  1. I think mid to high level as it is clearly overlying the showers (tC would say as opposed to Cb) so not so sure. I agree though, they are a bit lumpy but are clearly by their orientation linked to the low rather than the N Sea streamers. Altocumulus perhaps? We have had low level stratocumulus clouds all day here with no sun so structure of sky (other than bits of scud) impossible to discern. Hope you're right about the streamers: my daughter has sledge fever!
  2. We have these too, however, the next street over still has some (six) of the orange sodium lights and, during the very heavy snow with the big flakes last night, I could see that effect from 100m or so away. Brought back fond memories.... Might need to move streets!
  3. Been a bit 'close but no cigar' today. I thought we were good to go last night when the snow lay but then the temperature rose, the rain came back and it all melted.... Today has just been snowy spits in the wind in the main, with a few heavier bits with some graupel lying on the floor for 20 mins, then it all melts away again. No sledging on Westwood today!
  4. Looks like high level (cirrus?) cloud from the depression to the SE is inhibiting showers for our region at the moment. Hopefully this will pull away E or SE over the next few hours. You can see the streamers underneath, such as the small one coming in near Flamborough.
  5. Temperature has been rising during the last hour and now up to 1.6° with a DP of 1.0°C. All snow and graupel here this morning but nothing sticking, mostly just blowing around in the wind, which is gusty, really. I thought it would be a lot colder by now.
  6. Temp now 1.6°C and rising. Ha, you couldn't make it up, says he as the rain falls. Next heavy (snowy?) burst should be here in an hour or so. Gonna watch some telly in the meantime....
  7. Sleet here again and the white road has gone. More heavy stuff on the way though which should cause some snow through evaporative cooling and, hopefully, this time it will hold as the night progresses and the colder uppers come in.
  8. Heavy snow now and settling - the temp has dropped to 0.8°C and the DP is 0.5°C. It has dropped like a stone while I was having my tea. I'll check on exactly how much the drop was and the timing in a few but very rapid.
  9. Still rain here in Bev, but the temp has plummeted with those showers, now down to 1.8°C with a DP of 1.6°C. Looking good for later, really good. STET: a few flakes appearing now :-)
  10. No, they really aren't are they? I realised this a couple of years ago and it was only when watching I realised they had changed the bulbs.....
  11. OK, it may be nothing but the humidity has dropped to 98%: this is the lowest for a couple of days. The temp has also gone down to 3.3°C so very small steps but maybe the first tiny hints of the air mass change. DP now 3.3°C. I'm getting excited over changes of 1% - I really do need to get a life.....
  12. Not much :-) The bottom of the town is at 2, asl and here it's 19m - base of Westwood. Everywhere else is between the two, but everything East of the railway is at 2m or below, as is much of Hull. Pretty low-lying compared to the west.....
  13. My mother used to use this as a weather sign. She always said that when the snow melted rapidly and all went away, there wouldn't be any more, however, if bits hung about here and there, there would be more snow. This was after the 62 winter. Anyway, treasure that little white blob and give it a socially-distanced cuddle. It has done its job and soon will be joined by lots of new friends. :-)
  14. Not been the greatest year planes-wise either...... Still, there's always the weather and it's nothing if not interesting at the moment! The model watching has been phenomenal this week as has the associated emotional breakdowns. The Lincs Wolds have gone green on the radar during the last hour as well so everything going the right way, just veeeeery slooooowly.
  15. Yep, we deffo need those DPs to drop to encourage convection off the sea and get stuff falling turning to snow. It will happen, it's just a matter of when.....
  16. That it is but I am sure the N Sea will finally pay us its dues this winter: it's overdue! A nice A380 over the tC in your avatar :-)
  17. 3.7°C here now, still with 99% humidity - grrrr.... Some patches of green have been appearing over Hull and N Lincs on the NW Radar in the last hour or so in association with the heavier bursts of precipitation. Nothing sleety here yet today.
  18. Still dropping temp steadily and is now 3.9°C but the humidity is still 99% so no dramatic change here: this is what we should be looking at along the coast for the change and then the snow should follow soon afterwards as the temperature drops. Not too wet here and has been 'spits in the wind' for an hour or two and only 5.0mm here so far, although everything is saturated. The clay soil in my garden has water sitting on the surface, which does not bode well for any rainfall, especially as we are in a pump-drained catchment here. People focussing on river flooding in the Hull Valley should really focus on surface water flooding: the lessons of June 25th 2007 have still not been fully learned.
  19. Temp falling (along with the rain) here from 06:00 this morning when it was 5.7°C to 4.2°C now. No point in reporting the Dew as it's been at 100% and 99% sine midnight Thursday. I am looking for this to drop first, then the temperature, as the air mass changes. Been a poor winter for snow here but it's looking good for this week. The kids can't wait.....been a few years since they have been sledging! However, everyone from here and Hull descends on Westwood in such situations so likely a spike in Covid cases to follow....
  20. Actually it has turned to wet snow now! the temp has now dropped to 1.5°C with a DP of 1.1°C. Not sticking obviously
  21. Weirdly, the temp and DP have both dropped by 0.2°C in the last 20 minutes or so. No idea why but the sleet has become a bit snowier in response. These events are so marginal here this year, it is amazing.
