  9. Hey Pat, can I tease you into to coming to Bournemouth before November, as RyanAir stops flying their Boeing 737-800 then for the winter. Just think pictures of aircraft. Mmmmmm mmmmm. Sod the summer storms and French Plumes let's grow up and do something different.

  12. Nice Job Pat, is it as good as the Canon XL H1S HD, I ordered this week? Cant find the specs on yours on the web to compare.
  13. So....looking out the outlook charts and synopsis, I have no reason to think I'll be leaving the No Storms club anytime in the near future. Unless of course somebody can stir up something good for Dorset

  17. Pat Katla, is an interesting beast! Like most volcanoes, they squeak and make some noise pre to eruption time, and yet Katla, because of it's ice dome is that bit different and seasonal variations in the dome area have their effect. Of course should Katla decide it's time to blow after the winter snows have really set in then we will have more to contend with. It's caldera is different to Eyja, which was initially a split in a fault, it's second eruption was more volcanic in it's smaller cone caldera. Katla will spew a phenominal amount of dust and ash, again as the ice sinks into the rising magma it will possibly cause the tephra dust similar to Eyja, I think it's called phreatomagmatic. It's just so much bigger in size, so would expect much more of a dynamic eruption. Hold on for the ride......
  18. I am stunned It rained this morning, unbelieveable! So a nice 1.5mm of the heavenly dew has fallen, and now it's partly cloudy. Temp 15.3°C 1009.1 mb steady Wind SW 3.8mph Now watching to the west and the track of this small low as it heads our way, maybe some rain, who knows
  19. I changed from a Canon 350 D to a 500D this year, complete with standard 18-55mm lens. Also have a Sigma 10-200 wide angle, along with a SIGMA 50-200 and a Sigma 75-300c/w macro lens. Tripod wise nothing famously good just a tripod for now. Focus for me is filters, getting my Circ Polarizers and graduated filters sorted out. Oh forgot also have a lightning trigger, very useful should the UK ever see a storm again!! Have to admit I much prefer the 500D over the 350D, it's a really good piece of kit. Then it's over to sorting out the video camera, so I can keep up with my mate Pat Carter, the Gloucester Guitar King in waiting
  20. Currently 24C 1011mb Wind WSW 5.6mph Partly cloudy although over the channel this morning I have seen some fog rolling around, but it appears the cloud base is a lot thinner out there.
  21. Down here, the YoY (Year on Year) average rainfall is now at a deficit of 190mm. That's 7.5" in old money! Which confirms it has been very dry down here.
  22. Right, that's nailed it then, from Hants through to Oxfords. Yah could have included Dorset, but then again I think we both know it ain't gonna happen down here. Again one of those times you wished you lived somewhere else. No snow in the winter of '09, now no storms in the summer of '10. What the heck did I do to upset the weather gods?
  23. Nah, taint nowt to do with being frightened of an impending downpour. Usually see flying ants, once the warmer air is around, generating thermals for them to take to the air and spread over far distances. However, the conditions usually have to be right, typically around 25C, and with not much air movement, purely reliant upon the thermals and not wind to depart, as it's easier to take off in those conditions. It's interesting as here they have been preparing for the last 3-4 days, but as it was so windy they stayed close to the ant domains. Today the wind fell away, the heat wacked nicely to around 25C and orf they jolly well went.
  24. Paul Mmmm mmm, it sounds really great, unfortunately not in my bank balance for this year or next, as I need to bag more tornadic stuff to satisfy that need first. But then, the Arizona trip hits top of my list, as a would most definitely do. Nice idea, just cant do two US trips in one year. Put my name down as a definite for 2012, in fact that would be me and missus.
  25. Or maybe not if your on the coast, as in my case it is all coming in from the wrong direction for me
