want this to happen if the cold weather is to stay.

Why do people pay more attention to the older version of the GFS than the newer version? Surely the newer version verifies better. A complete waste of money otherwise!
Not necessarily, it’s a parallel for a reason.
Looks like the drama continues for the rest of today!

Few showers showing up off the North Sea starting to show. Metoffice showing a few around this evening also

Not looking good here, although there are some 'pink' returns over The Wolds to the west. Temp now up to 2.0°C with a DP of 1.8°C. More hope than expectation overnight but, as they say, it's the hope that kills!
The precipitation type on the radar is based on mode data, it’s not live. That’s why it will change all of a sudden or just be wrong.
Just got light rain in Hull like we’ve had for the past 24 hours.

Makes @Cheese Rice's post all the more interesting then
With the snow in W York’s the other week the radar showed it all as sleet. Take it with a pinch of salt.

Colder air is mixing quicker I think looking at the radar which is moving from rain to sleet out east
The radar precip type is based on model data rather than real time.

Sounds like something icy is falling from the sky here. The odd flake mixed in too.

Just rain here outside of Hull its even snowing in Blackpool though not settling dunno what we have to do these days to get decent snow here. Some fantastic pics in here though well done to people who have got some of the white stuff.
It’s been a poor cold spell for our neck of the woods hasn’t it? Tiniest sprinkle of snow on Christmas morning and just rain since

This is one of the weirdest looking model runs yet. Interesting to notice the 850’s being affecting by the Foehn effect downwind of the Pyrenees.

Rain has actually turned to snow here but not after wetting everything first!
