It's a real shame convection is so shallow today, lower heights and we'd be looking at a proper event!
Having said that despite shallow convection the lower levels are rather saturated with much drier air above the cloud layer so the usual issues with evaporation etc shouldn't apply today in theory.
A few CM in the lucky spots by the end of the day possibly.
Not sure if you've checked the radar recently, but I'd still class it as an event!
There's also round 2
Considering how lacking it has been with wintry weather from the east, and first part of Jan too!

I'm working in Margate today and the pink blobs have been passing on the radar for 15mins but nothing falling to the ground from what I can see!
It's evaporating, the main stuff is still in the North Sea! Expect snow within the next hour or so.
It's starting snowing here

First time I've seen the ppn reach as far as the West Country / South Wales. Fully expecting the showers to fizzle out before then but maybe notThis is how things have changed!
It was only a week ago people were saying that for the south it would be mainly dry and because of the DRY air and being a high pressure, they didn't see much in the way of snow. Also for the fact that the upper temps were not forecasted to be as cold as this and so widespread.
Now look what's happened!
This is under a high pressure and it's much colder than first thought just a week ago

Radar between 9:55 and 10:00 is a sudden change. Looks like that cold air just hit properly.
METO changing the warning is interesting, this could be a fun few hours...
Even I wasn't expecting that much precipitation in the North Sea! I expect Snow Warnings soon

The models are trending pretty much the same over the last 5 days or so in my eyes. Promising nirvana at day 10.
No matter how much we all wish for the deep cold, snow,I can't see it coming.
Expectations need to be roped in imo, then if the unexpected does happen..........Boom
Wasn't the switch over to much colder weather always beginning around the 14th/15th of Jan and after that we have different ideas on the table?

The North Sea around the south east is filling in with cloud now from being clear at 10pm to filled at 12. Now it's just a waiting game to see if it produces perception into the south east! See - https://www.sat24.com/en-gb

Me too! Even watching the radar/sat images for the south east! Still better than the model thread which has been flooded with Football related posts :(

Evening all,ECM finally coming on board with others regarding an extended cold period, still open regarding temperatures -10 hpa a loft never far away could still become severe especially in northern areas so going to feel this possible long fetched cold/verycold period.
Isn't a patch of -10pha to -12pha forecasted to cross the south tomorrow?

Not good news for me unless it melts by 12:45, or to anyone coming down from Chelmsford or oxley.
Not true lol, was nothing falling here, the heavier stuff though probably is.
What's not true? It was sleeting here, and a few flakes earlier too

It’s fine, just at the point now where the cold is embedding and blocking solid. It’ll either slide or the block will exert further. Attack would be a snow machine. For me as I’ve said, many twists to come, even this run hasn’t resolved it….but shows also that there’s no definitive Atlantic breakdown. Indeed this run would highlight Tamara’s re-inforcing post from earlier. Plenty to look forward to….and I think back to Matt Hugo’s post too….blended with my own view….happy as a coldie.

Considering the high pressure at the moment and then the possible greenland high, I'm expecting a Siberian high pressure to become a real feature down the line. Although not till end of Jan/Feb!
