  1. Much the same here. Several C-C strikes, horizontal rain and hail for around 4 minutes, then moderate rain for another 3 or so minutes.
  2. It would give us here a period in which to dry-out slightly, but I'll admit to not being much of a fan of the idea of a Bartlett High getting too well-established heading towards winter...
  3. Evening John. Do you think the pattern change to ridging near or over the UK is indicated in the models to be a long-lasting feature as has been the case on several occasions over the past 2-3 years, especially here in the east?
  4. Corrected - I hadn't seen the previous part of the thread at that point.
  5. I'm disabled, so I know what you mean. I was thinking about getting into the garden or just outside on a sunny day rather than staying indoors if possible rather than going anywhere in particular. If you're having trouble walking, would it be useful to get a mobility aid?
  6. I don't suppose you can recall the details of that paper so thay I can read the abstract, please? It appears from your description to contradict existing knowledge in this area. I have Brittle Bone Disease and found out a few years back that my bone density was very low, partly as a consequence of low D3, and I'm as Caucasian as anyone else. As with all genetic matters, there is considerable variability within populations
  7. Indeed - it would be much more interesting were it not for the drama.
  8. If it never snows where you are, then I can understand that you might find winter rather underwhelming. For me, the worst weather type is those nothing grey, dry, mild-ish drab days with nothing of interest happening. By contrast, a wet, breezy day like today is invigorating, especially if you dress appropriately (why do people go out in summer clothes and then moan that they're cold and wet?) and get out in it. That being said, lack of sun is a problem for many - my advice is to take vitamin D3 supplements (500-1000IU) and try to make the most of the cold, clear, sunny days. Consider, though, what it's liketo feel unwell every time the temperature goes over 30C and the relative humidity gets above 60%.
  9. In the absence of a thread for TV forecasts, might I ask what others thoght of the Countryfile forecast that has just finished? It seemed to me a case of vague wittering with no real detail. She could have just done this:
  10. Wet on Sunday would seem to be the view supported by all ensemble members in addition to the control and operational runs.
  11. Very heavy rain and plenty of C-C strikes. At one point, the rain was rebounding several inches from our concrete garden path/ramp from the French doors.
  12. Feels rather like August and earlier this month here - rain kept weakening as it moved-in from the west.
  13. First hefty shower cleared earlier, and radar shows more to come. Our clay soil is absorbing the rain and the vegetation generally appear to be coming back to something approaching verdant green after a few weeks of increasing wilting.
  14. We've had one heavy shower here so far while I was out, and there's a line of storms heading this way as I type (we've heard the thunder associated with them already). UEA weather station reporting 5.5mm since midbnight but I suspect that will be increasing over the next 30 minutes or so.
  15. UEA station on Wunderground reporting 2.3mm, but radar accumulation suggests more like 5mm.
  16. It's all to your east! Actually, what we're due to have in the next few minutes has increased in intensity on radar since it passed through your area.
  17. Feels as though something in the atmospheric profile (possibly residual higher pressure) has changed of recent, given the frequency with which active fronts have weakened rapidly as they approach the region.
