Agreed, The last time I saw the tide reach the back of Freshwater West beach was Dec15. The winds were about the same as forecast tomorrow but nowhere near as much surge. I am interested to see how much surge Ex-Ophelia has been pushing in front of her. No one is talking about it ?

It's wild at Fresh at the best of times, so take care!!

Good question... also will the low pressure equal a sea-level 'bulge'?

Whilst I love a good storm, I hope there's no injuries.

Much of England could go 'yellow' a very large wind field as soon to be ex hurricane Ophelia barrels northeast...30-50 mph gusts may not seem like much but with trees in foliage...

Nowcasting from this point forward. I guess there's more unknowns on this occasion due to the unusual nature of this storm.

Tbh... headline wind strength, atm, is not actually that unusual for round here (maybe once in a three or four years event?) but the on-shore wind combined with the forecast huge swell (SWerly direction) and hightide is a worry.

A further shift Ewards would exacerbate any issues.

Literally the calm before the storm here: a balmy 15/16c and hardly a breath of wind...

    Card or cash.

Wiseman's Bridge is perfectly accessible by vehicle. The car park is about a meter ASL though.

Personally, I'd be concerned about it being a bit risky though. You're braver than I if you go there.

That road gets covered in storm debris/ rocks from the beach/sea in a 'usual' storm!

Not sure if the fact it's a pretty small tide will make a difference in this case...

So.. it looks like I'm probably going to head down to Wales tonight. Wisemans Bridge and Manorbier Beach are the two areas of interest I've picked out. Manorbier Beach is winning at the moment, it's more exposed but there's also higher ground to stand on and watch the waves come in, plus looks slightly more vehicle accessible.

How do you pay for the Severn Toll Bridge? Do they take card? Cash? Or do you pay online later like you do with the Dartford bridge? Thanks!

Might see you there! They take a card on the bridge these days.

Where would be the best place on the Welsh Coast to see this? I'm so tempted to drive across the country late Sunday night

Any SW facing beach in Pembs is going to have exceptionally large swell Monday into Tuesday, probably peaking after dark on Monday evening. Freshwater West being the most exposed of these; Newgale probably 2nd best (road may be closed along seafront). Having said that, large autumn surf isn't unusual in these places, so impact may be less spectacular.

If you're looking for impact, maybe Wiseman's Bridge to Amroth/Pendine might be a good place. I've seen the road E of Amroth literally washed away after the 2014(?) storm/s.

    High-tide is late afternoon.

I’m in New Quay, which is spectacular when it’s a NW wind on the harbour wall, sw wind won’t produce big waves there, but I’m staying up the hill (800 ft asl) so should get some decent readings on my kestrel.

Enjoy! Further north from there, Llansantffraed/ Llanrhystud, should be being impacted by the swell more than New Quay so maybe worth checking out.

So at least I may see some action on my travels Monday in West Wales *weather related action I must add

Trust me, weather action is the only action you'll be seeing round here!

Deffo try to get to the coast, especially during the afternoon (high tide late afternoon)., I'm sure it'll be quite spectacular...

Wind's going to be southerly, so I'd expect quite a bit of over-topping Wiseman's Bridge to Pendine, if the forecast holds true.

(Obviously the swell will be bigger on the west facing beaches but the impact may be less).

LOL, what a nice surprise, first falling snow I've seen here for years, didn't settle of course. Bearing in mind I think the last settling snow we had here was in 2010 so I don't expect an awful lot, anything is a bonus.

Ha- what a laugh- glad someone else is able to back me up!! Cheers pal.
