I'm in Essex between maldon and Danbury, the wind is very strong from the east. could that 'create' further snow for my area off the sea today?
-

-
I don't belong in this thread , I'm near Danbury in Essex , but this thread livelier than the other one , so I'll share your excitement. i can't imagine we shall see much, just enjoying the cold from in front of the log burner.

Sorry can't get rid of the quote box. have fun sledging everyone, but there is always a tragedy occurring when we get snow, cos it's a relative rarity. so if you've got older kids, who are gonna go out on their own, warn them to check for fences and obstacles which may or may not be hidden by snow. All to often overlooked in the excitement of a speed run down a hill. stay safe and have fun! -

I don't think the thread should split, but bearing in mind confusion on mobiles re locations, perhaps we all just get used to tagging on the end of posts, our location. nr Danbury Essex -

What exactly does that mean, or is it specific to your company ? E.g. Are you an AA man ? -

Do a good deed, if you can afford it and you think an elderly person is struggling , or even if they're not..... pop a tenner in an envelope and a note with an anonymous good wishes, keep warm note. -

Preparation depends on where you live and age. my Dad whose 83, and remembers both biggies '47 and 63 has been dismissive of the cold, but he's forgetting he couldn't now dig his car out of snow, or walk safely to shops.Statisically if an elderly person takes a bad fall and injures themselves , they will never recover to the level of mobility they were before. so if you have an elderly relative or neighbor, please ask if they need anything, offer to pick up shopping or better yet, invite them in for a warm dinner and less worry about keeping there own home warm for a bit. Roll on the cold! -

And a lot of snow for many, is what I would infer from that. The major forecasters can't use serious language re snow till it gets into more reliable time frames, for joe blogs. Otherwise panic. if the big guns on here, are bouncing like super balls on speed? I'm happy. -

Place your repeat prescriptions in, and pick them up before the weekend . people remember the food, not always the pills. -

@tight isobar that's an interesting point, I'm on a phone and locations don't show on posters. i know yourself Mr Murr and Dan Smith are from the SE contingent, and of course Mr shortwave Sussex who , as long as snow it to our shores is a true cheerleader. who else regularly posts in Mod/Mad thread who's from our region? -

You won't be the only one, with parent worries. most of the young and youngish drivers, have never experienced it. Best advice, if she has to drive, is take a warm coat, hat gloves etc and warm socks ,sweeties and a drink with her, a phone charger and keep a full tank so if she's stuck in traffic she can keep engine running for warmth. oh and a shovel, but you've probably told her that. in fact even us oldies need reminding of those sensible precautions. it doesn't take a prang to leave you stranded, wasn't it lorrys a few years back that crippled a M road , cos they couldn't climb from a standing start ? wish her luck x -

Unfortunately not, he's 22 and very LD as well, he doesn't understand why it wouldn't work. tablets get thrown ,RIP many an iPad! usually with power outages we go for a drive to get away till it comes back on . But we shall manage . -

87 gave 2 ft of level snow at heybridge Essex , and the sea froze. Schools shut for a week, I always remember the BBC had a mini series called "Anzacs "on telly box , shown in the afternoons. Dad was off work ( teacher) so we all watched it as there was nothing else to do. surprisingly, I don't remember the power going off, but that would be my only concern if we got a significant Cold event now, severely autistic son would struggle without the computer . -

While March 2013 was not snowy in my neck of the woods, it was savagely cold. i remember many times walking and having to come home early as the cold wind made my asthma kick off . the lack of white stuff didn't make it less interesting for me as a coldie. what was amazing, was when the weather turned into normal spring temps, and the blossom and green almost happened overnight. it really was special to witness . -

Whatever happens in The forthcoming weeks. feed the birds guys and gals. if winter prolongs, they really will need a bit of extra support, and into spring when they are frantically nesting, laying and feeding offspring. -

The models may not be showing us what we want to see ,it's the chase that gets most of us on here. I still believe that some surprises are on offer this winter. I cannot back that up with evidence, but then this isn't the thread for that.
