  1. Surprised there's been no weather warnings for fog this weekend. We've had a lot of warnings that have not been needed over the past 2 weeks but this dense fog really would justify one. Last night was really dense and looks like going the same way tonight.
  2. Quite a difference in forecasted temperatures today, Met Office going for 3c, other forecasts going for 7-9c. I suppose it must be the mist and fog causing the large range as forecasters are unsure where it will sit and where it will clear? Actual temperature right now is 4c.
  3. Entering this weather pattern today is like joining the M40. You know there's a long way to go. You know it's going to be dull but all you can do is turn the stereo on and get on with it hoping that the other end comes quickly.
  4. Spring can be a win-win situation with the weather. Take 2007 and 2008. Both completely different but both equally enjoyable. Sitting having dinner in the garden on Easter day 2007 with my family in the warm sunshine was simply terrific. Having a snowball fight with my niece a year later was also just as special. Looking forward to it. It's a season where we can really shine with the climate we have. We have many boring winters and dank summers in our country, but there are many memorable Spring events I can recall...and a huge variety of them too from boiling hot to frigid cold. Feels like a very quick moving season too going from one type of weather to the next. Then later nature wakes up and we have the amazing blossom displays and that amazing fresh green colour that seems to appear overnight. And by that stage, the first plume may be sneaking up on the models. Hope this year's Spring is a classic British one. Fast moving and providing a bit of everything!
  5. Hooray! We've now got the ideal wind direction for showers off the North Sea coming in from the Lincolnshire coast! At last! It's taken all week and we've got there! Now to look at the radar and watch them piling in.... ......zoom in, there must be one in there somewhere... ... ... zoom in again ... ... ... again ... ... zoom ... ... ... click ... Ah ha! There's a speck near Melton Mowbray. Well done winter. Well done.
  6. Ha! Very true! Although at least with dry weather I can get out with the dog without too much slipping and sliding on the mud. Once the snow melted last Saturday, the dog walks around here were horrific! He doesn't care though. A muddy dog is a happy dog!
  7. You also said the Atlantic would be back by the 2nd Feb.
  8. Is this the best it's got? If so than good riddance cold spell.
  9. Small isolated showers getting further inland a bit more now. One almost got as far as Leicester. Heavier stuff appearing up near the Humber. East Midlanders might want to have a look out but probably not worth it yet.
  10. The Met Office warnings have finally been pushed more to the east. Always looked that way and surprised it took this long to be honest. Lets look at the positives of this week. The main one is that this has to be the sunniest weather we've had for quite some time. The big blue skies with fluffy clouds floating through is a welcome sight. I know it's not what everyone wants, I would rather have snow too and I agree that this winter is not shaping up to be a particuarly good one here. But these are the cards we're dealt and unlike last winter, at least there is a postive that can be pulled out of it. So where do we go from here? More sunshine hopefully. Temperatures a little closer to average after the mini easterly , although we've not been massively below in the daytime anyway. Maybe something more interesting will happen later in February?
  11. I have a lot of respect for the met office. I think they do a brilliant job. However, the fact I wake up this morning and see that the warnings are still there when the radar suggests different seems odd. Reading reports, surely all that is needed is an ice warning for eastern coastal fringes? (Reports of freezing rain there. Nasty stuff) Turning out that this time, it's their computer generated forecast that's right!
  12. We may have dodged a bullet tonight. Reports of rain coming in from West Yorkshire and places near the east coast. A little warm sector in the North Sea apparently.
  13. Such a beautiful country we live in but bloomin 'eck, how many natural obstacles for snow showers does it have? We seem to have three clear runs it seems for showers and storms. One down the M6 from Cheshire, one along the A14 from the east and (for summer storms in particular over the past 2 summers) one up the M5 from Bristol. And all three of those roads are a pain in the backside to get down anyway!
  14. But you could argue that the intensity of the cold would be greater in February, thanks to more chance of an easterly from a continent that has had ample time to cool down. Therefore the snow stays around just as long. 1991 and 2009 were great for this, and we were SO close in 2012. However, the weather doesn't fit into neat little boxes like that though. We've seen snow last on the ground in late March and April before yet thaw rapidly in early January. You have to take each event at face value when it comes regardless of the month. I agree that the time of the year is one factor...but it is one of many.
  15. February 1991, 2009 and 2012 were well overated weren't they? (Well you could argue 2012...it really was only one very snowy day that month) And before you say how rare those events are. That's 3 snowy (2012 is pushing it a bit to say snowy to be fair) Febs within 20 years. Just as high a hit rate as any January, probably higher than any December.
  16. I really don't see where any snow is going to come from tonight. Nothing has come in on the Lincolnshire coast for a while now. Seems just too quiet. You really need to see developments soon to stand any chance. We weren't going to get anything in the West Midlands anyway but sorry East Mids peeps...looks like you're going to have to join us for a quiet night this time.
  17. Showers up north now coming in around Teeside. Maybe that energy will transfer down the coast to help our East Midlands friends out later in the night.
  18. Seems to be a lot of hoops to jump through to get any showers anywhere near here over the next two days. But as always...never say never.
  19. Everything fizzled out on the radar here now. Nothing left downwind either. Slightly disappointing but there you go. The tiniest of dustings here in the end. Good luck to those further east. The rest of the night is yours.
  20. This very light snow snow reminds me of Central Ohio.Used to do this for days on end when we had a feed down from the Great Lakes (was about 200 miles away from them). Would take a week to get a cm on the ground! Not much else more for us here now. Too far north. Nice little surprise though. Who knows what else might crop up this week?
  21. There we go. At last. Light snow now.
  22. Still nothing! Starting to worry a little!
  23. Spotted my problem, I'm in a very tiny dry slot. Doesn't last long thankfully. Hopefully I'll see something soon.
  24. Nothing here. Hmm, would have expected something by now.
  25. Don't shy away from that window just yet. Good development out of nowhere to our northeast!
