  1. Yeah, I was lost myself at first, but if you just keep following the Model Thread, it helps, believe me. Many people post a chart on there and say why they post it (for example, it shows a cold forecast), and after a while, you can see what a cold chart looks like for the UK.
  2. Nobody has said there is not going to be a White Christmas :S Nobody has said there is going to be one either. There is no point taking any real notice of these forecasts until the start of December at the very earliest, especially when they all contradict each other.
  3. I think it was slight sarcasm, he believes that we are not in a cooling phase. (Before I get slated, I am not saying that this is right or wrong!)
  4. When was the last record warm event? Here is another cold one for you: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/world/news/02112008news.shtml
  5. The figure of 44% is almost certainly just plucked out of the air
  6. January: 105.7mm February: 24.1mm March: 78.0mm April: 57.7mm May: 49.5mm June: 23.9mm July: 54.6mm August: 91.9mm September: 89.2mm October: 70.1mm November (so far): 9.9mm 2008 (so far): 654.6mm Record year: 2007, 836.4mm
  7. Agreed. The BBC one used to be as good as the Met Office version, but the new graphics saw it become more cartoon-like and very generalised. Bring back ye olde weather symbols!
  8. And - as expected - the Met Office are sticking to their guns. If you want to re-read the forecast, here it is: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/seasonal/winter2008_9/
  9. I think the only change to the forecast will be "We still think that...". To be honest, it probably will be a mild winter as usual.
  10. Heavy snow, settling on the grass and cars, 0.6c and falling very rapidly. Well done on not predicting this BBC! A nice surprise.
  11. Says it all when one forecast says it will be very cold and another says it will be mild and wet - at this stage it is purely a guessing game!
  12. How far below average would the remaining 2 and a bit months need to be to get an Annual CET lower than that of 2001? Is it realistically possible?
  13. It's almost as if some on here are disappointed with the fact that the red line is rising rapidly. The ice increase has to start somewhere if we want a recovery surely? It won't happen overnight.
  14. Well seeing all of the xmas forecasts being all over the place, this is what I think will happen: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zPIn-jdo24Q
  15. http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/seaice/extent/plot.csv I think that is the link (same figures anyway), it is an excel file, scroll down to the bottom for the latest data.
  16. Cheers for that snowspotter, been wanting that link for a while.
  17. That surely has to be an error! It is recovering incredibly fast! Let's hope it can continue.
  18. Seems like a very promising rise
  19. The absolute limit at this stage is "We have a signal of having a cold/mild, wet/dry Christmas", seeing websites write things like "The charts show rain over much of the country during Christmas day to perhaps bring around 15mm by the end of the day" is sticking your neck out to the extreme. You can't predict rainfall totals accurately 3 days in advance, let alone 3 months!
  20. How can anybody make a detailed forecast 3 months in advance? I will not pay any attention to the forecasts until December...unless they predict a white xmas of course ;-)
  21. Well today's countryfile forecast saw the first showing of the white stuff in northern Scotland! Autumn has indeed arrived =]
  22. I think it's quite good, although it will be the true end of the old fashioned weather symbols on the 5 day forecasts. The regional maps go down to the counties instead of regions as well. The old site had become quite dated and I like this new version.
  23. Ah why does it have to be a Thursday! The one day I cannot get access to a computer during the day. What do I do instead? I have to do A Level maths and further maths from 9 til 4 *shudders*. Ah well. I reckon it will be roughly the same as last year - "Mild, but not as mild as the previous". That way they have covered their backs!
  24. Is it me or do the BBC seem disappointed by the fact it isn't a record low?!
