  1. It's sticking west though isn't it?? The earlier GFS seemed to show it moving to the east a lot more. Still, I should have rain/sleet/snow at some point in the next two hours. Possibly a direct hit??

Somewhere should either get a dumping or a complete wash away of snow :) Glad to see no seperate weather warning out for me for Heavy Snow as that would be the nail in the coffin :D

yeah watching this feature to could be a good suprise I always think you get the most snow when it isnt really forecast, ie when its forecast for 15cm plus you get a dusting and when the forecast is for a couple of cm you get a pasting :D cheers

  3. Weird thing is that my most local weather station Glasgow Bishopton hit the heady heights of -0.8C at 10pm, although Glasgow Airport is still way down at -6C.

It will be what it will be. The good news is that Santa has already been here, and seems to have left a vast array of presents for BoyCatch and ToddlerCatch :D Ultimately what is more important?? :) :) :) :) :) :)

  4. If I had been either 10 miles north or south I would have been pasted

In terms of best cold spells, 95/96 is the best I remember but then I'm an old fuddy at 31!!

However, this cold spell could actually beat everything I remember, I am not going to let lack of snow fudge my objective judgment too much. After all, once you've got a covering is there any difference between that and 6 inches??? Not only that, but the models do seem to suggest there is a chance of an ongoing winter spell. It is still only just Christmas Eve and look at us!! Snowed in. Iced in. Fogged up. Frozen country. Santa is going to have one hell of a sleigh ride tomorrow night.

I hope he has stocked up on de-icer. :) :):):):):cold:

I actually recall 1995 that was a mega xmas from what I remember I think what we need is a potent north westerly or cold westerly ha march 2006 all over again :):)

  5. Just in the from the pub which was at sea level in Glasgow and still heavy snowcover there. IMO this cold spell has been a once in a decade event if not more in my lifetime (im 22) I can only remember one such sustained cold spell (December 2000) where snow has lasted so long and temps been so low for such a period of time.

Also coming upto xmas I cant recall having 15cm+ of snow lying before xmas day which now means I will wake up on xmas day with a white xmas which is very rare. Been an exceptional cold spell and I dont think some folk realise the significance of this cold spell and fair play people like CMD have been incredibly unlucky in terms of snowfall (20 miles east mate and you would have hit the jackpot) but most of us have been very lucky in terms of snowfall :drinks:

Been a member of this forum for years and this has been the most prominent cold spell its sheer length has been immense I am used to seeing a day of snow then all melted the next day. Today was a magical snow day with not a bit of thaw and that IMO is what seperates this cold spell from most. Neways signing off and I wish everyone a merry xmas and hopefully more snow in the new year :) all the best

  6. Yeah..i was just off to bed myself then and thought id have a quick gander at the charts.

I like the look of the precip the way its pivoting round on sat24..looks as though it could come this far south as well.

Good few hours away though yet.

good bit of snow already eh :)could be even more if this dumps a few more cm

  7. Was just heading to bed there and thought I would have a wee look at the precipitation charts stunning:O if that snow makes its way down here and brings another 5-7cm theres going to be some seriously impressive falls down here

Infact I am going for 30cm plus in certain regions with altitude 200m+ and I think I could have 20-25cm easily will take pictures in morning sensational stuff Cheers

    Scott

    also -8 here

  8. absolute mega day here in terms of snow not measured depth easily between 15-20cm this has been one cracking cold spell mean will probs wake up to snow on xmas day :)Cheers

    Scott

edit also temp is at minus 7.4c already shows you what snowcover does for you also tulloch bridge at -15 already :)

  9. Not really sure. The cloud to our south is definatley moving west to east, thats the snow in the south. The system to our NE is moving east to west and we are somewhere in the middle. The 12z run is rolling out now and has the low moving out to the North sea. This should drag the showers down but this set up is so weird, nothing would surprise me!cc_confused.gif

LS, you got any other idea's??

jackpot here 10 to 12cm here whiteout heavy snow
