  1. Well its still snowing moderatly, temp is a solid 0.1 c and can no longer see where the roads and paths are and theres that many drifts up to my knees that I can't decided whether to walk to work in it or not bother tonight, dont fancy a 45 min walk down to work then another 45min walk home, what do ya think ? :D .

  2. woke up to find a very good covering - about 4-5cm depth here - that was enoguh to cause chaos last time and wondering how much more we'll get today?

Yep pretty much the same up here in oldham roughly the same depths lying with drifts easily over 10 cm, alot of roads closed, ive even see 1 abandoned and 1 that had just had a minor crash and the main roads are not too clever either but thats to be expect when the wind blows fresh snow over the roads that have already been gritted. The councils have defonatly got there work cut out this week to keep even the main roads open lol.

Defonatly starting to feel more like the snowy weather of the nineties and even better if it does carry on for the next few days :(

  3. Well I have to say This morning feels like one of the coldest so far this winter. Its cloudy and foggy with a pretty hard frost here. This wind chill is absolutly biting more than it has as of late, so much so I took the dog out and had to dart back in quickly to put extra layers on and my hands were numb within a few minutes of going out which I find quite strange considering yesterday mornings NW forcast on the home page. Yes its gusty out there but very very cold and theres no sign of any rain or dampness yet here in my part of the northwest, just a biting wind fog and heavy frost.

  4. looking at the gfs charts and the way they keep choping and changing day by day i would say the xmas forecast is still far from certain and prob wont be certain until sun/mon.

Oh I know, Im not saying it is impossible to get snow on christmas day but Id still say the chances are closer to 0% rather than 15%

  5. no of course not

but then nothing wrong with being allowed to express an opinion is there?..plus its 8 pm in canada :D

Canada ahhhh that says it all ... its not like you would have any reason to lampost watch there with all the white stuff you guys get year in year out lol. But still your on a weather forum.. saddo! .. only joking mate.

  6. dito..plus reading some of the stuff people do..i think alot are just sad full stop B)

ive got way more important things going on in my life to stay up all night to see a flake of snow float past a lampost.

What like posting on a weather forum at all times of day and night ? Your just as SAD as the rest of us on here then lol . nothing wrong with persuing a hobby and discussing it is there ?

  7. Cold or Mild ? Id have to say a mixture of both as it usually is .. some colder days, some milder days.

My general opinion is purely based on Oceanic Nino Index data and is that we are going to have yet another winter typical of most years from the late 90's - present. That being little in way of snow and very random short lived events in November December and January with January being the coldest month and no doubt some areas may see the odd decent covering of snow like last year, not to mention some frosty nights, But nothing out of the ordinary really.

Best chance of a really snowy winter would come either from having a prolonged neutral enso staying neurtal (between La Nina & El Nino) through out the remainder of this year and into next year or weak - moderate la nina during the winter months which I cant see the latter happening as were already into neutral now.. so it depends how things progress.

Dont forget this is just my own simple & un-scientific opinion and nothing more :)

  8. yeah can see the north kent coast on a good day, yeah i little bit of hight will be a help this weekend only about 50ft asl here ,lol, looking forward to some big showers coming of the north sea

Well I really hope you guys do finally get some snow down there, But ill still be expecting pics of the proof so I can eat my own words that I posted in the model thread lol

  9. there is some doubt about that - can't find the original source but it is summarised here

so it sounds like we just need to bulldoze the rockies and we'll have winter weather in abundance... :-)

    HI Trev

That article is rubbish lol The gulf stream is infact the main contributor to our regions temperatures .. when it mentions the release of warm air from the ocean, its the Gulf Stream that releases the warmer air into the atmosphere (in our region) at a certain point in the seas to north of the uk. Thats why the melting of the glaciers and ice sheets to the north in greenland etc could have major impacts on our so called warmer climate.

The Gulf stream or should i say the Atlantic Thermohaline Circulation as the profenssionals call it, is Very Salty Warm under water current, so if these Glaciers and Icesheets continue to melt , this would deposit vast amounts of " Fresh Water " (non salty) into the atlantic which would then desalinise the Gulf Stream, weakening it to the extent its less able to circulate and possibly stop it all together for a period of time. This in turn would "cut off the hot water tap" so to speak and we'd then end up with a very similar weather system and temps akin to Northern Canada.. Not exactly how "The Day After Tomorrow depicts" it I might add lol (luv this movie though!! )

To cut a longer story short, instead of demolishing those rockies our best bet would be for all of us to travel far north and p**s on those ice caps and speed up the rate of melting

  10. One day in the future, the headlines will be 'Britain has its coldest winter in 50 years' :) and not other parts of the world. Maybe :) 8P or maybe not.

Yes John, may just happen within the next 10 yrs if the Atlantic Thermohaline Circulation Shuts down :D , Not saying it will mind but you never know with the continual melting of Ice Sheets and Glaciers :)

  11. Up here in oldham were used to seeing lying snow more or less every christmas wether it snows just before christmas or just after, obviously with a few inches of lying snow during christmas day with last year being the exception... If i remember rightly the snow had already melted away by christmas day so it didnt really "feel like xmas" at all.

but i still have a feeling we'll do better up here [oldham] this year.

Same goes for november we usually see the odd couple of days worth of snow each year and im still waiting atm so fingers crossed for the rest of the month and xmas time :cold:
