  1. An amazing lightning storm here in Aldershot, not particularly heavy rain but frequent and quite intense lightning. I guess these storms are pretty elevated as thunder is fairly muted considering how close the lightning is. This is up there with the long remembered May 2018 London storms!
  2. Just continuous lightning here from east to west to my south with the odd very close and huge flashes. Pretty spectacular!
  3. Just been watching the storm to the south of Guildford flash away as it moved north north east, very frequent lightning and muted thunder, but strangely went from lightning every 8-10 seconds to nothing in an instant. Like someone just turned it off. Now watching new flashes directly south getting closer.
  4. Disappointingly been a rather cloudy day here with the blue sky never far away although the warmer temperature is very welcome. Off to the south of France tomorrow and the forecast has gone from wall to wall sunshine to thunderstorms all next week. Looks like we’ll be in the unsettled bit between the cooler north and the heat in Spain
  5. Doesn’t seem anywhere near as windy here as the previous windy Saturdays last month despite this being a named “storm”. Currently quite calm here. Still, it’s yet another utterly atrocious weekend day for a summer month, very wet early and again this afternoon with a rumble of thunder. Sunshine measurable in minutes (about 3) and chilly. With almost no sun all week the house is really quite cool, more like March than August
  6. Another miserable wet and cool afternoon to cap off a rotten summer month, certainly one of the worst in recent years. Just one “hot” day on the 7th, the rest average at best. Way too many cloudy, wet and windy days for high summer the worst of them alway falling at weekends.
  7. After a reasonable week, today surely is about as grim as it gets for late July in southern England. Not even 16c, zero sun all day, windy and rain or drizzle continuously from about 11am. And based on current forecasts looks like there’s no sign at all of anything summery on the horizon. June is a distant memory now .
  8. My house is old and draughty and doesn’t retain warmth at all, the upstairs south facing bedroom peaked around 19 today which to me feels cool enough for a sweater and is depressing for mid summer.
  9. A thoroughly miserable autumnal evening, really grim for mid-July. Winds easing a touch now but has been very gusty all afternoon. Such an odd summer, July has swapped with June. House starting to feel distinctly cool now after several cloudy cool days. Grim
  10. Text forecast from the Metoffice for tomorrow seems to be the complete opposite of the hourly icon forecast. Text forecast suggests rain arriving overnight cleaning during the day whereas the icons have a dry night and rain arriving around midday with a wet afternoon. Either way it’s the first time we’ve had heavy rain symbol in the forecast locally for a very long time. Hoping for some decent rain that does a bit more than just dampen the ground as it’s dry as a bone here.
  11. Latest forecasts don’t look so promising now for a spell of heavy rain here in the early hours of tomorrow, all looks to have shifted quite a bit west. Just can’t catch a break, as after that it’s looking pretty much dry again for the foreseeable
  12. Once again we’ve completely missed out on any decent rainfall here. Just enough to wet the ground. Too far south again for any of the storms, and the rain coming up from the south has largely fizzled out by the time it reached there. Holding out for Tuesday now
  13. We were so close to the storms could smell the petrichor but other than almost continuous rumbling thunder all we got here was a few spits of rain, so frustrating as garden is crying out for a good soaking. A triangle from Aldershot to Woking and down to Guildford somehow managed to have the storms go completely around us.
  14. We’ve got that claggy cloudy post storm sort of morning, without having had the storms . Nice comfortable temperature though.
  15. Feeling hot here this afternoon. Cloud is bubbling up overhead but I’ve got a decent view to the south from the bedroom window and we’re right on the edge of it, quite a distinct line where the skies are clear to the south, so I suspect any storms developing will be to the north of us so warning area seems spot on at the moment,
  16. Looked like it was brightening up earlier than yesterday but the cloud has filled back in and looks very stubborn. Decidedly cool and breezy again in that chilly wind. Thank goodness this tedious weather pattern is on its way out. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I’m looking forward to the increase in temps and humidity later this week, should finally feel warm in the shade and stay warmer into the evenings instead of the temperature dropping like a stone at 6pm. Hopefully some thunderstorms to liven it up too (and water the garden)
  17. That temperature certainly dropped once the cloud rolled in around 5 o clock. Feel sorry for those further north and east stuck under it all day. Otherwise it’s been another pleasant in the sun kind of day here. The weather outlook is looking decidedly boring - average temperatures at best and just variable amounts of cloud. Nice enough but a bit of a snooze fest and could really do with some rain now - both waterbutts in the garden already empty. The anticipated warmer and wetter plume type pattern seems to get pushed further into June.
  18. MetOffice forecast completely wrong...warm spells of sunshine "especially in the east". Here in central London it's almost 100% cloud cover, cool with a nagging and chilly NE breeze. Absolute grot.
  19. We were right on the edge of the clearance yesterday so lucked out, just. Hopefully you saw the sun today, probably been the nicest day of the year so far here.
  20. Might be a bit better today, it’s 10 am and already brighter here than this time yesterday, cloud seems to be thinning more readily.
  21. Absolutely 100% the same and this year especially have found it really affecting my mood quite frequently. The default 10-12C completely overcast nothing days are just miserable and depressing. It’s mid May and you can literally count on one hand the number of good weather days we’ve had so far this spring, and absolutely zero days I would consider genuinely warm and can’t recall a single day with sun all day. Today is supposed to be a better day, and yet it’s lunchtime and still overcast and chilly. Seriously frustrating.
  22. Another thoroughly miserable day in this utterly wretched spring . As chilly, gloomy and depressing as a November afternoon and it feels like this has been the default weather most of the last 3 months. Working from home and still having to wear thermal layers and socks with a blanket as I did in January, the total lack of warmth this year means the house is still chilly and our boiler is currently being replaced so can’t even put the heating on! Praying the sun comes out readily tomorrow as often these forecasts of cloud clearing can be ruined by stubborn cloud until late afternoon. A very frustrating period of weather.
  23. Yep, got quite heavy now suddenly, can almost hear the garden breathing a sigh of relief!
  24. Just started raining here in Surbiton, getting very dark. Doesn’t look too exciting at the moment though. The smell is amazing !
