  1. Had it frozen over completely? I forgot to check on my way in and out of central station today, but the other day there were chunks of ice floating down it.

Are people of the view then that this is now the last few days of the cold weather coming up?

yeah at Glasgow freen it had then down towards the bridge at the court it was pretty much frozen over with jsut small pockets of water nip down to glasgow green just now seriously its amazing something you will not see very often!

  2. Wow!what a day ended up driving down to Lanark which was snowbound and just outside lanark temperature was minus 16! at one oclock today. Seriously cold and snow depths were immense. Seems to ve very cold air about lanarkshire area and it probably was -20 or below easily there last night and who knows what it will go to tonight.

In all seriousness this cold spell has been the best in my lifetime (22 years) Went down glasgow green in Glasgow today and the clyde was frozen over how rare an occurence is this?

Parents make the most of this with your kids as these kind of memories will live with them forever and who knows turn them into snow lovers like yourselfs :( This might be the last time they expierience a cold spell like this as the next time this happens they might have moved out of home by then.

Just an amazing event and to any newcomers on the board well done you have joined at a time where it simply just doesnt get any better than this! I have been a member on this board for 5 years and this totally puts any cold spell to shame! All the best folks and keep warm! Cheers

Also to any folk that live in glasgow city centre take a drive upto stewartfield in East Kilbride to the lake which is frozen over and plently of deep snow there.

  3. If we can't have snow in the next few days SAG, then I'd like to see us testing these kind of minima while we can. Was a bit of cloud cover earlier in the evening in these parts that maybe hit the rate of temperature decline at Embra airport ... but its made it down to -10c at 11:50PM and we could be flirting with something very cold over the next 8 hours.

Sky looks totally clear here. Don't think we'll get close to the -17c record at that location ... but could be not far away from it if conditions stay as they are. Sounds like you're on a similar downwards trajectory there !

yeah defo although with snow sometimes it can just crop up when you least expect it so wouldnt rule out any more in the next few days we will just have to wait and see :) Cheers

  4. Ended up not going to aviemore as too risky, so stayed in Glasgow and got some cracking pictures, went up east kilbride to stewartfield where the loch was frozen and then up cathkin where i got some great pictures(well my mate did as hes a camera nut!)so will get them uploaded later on.Also measured depth and at its deepest 30cm+ this is just accumulation of a few weeks and no melt.

If we get some more snow I can see there being silly totals up here also I am at 210 m asl which helps but even lower down theres nice snow  Cheers

    Scott

edit; also thank god I didnt go up Aviemore as I wouldnt have got home seriously looks like the highlands are shut down for a while check out the drumotcher cam mental :whistling:

  5. Hi Scott. It's been amazing, not had huge totals of snow or anything but it always seems to be getting topped up. Snow now lieing for longer than 14 days (nearly 3 weeks now?!) at 33m asl on the west coast, unbelievable! I've seen snow falling nearly every day of the cold spell as well :D

Off back to bed, gotta be up for work in 2hours!

yeah thats amazing statistics giving your location, will be an interesting drive for you tomorrow. Also I think catchmydrift looks as if he has had a good top up judging by the radar will see when he comes on :) Cheers

  6. Like that up here again! (Staying around Alexandria Parade) the mainroads white! My lord! I can't remember a winter like this, best one of my lifetime so far! I just wish they would give us salt or smething for the pavements up here its like a deathtrap!

yeah I was in Inverary today absolutely no snow there at all even in arrochar nothing at sea level! I am 700 feet above sea level which help with accumulations:) Cheers

    Scott

Nice! Just woke up and its snowing :D Already got a decent covering (on top of the ice!) with a good bit more to come :D

Hello Ross  hows this spell been for you? One thing I will say even if snow isnt forecast it always seems to pop up so I dont really pay attention to forecasts ( Especially bbc) this forum is the best for seeing if snow is going to fall

  7. Hi Scott!

  10. :):)

That's the Grand Slam Dunk of Xmas Day weather complete.

    Full snow cover all day.

    Freezing rain.

    Freezing sleet.

Brief snow shower (last three all before or at 9am).

Crisp winter sunshine for several hours.

    Thick freezing fog.

    Now more snow.

I can't ever remember such a good Xmas Day for weather. Not to say it hasn't happened in any winter since 1978. However, this Xmas Day will be remembered for the rest of my life as one of the best cold weather winters.

send it down here please should definitely be snow here :)
