Still hammering down with snow.
How do i post pictures on my phone on here?
The only way is to either transfer them to PC and attach from there. Or, post them to facebook and use the image URL method pasting it onto the forum so we can look at them. I could then edit the post and use the picture embed button for you.

If we get an extended period of heavy snow here in Bangor (rather than the light - moderate - semi-heavy stuff) then I could see it laying and sticking. Surface temps now cold enough to see that flakes are laying for longer and if this freezes over. Could be epic.

Well, it started wet snowing about 11pm last night, it's still going now and with the small break in precipitation that's 11/12 hours of constant wet snow.
No accumulations apart from slush and melting as it goes, but my goodness, if it had all lay we'd have some serious accumulations.
I'd say about 5-8 inches so far if it had lay.

Well, now it's time for me to go and lay down and turn out the lights. Watch some tv whilst facing the window at lamppost angle.
If it gets heavy or begins to lie, I'll be back.

Wet snow here in Bangor, blowing in the wind. Unexpected to say the least.
I just popped out for a bit and have sobered up a good bit. 3 pints of cider is all I had. I'm a lightweight.
The naked sledging is still on by the way.

Precipitation taking its time down in Ireland, very sluggish. Could be 3/4am before it is here.

VERY Good question ginger.
Presumably, as some areas in the North and East are still retaining snow cover from a few days ago I'd say the answer is yes to those inland (near the existing cover), and for those nearer the coast it will be hard to call. Quick thaw maybe, but if it freezes overnight Friday/Saturday, could last longer.

There seems to be 3 balloons attached to the power lines directly outside my window. One says 2 on it, the others just coloured.
Wonder if it is a sign.
2nd biggest snow event of my lifetime.
2 inches of snow with 3 days lying or vice versa.

You might be ok Watcher as your on the North Down coast. With the winds from thr South East there will be less modification of lower levels.
True, I thought they were Easterlies but I haven't actually bothered looking at wind vectors lately. If it is SE winds then I have some shelter from coast. Still, I set my hopes low so it's more of a surprise.

Doesn't look good for me near the coast, but I'll be happy seeing some heavy wet snow and big flakes. If I'm lucky, maybe a temporary covering.

Why have coastal areas suffered with such a lack of snow this year compared to previous years? Any half decent event this winter has resulted in heavy rain / sleet or if very lucky wet snow. For whatever reason this year has just been too marginal. Can't get may head around it. I'm right on Down east coast and expecting nothing different this time.

Pretty easily explained.
Most if not all this winter/years colder spells have been from an Easterly source meaning winds coming in off the sea for us coasties making surface temperatures that little bit warmer than Inland. Most of the spells have had an initial thrust aswell, meaning lying snow for a period with a thaw setting in quicker than a more prolonged and strong flow like Dec 2010.

Low would mean from sea level to 100m I would say.
Some crazy Accumulative totals for snowfall being projected at the moment.
GFS 0Z has 60-80cm on Mournes and 10-40cm widely around Northern Ireland.
Latest NAE shows snow right to coasts too.

Being conservative I would assume, Ireland is a very hard place to forecast for snow in occasions such as this.
My top places for low lying snowfall would be:
Inland Antrim
North Armagh
East Derry
Inland Down.
Eastern Tyrone
By inland I mean 5-10 miles inland from coast.
Higher ground (above 150-200m) would get pasted.

Electric out for 10 minutes here, street lights keep going off and on.
Thank god it came back on, no candles and needed the loo for a number 2.
