  1. hubby is a builder, and he's usually ,at this time of year doing what builders do.....building! however brickwork or concreting can't be done below 4° or if temps going to freeze overnight it must be covered. well as you can imagine not many bricks being laid lately! Its delaying work and ultimately payment for jobs,so a pain in the rear. especially as heating the house for longer is costing so much more. even if.temps were average I wouldn't have woodburner running flat out as I currently am,i would just light it up late afternoon for the evening and night. I have always loved all seasons and enjoy them, but this winter and the fact the light at the end of the tunnel is very faint,Im getting weary of it.
  2. well as far as most of us posters go,after a wet summer ,what seems like a very very long winter,a.non existent start to spring, lets just hope we don't have a catastrophic summer. wildlife can't take it, tourism trade, construction industry and no doubt many other trades wont take it. It highlights just how teeny and insignificant we are....cos the weather will do whatever it wants! but right now, some sunshine even with the cold would be lovely. this slate grey weather is awful.
  3. the weather is ,as the weather is I suppose, but I like my weather in the appropriate seasons. I know snow can be had, even in April, but its the lack of sunshine Im feeling at the moment. to me it feels like its been winter since last June!! but hey ho,its got to end sometime......hasn't it??
  4. I am really disliking the current gloomy nothing of weather atm, But if I could have a wish list...... For the next month or so dry bright conditions to let the saturated fields dry off.......... Gentle overnight rains through April, And warm and sunny, speckled with cracking thunder storms from may to august........... Please weather, give us a benign year.
  5. I used to live in rainham just down the road, not sure if my location just over the water will be lucky
  6. Hello my name is Starstream and I am a *coldie * But today.......the sunshine is making me hanker for being able to hang washing on the line, open windows and enjoy the vitamin D boost. It seems so long ago since the sun gave us more than a quick flash before rain clouds obscured everything....... I hope we all get what we wish for, But gotta say I wouldn't mind if this cold blast is the beginning of a good dry year, where we see a bit more of that big yellow ball in the sky.
  7. lovely frost this morning, unexpected as i was up till gone 2 am and it was quite mild then.I know as i went out to get some logs in. Suns out and it looks like a gorgeous morning!
  8. just come in to bagsy a nice comfy corner to watch the next week unfold Mod thread slightly lost the plot a bit! I have read through and seen the sad post about JP father, another poster has a poorly mum and a baby born! what a nice bunch you are, the kindness and respect is heartening to read. we all have a journey to take in life, so to everyone whatever you are going through, be it good or sad. I wish you safe and fair winds xxxx
  9. surely there is too much stress about what will or what won't fall from the sky 5 days away. please guys, i cannot read the models, therefore i rely on balanced constructive opinions in here. its close enough we can be confident of COLD but as to what form that cold may take... snow? cold and dry? there are to many variables to make it 100% set in stone. lets enjoy the eye candy, the excitement and leave the pinpoint analysis till nearer the event? oh and whoever has the key to the back door, can they leave it unlocked and all members line up nicely for the first shipment of SOFT toys. Anyone caught throwing lego ,mechano or any sharp implements will be dealt with severely!!!
  10. i love all seasonal weather in the correct seasons,so to see winter going out with a bang (if it does) would be fabulous. and my hubby is a builder so cold snow and rain does impact on work and as a consequence ,income. if we had regular guaranteed *seasonal* weather we wouldn't all be getting our pants in a pickle about some good cold potential. I just hope that 2013 does not give extremes out of kilter with what the environment and economy can cope with. I am suffering with food price increases due to a wet 2012.....potato prices are shocking!(might seem minor point to some but it is tough when on a budget) It is still February so cold and snow should be expected.
  11. i agree and it how i swiftly suss the upcoming mood......if sniping is ongoing, then wobbly models and uncertainty ,if all sides are playing footie in no mans land and swopping photos from home, then all is well for upcoming cold.
  12. thing is with snow, as we are always told its a complicated thing to forecast for the UK . i don't understand the models well enough to read them and most off the time i am using a phone, which is not best for viewing. I rely on interpretation from the regulars in here , the daytime ones not the late night one liners! i think as already had been said, this upcoming weekend is a nowcasting , lampost watching stress fest.
  13. My gods bigger than your god...kinda thing??
  14. I live in Essex too,am on a mobile so can't see locations. we did get some snow in the Jan event but barely 4cm. it wasn't as impressive as more north of the county or the west of the county, it surprised me as generally Essex does.quite well but last time , not my bit. sorry mods i know its IMBY but was just clarifying Essex was relatively poor compared to EA in general.
  15. its gone quiet..so I guess so...but gonna stick a hat on a broom and wave it about...just to check
  16. well lets hope its cold soup, followed by an iceberg salad......with sorbet to finish! thanks for not ignoring a.novice question.
  17. after seeing that documentary on 1963 the other night.......were we to experience even 2 weeks like that, let alone 2 months!!!! the country would implode !
  18. I am new and dont usually post in this thread....Waaaay too scary!! But I have read, that there is a lag between strat warming, and the then effects, and then in other posts, there is no noticable lag effect.... which is correct~?,or in this instance as we has a warming event in Dec, will the recent larger warming event be less "noticable"as we still have disuruption by Dec warming? hope that makes sense
  19. its forecast aspect seems to have....shannon entropy again~?~?? the bit we pay extra for!!!
  20. Must keep positive, just because we got nothing, doesnt mean its over....we still have cold, and we are only in mid January....plenty of time for snowmaggedon part 2
  21. It does look like its pivoting, which may be helpful IMBY as I do seem to have a rather new and well functioning snowdome!!! although I dont remember ever getting snow from a westerly ish direction, its always had an Easterly angle in the past.
  22. i am.on the boundary between chelmsford and maldon .....can report steel.grey skies cold but not a flake so far. on phone so awkward to keep up
