  1. Looks to me like the last couple of GFS op runs would take December back into the 8s merely with near average conditions over the final few days, but still too early to be confident. Worth reiterating that in Scotland temperatures have been much closer to average throughout the month.
  2. June and July, cool, wet, miserable. Days at a time without sun in some cases http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/weather/maps/city August though, a big improvement. Much drier, spells of many bright days in a row, some sunny all day. 26C day last weekend. Reminds me of the summers of my childhood - 'nice for the schools going back'! Not a classic (not even as good as most Julys in recent years) but enough to somewhat redeem an otherwise miserable season.
  3. I think that means the anomaly needed to be 0.48 below average, not that the absolute temperature had to be -0.48C
  4. 4.6 please, bang on the 1961-90 average. It will have to be over -0.5c below average to avoid the warmest year on record.
  5. First half of month looks mild interspersed with average rather than cold as it did a few days ago. 7.7 please.
  6. A quick scan of the Areal series shows that prior to July 2006, Scotland's hottest ever month was August 1947 followed closely by the Augusts of 1995 and 1997. Scotland's hottest temperature (32.9C) was recorded on 9 August 2003, a day before the UK's hottest temp. So in terms of heat (if not sunshine hours) it has historically been quite a good month to us here, but not since 2003. In the 90s the weather always seemed to be warmest coming back from school holidays.
  7. I've noticed the trees starting to turn around here as well. Bizarre during 29C temperatures!
