  1. Yes I thought today's Yellow rain weather warning seemed a bit over cautious. It's been mostly dry (grey slate cloudy) so far but clouds are starting to energise and it does go to 3pm. So maybe it will be a damp afternoon but nothing noteworthy. The ground is quite sodden at the moment, and it will probably stay that way to month's end.
  2. Potent hail shower here... leaving a temporary white cover...but the sun will make short work of that when it pops out again
  3. Very pleasant and welcome start to the day after yesterday's sodden non-stop deluge. A little nippy, but nothing an nice fleece/jumper won't take care of. Sadly showers on the way and I don't think they will be full of fluffy white snow flakes you can build a snow man out of...more like Slush or just plain cold rain.
  4. No shadow/shield/dome today over our parts....because of course it's a mild wet conveyor belt being delivered on a south westerly airstream without any south east wind ahead of it. If anything its invigorating itself in the upslopes of western hills. I'm part of that collective when it rains, but not when it snows. At times heavy rain, in between non-stop drizzle, being thrown at your face with a strong gusty wind. Foul.
  5. Yep, any snow has long since been washed away. Managed a few falling flakes late yesterday but the mild sector was hot on the heels. A little pocket of brightness here now, but Just in case I don't put my weather report in for tomorrow I'll do it in advance now; 'It's raining' Normal service resumed. A few slushy showers on Tuesday? The joys of that winter/spring transition.
  6. The white goods were served up in the end and received more snow in the late hours and early morning as the low pressure pulled in the colder air on it's back edge. The shadow didn't come into play. The March sunshine is getting stronger though and it was chalk & cheese contrast between the morning to late afternoon... Maybe more snow chances tomorrow and Tues...although if truth be known I am ready for Spring warmth now.
  7. Awoke to a white covering here too... looks like the wind was on steroids last night and determined to lay the snow down. Absolute chaos on trans pennine routes... even M62. Depth of snow not a patch on 2010/11 but still good for mid march
  8. Good luck to those waiting it out...precipitation has picked up a little here but not sticking. Apparently this is a named storm by the French.. "Northern England is set to feel the impact of Storm Larisa, set to bring 'treacherous conditions' to the UK overnight on Thursday, with winds of up to 50mph and 40cm of snow forecast in some areas." Precipitation to the south appears to be stalling...not moving north as fluid as before.
  9. Motion seconded... time for quits 5am wake-up call...maybe when it pulls south it could leave a wintry wake in it's slipstream, breaching the shield/dome. I doubt it but it's a good thought to take to dreamland.
  10. Precipitation (for what it's worth here in the shield) appears to be coming directly from the South with a very strong gusty easterly wind ahead of it. Not sure if that will raise the marginal temps a tad higher then the shield can be breached by heavy rain.
  11. Mind you... high parts of Oldham and it's a different world...according to LIVE: Snow latest as Met Office warnings in place across UK today - weather and traffic updates - Manchester Evening News WWW.MANCHESTEREVENINGNEWS.CO.UK Another amber weather alert covers parts of the north west, including Oldham, Tameside and Rochdale Grains Bar & Top of Ripponden Road looking dicey and quite a few road closures into Saddleworth.
  12. Soul destroying to see those promising Heavy showers around Stoke on Trent hitting the snow shield just south west of mcr... will have to wait until early hours as the low dives south to get something wintry on its backedge.
  13. They call it that in the summer lol...helped up last night though we scraped a winner in injury time. Must have been too cold for the visitors to hold on.
  14. Just seen falling snow today nothing sticking but the wind had got really gusty in last hour...if that combined with heavy snow overnight it could be very interesting tomorrow...but at my level not expecting any disruptive snow.
  15. A light snizzle affair at the moment... how much will that notorious Gr. Mcr snow shield come into play here today.
  16. Add 'upper Ram bottom' to that list... but on a serious note I would not take any of the trans pennine routes tomorrow. I can already picture the 'we were stranded all night' news stories...esp if the Amber warning plays out as expected
  17. Radar appears to be closing in a dry gap here so maybe a bit of light snow will commence again.... the starter before tomorrow's main course. Fingers crossed
  18. Yes, it's because of that dreaded snow shield/dome that I'm not 'kid' excited about the prospect of heavy snow tomorrow, even though I'm supposed to be in the Amber warning zone. Good news is the high parts of Oldham should do well, and that's only a quick scoot up Lees/Ripponden Road for me. Saddleworth might be all white on the night.
  19. Having what most are getting... almost like a snowy version of heavy drizzle. Sticking to grassy areas, bin lids, garden shed etc... but melting on the roads and pavements.
  20. Light snow fur last hour here too... Shame its the light precipitation because everything would be conducive for heavy snow if was intense enough.... still we might get that late Thursday into Friday
  21. Starting to look like a bit of turgid affair this now, with the band of snow now being put back and creeping north instead of slam-dunk-stall. Outer fringes will be light, until the heavy stuff sets in, but will it have run out of puff by then. Well at least I should be able to complete most of my outdoor activities tomorrow before any snow arrives.
  22. Appears to have trended slightly south again on Thursday, but high ground around Pennines and Peak District will have no worries. I'd be surprised if we don't see at least a few hours of falling snow for most of us in the North West, some will see it all day.
  23. Had a bit of a break from the forum too... but winter might have a final sting in its tail. Darren Bett seemed even interested in the end of week battleground setup.... saying "North Pennines & Scottish Hills" in particular could see heavy falls of snow. I'd accept a flurry or two... not being greedy.
  24. Frosty start - very icy overnight - but bonus is the sun is out giving relief for any wildlife basking in it's rays. Managed first cycle ride of the year yesterday after a very wet spell...so high pressure might be boring weather wise but at least it gives you opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors a bit more.
