  1. Proper snowing here now. Large flakes. Not sticking of course but a nice surprise to see.
  2. Eased back to light rain again now. But keep an eye out everyone because it is turning to snow in the heavier stuff.
  3. Becoming more snow here now. It’s one of those where you can tell it really wants to turn.
  4. We currently have sleet here. A few large snowflakes mixed in with the rain.
  5. A shame that stuff out west is coming in now. Could have been a nice surprise has it been a bit later. Can see why it's caused a mini stir further east though.
  6. Indeed, temperatures are widely between 5-7c across the region...so absolutely no chance of snow this afternoon and maybe even early this evening. Temperatures look better tomorrow and Sunday. Again, the warnings issued today are probably more concerned with the potential of ice.
  7. Working between Birmingham and Rugeley this morning. Heavy wet snow falling at Bloxwich but was rain by the time I got to Walsall. Of course, it might just be that I got to the heavy precipitation at Bloxwich and other places saw snow too.
  8. Went to bed around 7 last night as had to be up at 3 for work this morning. Was woken up by an almighty thump on the bedroom window as the cold front hit. Then the snow hit and suddenly was laying quite thick. So I threw on some clothes and took my car up to the main road as I didn’t want to chance not getting out this morning. Could not believe how heavy the snow was. But needn’t have bothered. A lot had melted by the time I woke up. Only a covering on the grass. Even the road down my cul de sac was clear. Best to be safe when you need to be on the road so early I suppose. The drive into work was normal (apart from using up all my screen wash from the spray and salt from the lorries on the M6). Now at work in Birmingham city centre and no evidence here whatsoever of last night’s excitement. I see the met office forecast has dried us out for the weekend and into next week now with it actually turning milder by Wednesday. But to be honest, the forecasts do seem to be struggling more this winter. A sign of the volatile weather pattern we’ve been enduring probably. The MO forecast really struggled with the December 28th snowfall for example. So unfortunately, it’s going to be a messy and difficult to forecast few days ahead I reckon. Edit: Just come down to work my first train of the morning and it’s raining. So as you were...
  9. I’m at work, got a shift that sees me all over the West Midlands today. Currently in Rugeley and the skies are clearing nicely. Should make for a decent shift. Temperatures almost as high as the percentage forecasted for rain today.
  10. Pleased to see the main rain band pushed the whole way through overnight. Just get this drizzly murk cleared now and we might actually squeak a half decent day out of it.
  11. I've got to be up at 6:30 am for work, so I'll have a look in the SE and EA thread to see what's going on. Got my fingers crossed they'll see something, after that constant stream of icy rain off the North Sea they endured between Christmas and New Year, they really do deserve something. And just so I'm not a traitor to my own local thread...the Midlanders east and south of Birmingham really deserve something too after missing out on...well...just about everything so far really. Really would like to see these locations getting something. Would be nice if one winter, we could all get it at the same time as each other!
  12. If the updated Met Office forecast is right, the rain could be out of here by 10am. Get it through quick and get it out of here. The sooner it’s scarpered off east and given them a winter wonderland...the better!
  13. It would be really nice for you in the East Midlands if it didn’t go to plan and stalled right over you giving you the hours of snowfall. Problem is, it would leave us under the rainy bit and I just want it away from here!
  14. Absolutely. Also good to know we’re completely out of it so no pressure. Just grab the (breakfast) popcorn and watch the highs and lows unfold in the south east and East Anglia thread.
  15. While the south easterners are planning their early morning snowy dog walks, there might be an advantage for us as a result of tomorrow’s front going too far east for us. As it clears, we might get some afternoon sunshine while in the milder air. Imagine that, mild AND sunny. Now that is a rare occurrence for this winter. And before you all start asking, “What’s good about that?” Well I’m getting older and like a bit of sun now and again and am a bit fed up of the short supply of it this week. And it’ll only be for a couple of hours if it happens. So
  16. One small to thing to watch out for is because the front has pushed so far east, it's starting to open up the Cheshire Gap in the flow behind it. Not likely to produce anything here...but worth a little straw clutching anyway.
  17. Yeah, I know. I work on the railways and was shocked on the 28th December how there was no snow at all on the line out to the airport. Made me feel quite sad really that more of us didn't get in on it.
  18. Yeah, we can forget about it here now in the West Midlands, the outlook isn't too inspiring either. But I am rooting for those further east. We had our fun just after Christmas so it would be nice to see you have some too. That snowfall from the 28th December onwards is proving to be more and more lucky as it goes further into history...because despite the potential shown, it really has just been very slowly downhill since. This is a winter that seems to be slowly deteriorating rather than a disaster from start to finish. So that's an improvement on previous years...I guess?!
  19. Well across the region you've either got 3c and heavy rain or 10c and heavy rain. The lampost views are all the same.
  20. I saw a Tweet recently that said, "Sometimes, it's OK not to have an opinion" I like to remind myself of this sometimes when on social media or forums and I think it would do some other people good as well. However, with the weather this week...never mind having an opinion, I haven't even got a clue! And that's my contribution I'm afraid. I'll let you know if it snows here.
  21. Temperatures now going beyond what was predicted today. Many places into double digits, and with dew points doing the same, it's a right mild miserable soup out there. What is amazing is the temperature difference across short distances. I could drive for only an hour and go from 10C to 3C. Going to be interesting to watch how this all meanders around for the next couple of days.
  22. In the meantime, to get your snow fix, have a look at this wonderful website and select Stockholm! Drive & Listen DRIVEANDLISTEN.HEROKUAPP.COM Listen to local radio stations while driving through the cities around the world. Edit: Just clicked back into Stockholm on it...and it's not always snowy! Must have different video feeds. Can't even get virtual snow sometimes!
  23. Just did my last 4am drive into Birmingham for work this week. Despite temperatures hovering between 0 and 2c, it was the easiest commute of the week. Nothing to scrape or brush off the car, just jump in and go. No ice on the roads to worry about, (apart from my street which is usually last to thaw out). Areas of light rain and drizzle in the murk. It was suddenly all so familiar again.
  24. Thoroughly miserable in Birmingham city centre, rain becoming moderate and feels raw. Looking forward to getting home and a hot mug of tea! Edit: except it’s just turned to snow!
  25. I’m nearly back in Birmingham now, still just light rain and drizzle. Driving home soon where I’m sure I’ll find that Gornal has shrouded itself in the comfort of it’s own cloud again.
