South East & East Anglia Regional Discussion 17th March 2013 18:00>
fatyido replied to Snowangel-MK's topic in Regional
Just watched the latest 5.30 BBC NEWS24 forecast, and their graphics havent changed in terms of their 'snow line'. They still think areas north of Birmingham will be favoured for snow, with E.Anglia just seeing rain. :-( I suppose we will just have to wait and see...- 846 replies

Pathetic BBC forecast at 6.30 pm. Didnt want to say anything about about the front moving in from the SW. Certainly didnt want to move any graphics on past Thursday afternoon. Obviously not sure, and didnt want to comment on the snow line. ITV forecast for Anglia region, didnt even mention snow either. They just said wet Fri evening, alittle milder Sat, then colder again Sun. So is that it then. ? I think we are straw clutching again, and any snow will be much further north in the Midlands.- 846 replies

Very surprised to see flakes of snow today. We have had light sleet for most of the morning, but every now and then, we seem to get slightly more flakes mixed in. Dull, damp, temp. at 3.5c- 846 replies

Exactly. I agree the latest run of charts look promising - but people - please, hold the bus.We have been here countless times already this winter with 'epic looking charts', but do they verify ? Seldom. Im seeing it and liking it, but wait a few more days... -

Latest BBC forecast just said the rain moving in Thursday night will start to turn to snow. The snow will only effect Northern England and Scotland. They dont seem very confident about any snow south of the Wash - at the minute. !- 846 replies

Latest BBC lunchtime forecast is predicting that the frontal system moving in from the SW during Thurs night / Friday will just be of rain for this forum anyway. Their computer graphics showed snow from the Wash, northwards, and in situations like these, they are very rarely that far out. Maybe parts of Northamptonshire could well see alittle snow, but in general I think it will be a cold rain event for all of us.- 846 replies

Aliitle frustrated to say the least. Heavy snow reported in Northampton, and im in west Cambs, about 30 miles east of that. Sun it out here, and had a couple of light rain showers. Ah well, good luck to all those that see snow today....- 795 replies

Looking at the radar, nearly all the showers that are running down the coastline from the north sea, just fade away as soon as they hit the north norfolk coast. At this point, the showers dont look like they are going to penetrate inland.- 795 replies

Dry and cold here in Cambridgeshire, -2c and I dont expect anything more than the odd flake blowing around in the wind. Showers out to the north sea miss us here, as they run in through the Wash, just skirt the north of Peterborough and slide down into Northants. Disappointing yes, but well used to missing out with this kind of set up.- 1,011 replies

Likewise, alittle disappointed, when i looked out at 7am there was a light covering on roof tops, cars and the grass, but now although today was supposed to be sub zero, i just have cold rain with a temp. of 1.7c and rising. :-(- 807 replies

So can anyone explain why the rain hasnt moved all day - it has stayed stuck in its current position throughout. The forecast was for it to slip south during the day turning to snow as it does. I know the rain is turning to snow in places, but how come the front stalled ? It wasnt forecast to do this any reasons ? Will it eventually slip south ?- 807 replies

Looking at the radar, and either the rain band is stuck solid or the radar is.... Nothing has moved hardly for hours.... Thought it was going to be a wet day, but the rain is stationary. I assume its supposed to have started slipping south by now ???- 807 replies

Well, id like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Meto for their predictions last weekend for this Easterly we have had this week. They informed us right from the start, that this would NOT be a snowy event, instead alot of cloud with light snow flurries. This of course brought all the 'straw clutchers' out with rants of 'streamers' inches of snow, convective heavy showers etc etc. Whilst we all love to wish for things that are never there in the first place, the Meto were never excited about it at all, and even Mr I Ferguson, tried to calm everyone down in here during the week. I know the North East had several cms yesterday, so I suppose that was the highlight of this cold spell. The Meto get hammered all the time, so I just thought that on this one - well done. !

Yeah looking at the radar, there is a pretty definate line of showers running in from the wash. From the Wash, down through P'boro and just north of that and down into Northants. As Im in St Neots, Im about 30 miles to the south of that line, which means I will miss out. Bit of a bugger..!

A very light covering here this morning, then soon melted, but now been snowing steadily albeit small flakesfor over an hour now, but nothing has settled. I cant see that changing until after dark again, when the ground temps are at their lowest. Still, nice to see........
