Personally, I feel like under "perfect" conditions we could hit 41C, maybe even 42C.
If I remember correctly, there were some forecasts going for possible max's of 42C in July 2022, but as you say the peak of the 850hPa arrived at the 'wrong time'?

Wade She'll box your ears for saying that!

*Stormforce~beka* What happened to all that lovely warmth you had this morning?!

Well, the sun did make an appearance briefly this afternoon, but now back to rather cloudy! At least it has been dry all day.
-
Jonnoramo87 Do you know what model is used for that?

What hte bloody hell is happening?! It's 16c and it's not even 11am??! ... There is hardly a cloud except some fluffy puffy wuffys. Have I been transported to another country over night?! ...
You had better not start moaning about it being too warm and sunny now!
Rather overcast here and wasn't 16C before 11am, in fact it's not 16C now!
In Absence of True Seasons I hope you're wearing sunglasses, your eyes will need time to adjust!

December 2013 was very mild but 2015 was a different ball game altogether and bordering on a warm month, as opposed to exceptionally mild!

WYorksWeather In that case I'm not going to enjoy summer one bit! That hot and humid week we had in August 2020 was dreadful and the worst I've ever known. I was relieved the weather turned unsettled and cool during the second half of the month!

Never had my heating on in May before ... It's on right now
Knowing the way things are, you won't need the heating on come December!

I wonder whether this summer might be consistently warm to hot (likely humid with very mild sea surface temperatures)
I hope not, that would be the worst scenario for me, hot and humid for long periods!
I will go as far to say that I would rather a 2007 washout! On the other hand, I would be reasonably happy with a 2018 redux, which for a large part wasn't too humid.

cheeky_monkey Interesting!
I suppose for summer prospects, perhaps it will come down to the strength of the La Nina we are going into? Some forecasts are going for a moderate event, whilst others are going for something stronger.

May is the new December
December 2015 perhaps!
Must admit though after a few warm/humid days, it is rather chilly and overcast today.

cheeky_monkey not sure we are looking at an abrupt transition to a strong Nina this year, so probably not?

Typically after a rather murky day, the skies are now clear!

Can't wait til September when summer comes!!!
It had better not!! That said, probably won't make any difference anyway!

LetItSnow! 2015 was the first to feature a heat spike. Apart from that, a very mediocre summer.

Not humid this evening like yesterday but not cool/cold like in some areas.

This year it needs to be, at a minimum, something like 1959. Ideally 1976, 1989, 2018 or 2022.
If only the weather gods cared or listened about what type of season people wanted (and this very much includes cold winter seekers, too)!
What are you going to do if we get a 2012 repeat?!

Who knows these days?! During the last 10 years we have had several heat spikes with the hottest day on record (at the time) achieved in July 2019 in what was otherwise not a particularly hot summer. Obviously that record fell in July 2022 in what was a genuinely hot summer but even then that came in the form of a heat spike.

Perhaps that's an improvement on it being autumnal or wintry - but then again perhaps it's not.
TBH (and this is just my personal preference) if it's going to be wet, I would rather it be of the cool nature and not humid like this evening.

It's enough to make you nostalgic for the 2010s! (which weren't great, but not this bad!)
Autumn to spring could well become 'the wet but mild season', whilst summer could be hot and dry moving forward? No one really knows just how climate change will affect our part of the world, except it will likely continue to warm!

Will 2024 have the new hottest day on record for the uk?
