Just got the Hatfield and the intensity has definitely picked up - there’s a light dusting on cars and grass now.

Gusts have definitely picked up in the last half an hour here in Herts. The garden fence is already looking like it’s struggling...

Not seeing anything to suggest any changes. The worst of the winds across southern Britain will likely be later this afternoon with a squall line expected to move through. Expecting sporadic 70-75mph gusts inland between 15:00 and 18:00.
This is the latest from Nick L in the storm thread having looked at the latest data from the UKV. No suggestion of a change in the track of the storm.

Given that the amber warning only kicked in at 8am and that the strongest winds aren’t forecasted until early afternoon, I think we can safely say that we’re in for a wild day.

Nope, the rail network is covered by the company I work for. We're going for higher winds than the Met. I've been on conference calls for most of the day to various parts of the network!
Ah great, thanks for the update! The more you know eh!

Most of the train companies in the South East and London area have started warning of speed restrictions and disruption on Sunday. You get the feeling they’ve been briefed by the MetO to expect higher winds over a wider area than just the amber warming currently suggests.

I'm very surprised that the amber warning isn't larger. The touted wind speeds here are the on par with 14th February 2014.
I think if the models are still showing a similar picture tomorrow morning we will see it expanded.

Just passed through Doncaster on the train and it looked like a serious situation in areas around the Don.
Stay safe everyone.

According to the BBC website (I know) it should be gusting to 45 mph in my location already which really is not the case and by the early evening much calmer, I'm not sure if this is correct?
Worst of the gusts will probably hit further east late morning/early afternoon.

Certainly feels more humid now than it did when I first left the house this morning.
I’m actually looking forward to a day or two of on/off rain this weekend after the heat.

Sending virtual pets to your cat! I hope it will do ok!
Hopefully he’ll be alright, I think he’s looking forward to having somewhere cool in the house to relax come Friday!

Haven’t really enjoyed the hot weather this week, particularly with how much it’s limited my outdoor activity and the effect it’s had on my sleeping. It’s also had an impact on my cat, who has struggled with the temps and will continue to do so tomorrow.
However, I am on the flip side fascinated to see how tomorrow turns out and what 37c/38c feels like. Luckily I have good air con at work and they’re allowing us to wear relaxed clothes, but I have a lot of sympathy for those who do not have such luxuries.
Once tomorrow’s ‘peak’ temperature is out the way I’ll be looking forward to both the risk of storms and the fresher weather in the days that follow. One day of high 30’s is enough for me.

Not just Ocado. A friend works for a supermarket and the number of items ordered online over the weekend is double that of the same time last year.
They have also had several people going into store asking for cases of hand sanitizers and hand wipes - of which they’ve already sold out of anyway.
