  1. Dropped to -10 overnight, -2 now but the sun is tyring its best to punch above its weight for this time of year...will it win the battle for denying a second consecutive ice day here? The day despite the cold is perfect for being outdoors.
  2. That's what makes it more galling - the door was open for a final appearance. Morocco have been amazing and exceeded all expectations but I think the semi-final will be one match too many for them. France will probably meet Argentina in the Final.
  3. Well I got a sprinkling of the white stuff yesterday albeit in the wet variety, some patches still clinging to receptive areas. Supposed it's classed as a snow day but it won't be up their in the 'memorable falls' category. Cold theme continues though, and icy this morning. We need a breakdown dumping when the inevitable mild westerlies return to make this a cold spell worth putting up with. Shame about England...played well but that 'mental' barrier remains for winning the biggest prize.
  4. Rain & bits of wet sleet mixed in. Think i prefer the hard frosts under clear skies option myself.
  5. Any wintry mix is well to the south west of here at present...very Cheshire Gappy. Still frost hasn't left most surfaces here...probably maxed out at zero degrees. Might get a sprinkling of the white stuff before the nights out.
  6. Temps not dipped below -5c which was about the same when I hit the sack last night, but still very hard & harsh frost. Model wobble-day today.. they are bringing the low further north...might benefit us in terms of white stuff next week, but I still think it will be a southern affair. We'll probably keep the frozen theme going.
  7. -3... already 3° lower than the weather apps have me down for now. Coldest night in store for quite some time.
  8. Really liking the Meto updates on YouTube - latest 10 day trend seems to suggest as a region we'll more than likely hold onto the colder air next week with north easterly winds...less chance of disruptive snowfall from the tropical low, but that might not even scrape southern UK at this rate. No sign of a breakdown yet.
  9. Hard overnight frost on wakeup...-2c... the cold spell starts here folks. maybe outside chances of sprinkly white stuff falling from the skies on from Thur/Fri & Sat... not copius amounts but maybe something looking wintry. Some models teasing a nasty looking low midweek next... at the moment we're on its northern edge with bitter easterly winds. We are keeping hold of the colder air for now.
  10. Cold will be the main theme for our area I expect, wishbone effect will drape the wintry showers along the coastal areas of Northern Britain. I'll need a disturbance of some sort with a NNW element off the Irish sea to give any decent snow here. Should have some cracking frosty mornings with long sunny spells albeit in a chilly northerly wind.
  11. Wow a shower coming from the East and energising over the hilly pennines to dump its payload on our side of the region... who'd thought it. Quite a bit wet on the ground now. Very small showers though according to radar.
  12. No fog here but the darkest of slate grey skies left visibility levels quite poor. First time the cold has felt quite pervasive almost clinging to you in the dank gloomy conditions. Feels right though for this time of the year. The holy grail of Greenland High's appearing in some of the models...still doesn't guarantee being buried in 20ft snowdrifts but it holds up the 'You Shall Not Pass' card to the Atlantic for awhile.
  13. Unlike yesterday, we ain't going to be seeing the golden orb in the sky today. Low level cloud and mist rather than any dense fog, but visibility quite poor. Can't see the hills to the east. This adds to the chilly feel, but not windy yet. The keen easterly will pick up a bit as we near the end of the week. Still lots to be resolved with regards to the high pressure blocking and what materialises on the ground...but at least it's showing it's hand this year.
  14. Yep very decent day today, nice to have something a bit more seasonal with nippy starts and the sun trying to warm things up a little but it struggles to reach parts of the garden that high summer would. Still I'll take this over mild and wet any day of any week! The truly baltic charts are still beyond the elusive D10+ but it will still feel cooler as the easterly breeze picks up through the week....maybe low level cloud/fog will add to the chilly feel.
  15. Met app has been very poor today... started off with heavy rain here for every hour from 11am... rain has made very slow progress and still to reach here so the app is changing on the hour to reflect it....not complaining though this time... managed to stay dry so far. Aye and it was the little feature dropping down from southern Scotland the day after on Sunday afternoon into its icy wake that produced my one and only fall off settling snow last winter. Promised so much...
  16. Congrats on your move...another North West member I can get extremely jealous of when they are getting dumping's of fluffy white settling snow, while I get a slushy watery mess Although that said...it's usually the same with higher parts of my Town only 2-3 miles away!
  17. A 'Bobby dazzler' day today, long sunny spells, slight breeze and temps not too bad after a nippy start. Just a shame the sun's so low now, it seems to only get to eye level. Growing trends of a drier dare I say it "colder" spell after we get this weekend out of the way. Easterly influence perhaps?
  18. Narrow band of intense rain on the regions doorstep now, probably not quite as ferocious as it was coming into Western Wales but should still pack a punch for an hour or so. Quite gusty too ahead of it...thoughts with the Island of Islay which according to https://www.xcweather.co.uk/ has been blown off the map this morning.. Yes bit of a quandary - most of us on here would like some snow (mostly because it's such a rarity of late) and to get that we would need a spell of cold weather. My eyes are popping out at latest energy bills which are double what they were previously and for basically the same usage. Very rarely have the CH on - just an hour in the morning before work and then a hour or so late evening. May a swell just start lighting-up £5 notes to keep me warm, it might be cheaper the way things are going!
  19. Benefitting here from the rain shadow that always seems to part the waves of any intense rain coming from the South East - gutted when this is snow, but as it's rain I'll take it on the chin. The intense Yellows and Greens never made it over my house.
  20. We've had heavy persistent rain here for the last hour although it's been light and steady all day but as really pepped up a bit now. Unusual to see a band of rain moving in from the east and intensifying and setting up camp in our parts but such is the way today. <bet it won't when it's snow> Very slow moving so flooding might be an issue for those areas prone to it.
  21. Well anywhere between Preston and Lancaster would have a conveyor belt of heavy showers this morning, shame it isn't two months down the line could have been a bit slushy. Showers nowhere to be seen here, which is good for raking up the fallen leaves in the garden. Edit: (12:46) I made the mistake of looking to the Irish sea thinking anything showery would develop from there...what do you know a little pop-up shower spawned 3 miles west has dumped a little sprinkling here...still I've done what I needed to do outdoors.
  22. Yep showers are dragging their heels here so it basically feels like an all-day rain event. It will be mild next week, but hopefully something feeling more seasonal for the end of November early December? Thought we'd had quite a bit of rain recently but went to Dovestones last week and reservoir is still to recover from it's summer draught. Recent United Utilities email advised water levels are at 52.2% and should be 77.1% 20221103_131657.mp4
  23. By far the most seasonal feeling day today, starting with a nippy frost, then the fog/mist descended for a few hours, to be burnt away to a predominantly sunny day. Temperature as remained cool with very little wind. Might just see out the day with a sprinkling of a shower. Wish we could have more days like this but the mild moist south westerlies will prevail again next week.
