honestly. do a screen cap of two hours ago and now on NW radar, and tell me anywhere west of Cardiff is a bust. I'd post them if i didn't think I'd get a row for doing so. lol

points west of swansea are about to be hammered, as are points east. if anything me here in Maesteg might miss out slightly in comparison, smack in the middle of those two blobs, but i am very happy so far with what is falling, and will fall. i think the hills around here will play a role too and pep up things.chill out everyone, this is an epic event.

This is becoming a generational event in Tenby.

  2. Just possible that we're beginning to see the front fracture somewhat over Devon, as progged, with the western section going to take a more direct path to Ireland, probably clipping W Wales and the eastern section continuing to head more due N toward SE Wales... might not be reading the radar right... but something to watch.

so much for Ireland getting it all. looking at NW radar, Wales is the bullseye

I think E coast of Ireland will get it, just it seems to be taking a direct route across SW UK rather than skirting round us, as many of the precipitation forecasts have showed during the last couple of days.

well i have been reading the south west and southern england thread for hours and nobody are really having any proper heavy big flake snow just this crappy snizzle like us will anybody have the proper heavy snow that was forecast prompting the red warning.this snozzle stuff is just boring and annoying :(

    Speak for yourself, mate.

We're into our 4th hour of it in Tenby: grass nearly covered; patio bare apart from a 9" drift around the edge! Wild conditions, the like of which I've never seen here before.

The good news for you could be that as the low and fronts get nearer, the upper atmosphere temps will rise and (I suggest) this will make the snow less powdery, more 'normal' and more to your liking!!

People panicking before it's even really started.

The met office have issued a red warning from 3pm-2am because it will affect the area they've highlighted between that time- not all of that time. 2 hours down, 9 to go.

For the record, it's snowing heavily, and horizontally with me. Similar location to Jay, so maybe it's the fact we're that much closer to the coast and more exposed. People living in the valleys (north to south flowing) will naturally be more sheltered from an easterly wind. Chill people. And those saying red warnings will be taken down, I beg you to come and stand outside my front door for five minutes and tell me it's not severe!

Tenby also in the heavy, horizontal snow club, atm.

Exceptional conditions for here; I've never seen anything like it in this location.

Lake effect snow from the Bristol channel mate.

Yep- I think it's picking energy/moisture up from Carmarthen Bay here.

US National Weather Service definition is

    - wind in excess of 35mph

    - visibility below 1/4 of a mile

    - Large amounts of snow or blowing snow

    - Lasts in excess of 3 hours.

    Thanks!

Not quite there yet, but certainly heading in the right direction.

Can't deny I'm disappointed that we are not going to a blizzard here on the Pembs/Carms border after all but I am excited for all you lucky people in the south east - it does look like Andy's apocalyptic warnings were justified, and it has to be said, several days ahead of the Met Office!  Well done Andy!   Let us know when you've dug yourself out!!  It is quite amazing - and a little annoying - how the geography round here prevents snow reaching us from the east, but guarantees we get soaked with rain when the weather comes from any other direction!!!

Think I might move to Cardiff. :)

I wouldn’t write it off just yet.

Still think the west will get several hours of heavy snowfall later today!

That is a seriously weird aberration - looks like a massive heat source is keeping Carmarthenshire warmer than everywhere else!   I know I turned my heating up but it wouldn't have made THAT much difference!   If that doesn't change it could turn our snow to rain far too early, or leave us dry.   :cray::cray:

only made it down to -5.9C here last night - others places much colder - but tonight will be colder still.

Wild birds are hit hard by this weather - if you have the means to do it don't forget to put out some food for them.

It won't be a static feature on the day; there's been an area of much higher 850s progged to move through for a couple of days now. I think that's the sector where freezing rain/ice ice is forecast (MetO have mentioned it a couple of times) as rain falls into the still below freezing lower atmosphere. Something else to look out for...

  9. Another solid run from GFS 18z re. Thurs/Fri... suggests 24hrs snowfall for SW Wales (it won’t be, but it gives a general idea)... the sleet/rain line appears to be progged progressively further to the S on recent runs suggesting less marginal conditions along the S coast... a starting as snow and staying as snow event likely now?

The Preselis are going to get an absolute battering.

Didn't you get some 'flakes' in Tenby today Ben?

I'm waiting for tomorrows run to confirm how much and when, but I'm almost certain we WILL get snow on Thursday, The upper air is cold, the ground is cold, it will be snowing at sea before it reaches land :D

Hi Jen- I'm in Pembroke by day, where we had about an hour-and-a-half of steadyish, light snow: lovely, and the second time this year!

Deffo be something Thurs/Fri... just how much? I'm hoping for a classic!
