  1. Well got nothing last night apart from one single bolt and its hardly rained at all but thats meant the temperatures remained around 18c -19c all night so a very uncomfortable night sleeping. However this could a be a silver lining for today as if we get any breaks the temperature should hopefully sky rocket as the ground is relatively dry, its already nudging 21c and its still overcast. Just hope if it does fire up I'm on my lunch break at work.
  2. Had a cracking storm rumble through here with a shelf cloud, first time i've seen one of them in the UK
  3. The channel has exploded into life in the last couple of radar scans, looks very rapid. Could be an interesting night along the south coast
  4. June was a very typical early summer month for me i felt in Reading and it was lovely. Mostly warm and dry with temperatures in the low 20's with a few cooler days slotted in-between and some thunderstorms. If July carries on in the same vein but is slightly warmer than I'll be ranking this summer quite highly. Highest temp was 23.9c but this year has been pretty strange its been persistently warm but its never gotten hot. However back at my parents in South Devon its been a different story, its been very dry and very warm month with temperatures in the low to mid 20's for at least two and a half weeks with it reaching 24c at least five times during the month but was more average and wet during the last few days. There seems to be a lot of hinting of riding coming in strong for the second week of July. I have a hunch we may see that developing russian high pressure link up with ridge from the azores during the middle part of the month which could give a widespread spell of very warm and mostly settled weather. Just a hunch though
  5. I knew I should have gone for 15.5c but got took a risk that the final week would be hot, although it does look like it could very warm for a time next week across the south.
  6. Very warm and muggy outside still, currently 18.8c. Some nice convection going on as well overhead and to our North and East don't know if we can be extremely lucky and bag a fifth storm today
  7. Wow! Last night was just incredible. Best series of storms i've seen in years, had four of them one right after another lost count at the amount of Cg's and IC's there were.
  8. Second storm rattling through. Some faint infrequent flashes way to our north again, cannot believe how this has turned out.
  9. Blimey!! That was one cracking storm, easily the best i've seen in the UK for years! Lost count how many cg strikes there were, counted 5 at once :O just amazing
  10. Had a nice little brief storm just clip us from the west with a few cloud to cloud bolts but it fell apart and went quiet pretty quick, hoping the stuff over Southampton survives its march northward
  11. Lots of Alto-cumulus here currently and a nice warm fresh breeze feels really nice currently 22.3c. I've got a hunch that we may get something during the early hours maybe just after midnight, hoping we do as i'll miss anything that fires up during the day tomorrow as I'm at work the majority of the day.
  12. Was going to post this the other day but been busy with revision for my exam and popping out again now so will make it quick but here's my final summer thoughts; I haven't changed my view since April and the factors i was looking for this summer seem to be slowly coming together. We've seen a continuation and strengthening of the positive PDO the last month as well as a shift towards weak El Nino conditions in the pacific and also we are in the midst of transiting towards the -QBO phase. I can't seem to get the links to work but when matching the composites for this summer the common theme that kept popping up with a -QBO and +PDO pattern is a trough in the mid-atlantic and high pressure towards scandinavia, very much like we've had this month and i can see this continuing but i think the high pressure will become more influential as summer wears on. Summary: Very warm summer with rainfalls totals generally around average. Wetter early summer, drier late summer. June: Very Warm. More changeable first half of the month with some cooler and unsettled periods alternating with brief warm/very warm periods, with the risk of some thundery episodes. Moving into the second half of June things gradually turning more warmer and drier as high pressure ridges in and becoming largely settled for the remainder of the month with the risk of it becoming quite hot. CET: 16.0c - A near average first half but i think the second half of June could see some very persistent warmth so sticking my neck out a bit with this one. July: I'm not quite sure how this month will pan out. Warm but Changeable. Very warm early with a slow breakdown of June's settled spell. Remaining warm and changeable during the middle part of the month before turning drier late in the month. Breakdowns likely to come in the from the south not the west, with the risk again of some thundery episodes. CET: 17.6c August: Very Warm & Dry, especially for the South-East. August along with late June i think will be when we see summer peak. High pressure building over the UK and to our north east. Frequent south-easterly winds but very dry especially for the South-East. More unsettled at times further west with more near average rainfall totals. CET: 18.4c Overall I think we may well have the warmest summer since 2003 and could even challenge 2003 for fourth place if i was to be so bold, providing the PDO stays strongly positive. One thing I think could be of interest this summer is the heat intensity at times and humidity. With low pressure in the mid Atlantic and high pressure to our east there is a chance for some very hot plume events this summer along with some thundery spells.
  13. If I was to rank summers from the late 90's onward i would place 2003 at the top as it was persistently warm, dry and sunny most of the time. We also had a couple of cracking spanish plumes in June and a 4 week dry spell in the August which ended with a thunderstorm. The heatwave at the start of August was also really memorable. The warm very sunny and dry spring and first half of Autumn also made it feel like one long lazy summer, we've not had such a warm spring followed by a warm summer since. 2006 I'd rank second. The June and July were brilliant, although I missed the second half of July so for that reason i rank it behind 2003. The August wasn't too bad down in the South-west. The first week was very warm, the middle part of the month was a bit dull at times but it still reached 20c pretty much every day and we then had some cracking storms around the 18th. In fact this is the only summer where i've experienced a storm in each of the summer months, all of them were spanish plumes and pretty nasty. 2005 I'd place third. A very thundery but also very warm second half to June, saw 6 thunderstorms in one day, don't think i'll ever see that again in the UK. July had a nice fortnight of very warm/hot weather where it almost hit 30c. August was persistently very warm right throughout and ended with a cracking thunderstorm On the flip side, I never, ever want to experience a summer like 2008 again. Was an incredibly boring summer weather wise, all the years extremes happened between May and June and after that it was just damp and drizzly, bar one week in July.
  14. Would personally love a summer like 1976/1995, i vaguely remember bits of '95 but was only very young. I still think this summer will be a warm one with rainfall average to slightly below with most the rainfall.
  15. Some rotation in the cell north of reading, is anybody close by to confirm, looks like its trying to do something
  16. Also some very interesting scud with the developing cumulus clouds and to the shower/storm to our east. Very fast moving and some rotation involved and becoming quite low to the ground
  17. Gone black to our south but no rumbles or flashes like the last one :S
  18. Nice little storm veered to the east at the last minute but still got clipped by it. Another cell forming behind it wondering if we can be fluky and get seconds
  19. Think we are about to get mullered frequent thunder and lighting to our south
  20. Very interesting rotating scud on the bracknell cell. Spotted a fair few bolts though as it passed by. Thunder now growling from our south going dark once again hoping we get a direct hit this time
  21. Another more deeper rumble to our east. very dark clouds pretty much in all directions. EDIT: CG strike seen to our east
  22. Going dark to my south east now. Lightning now showing up in the nearest cell, come on please survive!!!
