It's a real shame convection is so shallow today, lower heights and we'd be looking at a proper event!

Having said that despite shallow convection the lower levels are rather saturated with much drier air above the cloud layer so the usual issues with evaporation etc shouldn't apply today in theory.

A few CM in the lucky spots by the end of the day possibly.

Not sure if you've checked the radar recently, but I'd still class it as an event!

    There's also round 2

Considering how lacking it has been with wintry weather from the east, and first part of Jan too!

The models are trending pretty much the same over the last 5 days or so in my eyes. Promising nirvana at day 10.

No matter how much we all wish for the deep cold, snow,I can't see it coming.

Expectations need to be roped in imo, then if the unexpected does happen..........Boom

Wasn't the switch over to much colder weather always beginning around the 14th/15th of Jan and after that we have different ideas on the table?

Evening all,ECM finally coming on board with others regarding an extended cold period, still open regarding temperatures -10 hpa a loft never far away could still become severe especially in northern areas so going to feel this possible long fetched cold/verycold period.

Isn't a patch of -10pha to -12pha forecasted to cross the south tomorrow?

It’s fine, just at the point now where the cold is embedding and blocking solid.  It’ll either slide or the block will exert further.  Attack would be a snow machine.  For me as I’ve said, many twists to come, even this run hasn’t resolved it….but shows also that there’s no definitive Atlantic breakdown.  Indeed this run would highlight Tamara’s re-inforcing post from earlier.   Plenty to look forward to….and I think back to Matt Hugo’s post too….blended with my own view….happy as a coldie.

Considering the high pressure at the moment and then the possible greenland high, I'm expecting a Siberian high pressure to become a real feature down the line. Although not till end of Jan/Feb!
