  1. From the radar it looks like the smallest of showers unfortunately! There appeared to be a band heading South but I think it made a violent change of direction and headed SE! Either that or fizzled out.
  2. No luck at all! In fact, that's a bit of a disgrace really! Hope you get home safely I normally work in Glasgow but need to go to the Edinburgh office tomorrow so hope the roads aren't too bad. Perhaps Ross B will have an update on the M 8 later.
  3. Dear God, why can my office never be closed due to the snow?!
  4. Exactly the point I was making Blitzen - tis frustrating! I always seem to get caught out by the 'Widespread icy roads' warning too They get your hopes up and then dash them! Hopefully you're right about the snow from up North. Fingers crossed for another fall later.
  5. This has been a fantastic cold spell so far but I must admit to being a little disappinted that, for my area at least, I'm yet to see a real dumping of snow. The snow on the 22nd was great but there wasn't that much really - just a few inches. Since then we've had a few coverings but nothing notable to my mind at least. Also rather frustrating to see areas in the South now being forecast with upwards of 15cms tonight (despite the fact we've been in a constant pool of cold weather for almost 3 weeks). I'm probably being greedy but would like to see one proper fall before this spell ends! I guess it's just the case that the North and East will always be favoured in these situations. Looking grand for the East if the current model output were to materialise.
  6. Boyd? Thanks but no thanks! He wasn't picked for a game when he wasn't getting regular football, whinged his greeting little face off about it and then ditched the national team when he might have been needed. We don't need players like that so I say good riddance! Sure, he's scoring goals for fun but it's very true what people say about him not doing it against the big teams. He's scored I think one or two goals against Celtic in all his games for Rangers...having said that are Celtic classed as a big team these days?! Anyway, sorry for very off topic rant but Boyd annoys me...mon' the snow!
  7. Yeah, I think waking up earlier seems like a better option! I think I'll do as you suggest and just relax and wait for the snowfest to start Would be nice to have another event like Tuesday's here but have absolutely no complaints so far with regards to this winter. I'm struggling to remember the last prolonged cold spell we had so this has been fantastic. You guys in the East seem to be well positioned so hopefully it continues for us all  Goodnight mate!
  8. Hey LS, thanks very much for that detailed reply - much appreciated! Well, as sorry as I would (kind of!) feel for snow starved folk in the South I certainly wouldn't be that upset if the frontal snow turned up here! From dipping back into the model thread I read that the GFS is suffering from data errors (although I wonder how much of that is hope VS reality). By the sounds of it the morning runs could prove quite crucial but either way it sounds like we have a good chance at more snow regardless of whether that low reaches us. As for the model thread, I can understand to an extent the bias shown but comments from Northern Britain (inc Northern England) posters such as yourself, CMD and Mondy seem to be ignored and swallowed up in a sea of Southern desperation. Having said that, there is the odd remark about our continuing cold spell but they are few and far between! Thanks again LS
  9. I'm afraid I don't have a clue how to read the models so please excuse my 'will it snow' type post. From venturing into the model thread, I understand that the GFS is showing the position of Tuesday's low to be further North than any other model (hence why Southerners are in uproar). So, the snow that is being talked about in this thread, does that relate to potential snow for parts of Scotland from that particluar low or snow from the trend in general? (Such as the showers mentioned by LS from the Easterly). Or is the potential for snow from all of the above! Sounds like that low could bring rather huge falls for somewhere... Cheers in advance for the help
  10. Heavy rain on the South side of Glasgow. With Ross also reporting rain but CMD getting snow then it looks like it could go either way depending on local conditions.
  11. I feel exactly the same. Was looking at the model thread there and seems to be a fair bit of rather heated debate going on between the normally more level headed and sensible members. They all seem to be arguing over who is to get the snow on Tuesday from the "second" cold spell while we're still enjoying the first with the threat of more snow Poor mutts!
  12. Just checked the online BBC forecast and some more persistant snow is meant to reach Western Scotland by mid-afternoon with another 5-10cms possible - he picked out Ayrshire in particular so best of luck for you guys there
  13. The showers don't look nearly as widespread in central areas as was forecast by the BBC this morning at which point it looked like we were in for some very regular showers/persistant snow...what a difference a few hours can make!
  14. Apologies if this has already been mentioned but has anyone noticed that the MO have reduced the risk from high to moderate for tomorrow? A heavy snow shower this morning raised my expectations for today but only a few spits of rain/sleet since then. Still plenty of time to go though
  15. Don't take this the wrong way Ross but I think I love you
  16. I very much agree with this. However, at times during the last cold spell I feel as though there could easily have been warnings for areas that didn't get them even on the MO website. I'm not entirely sure but you might be missing my point here. I'm certainly not accusing the MO of being bias just because Southern areas had warnings and lots of snow and us Northerners didn't. That would just be completely ridiculous! It's the fact that at times warnings were merited up here and yet no warnings were given because the MO were apparently too busy issuing them for the snow further South. In particular for the SE. All I mean is that it shouldn't only be one area that is focused on - the UK doesn't start and end with the SE corner.
  17. I've always enjoyed reading your posts TEITS but that is a rather insulting reply! Do you really think that the bulk of us complaining about the MO are only doing it because we didn't get as much snow as people in the South? How petty do you think we are! I won't go over old ground but other people have stated rather well how the MO have not forecast events in Northern Britain nearly as well as in the South. (Note how I say Northern Britain and not just Scotland). Of course we realise that there is a greater population in certain areas and so of course it will receive greater attention - from the media at least. But as everyone pays money which contributes to the running of the MO everyone is entitled to an accurate forecast and not just one area. As has already been mentioned, Shetland Coastie received no warnings last week despite almost being snowed in at work! Are you saying that just because particular areas are used to seeing more snow that they don't deserve warnings? It doesn't matter how far out of the way it is - the MO has an obligation to all of Britain and not just the South. To answer the question, no, I don't think Scotland needs its own MO as I agree with a lot of people that it would just be a waste of money and not a bill I would be happy to pay. If the MO was less focused on the South East in particular then I'm sure their forecasts would improve for the rest of Britain. Blizzardo summed up my own feelings extremely well on the first page.
  18. To just ryhme off information like that is rather impressive - either that or Google is your best friend Hearing this sort of thing certainly gives me a bit of hope for tonight. Thanks again for the info mate
  19. Thanks for that description, very helpful! Having read through the Polar Low thread though it doesn't look at all certain that this IS a polar low after all and might just be a normal low. Of course, even if that is the case, the track is still not certain so we shall see. But your absolutely right, I should be more greedy. To hell with you Easterners - give me my snow!
  20. At the moment it's forecast to move across the North and then down the East side so we'll miss out if that happens. We had a half decent fall Sunday though so I won't be greedy!
  21. Certainly had a mention in here but with England and Wales, particularly Southern England, preoccupied with their own snow it's not had a mention anywhere else as far as I can tell. Due to the unpredictable nature of this type of system perhaps that is why the MO haven't issued other warnings and are just being cautious? Let's hope so anyway as if things pan out right then there could be a real dumping
  22. Ho ho! Could that be a polar low after all?
  23. Nooooo! Please don't miss us Weegies 8cm per hour certainly sounds impressive!
  24. Yesiree, that would do very nicely Let's hope it stays on course. I'm happy with what we've had but it's not quite as exciting as down South!
